Cool tune, I found out about these guys through reading 'Traveling Music' by Rush's Neil Peart. He talked about this band in his book. I'm a drummer of 35 years (hobby really) Huge fan of Rush and Neil's taste in music is pretty good too.
I knew this guy that believed this song depicted the way he was toward his girlfriend. How he is everything to her and how she needs no other. I pointed out to him at the end of the song its about being the perfect man also being there for us by how we dont want him. There is no one perfect except...Him...

God is crying out to all the believers and unbelievers because nobody really realizes that hes EVERYTHING we want and need but we still put him down and push him off to the side as if hes absolutely nothing.

i remember hearing this song when i was 6, im now 18 and this may be about the friend zone, but for me its a good reminder of how fast 12 years has gone. Its true the friend zone may suck, but its not the end of the world.

Lol this song to me sounds like he's talking about God. I mean, you can disagree, it just sounds very logical to me. I think this song is an awesome, spiritual metaphor in my opinion and the satirical point of view he uses in the song is great song writing, especially when he switches to "I" from "He."

That's why you always here about guys being afraid of rejection and these PUA sites that are in mass resurgence and have a pretty much exclusive male membership. In a broader look.. the lyrics in the song talk about 2 guys and a girl. The girl keeps going after the wrong guys, mainly one certain guy, guy #1(hence going after mr. perfect or an idiot). Then guy #2 is chasing after the girl, but the girl is so caught up in guy #1 she doesn't realize guy #2. Guy #2 has everything inside of him(his heart, soul etc.) that the girl needs and wants, but in the end.. everything you want is not everything you need.
Absolutely true stuff. The deep kind of music(like this song) is the deep kind that hits hard. My boyfriend has many flaws and we fight all the time. Why I'm with him? I don't know why. I'm praying I get the strength to leave him soon. It'd be easier if he wasn't always emotionally abusing me, but I think I'll do fine without him.

There was this girl on this cruise that I really liked, but she was always hung out with this other guy way more than me, no matter what I did, and that guy didn't even have to try. I thought of this song immediately about my relationship with my bf. He is a great guy but I care about him more as a friend but he loves me to death.I got into the relationship bc I was comfortable with him and I stayed because I knew how much he cared about me. But if the feeling isn't there it just isn't. I know guys think if this girl just gives me a chance I'll make her love me but that's not how it works. All you'll do is get hurt. @IanDrewAPicture Actually I did try to tell him this less than 3 months into the relationship but he convinced me that I was just emotionally scarred from a recent relationship I had gotten out of and I should stop looking for excuses bc I really did care for him (his words; not mine). I had gone through a tough time so I thought maybe I really didn't know my feelings and listened to him. But it's not a feeling I can ignore anymore.

@je143462 you owe it to him to tell him the truth. if you feel anything for him at all, even just as a friend, then you need to tell him. be gentle and considerate of his feelings, but be honest and firm about it. i've been in this situation a couple of times, and when i told them how i felt honestly, we broke up but still managed to keep a friendship. my ex husband and i were like that, and he remains one of my best friends to this day.

To all the guys complaining about the whole Friend Zone thing, yes it is a pain, but you cannot help who you are attracted to. If a guy isn't attracted to a girl despite the fact that she is a wonderful girl no one thinks twice but if a girl has a friend that she is truly just not attracted to but values as a friend and he has feelings for her than shes a bitch. We have openly discussed our lack of feeling for each other and have said multiple times that we wished we were siblings. In a broader look.. the lyrics in the song talk about 2 guys and a girl. The girl keeps going after the wrong guys, mainly one certain guy, guy #1(hence going after mr. perfect or an idiot). Then guy #2 is chasing after the girl, but the girl is so caught up in guy #1 she doesn't realize guy #2. Guy #2 has everything inside of him(his heart, soul etc.) that the girl needs and wants, but in the end.. everything you want is not everything you need.
