  • AMERICA!!!

  • Britain gave their Black Night rocket system to Europe and it was renamed Areane. Typically Britain then left the consortium. We put a satellite in orbit first with Areane/Black Night, it was called Prospero.

  • @BuildYourMind Black Arrow was the launch vehicle for prospero. Blue streak was the first stage of the europa rocket which was the precursor to the ariane series. Also we were not first...

  • @nadoom I meant before Europe who didnt have a space program. Accrosing to a book and a documentary BBC I have, the Black night motor was used in the first ESA rocket then we withdrew leaving the tech in place.

  • LOOK! WHAT IS THAT?? I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A " JOHNSON"! AHA

  • nasa is years ahead of the esa...

  • @TheDustyRavage

Why? Europe lacks a manned access to space, but aside from that, they are right on the money. They have one of the most capable and modern launchers in the world today, have built 5 of the pressurized modules currently docked to the ISS, have a fully automated ISS resupply ship and flew probes to the Moon, Mars, Venus and the first ever spacecrafts to land on a moon of another planet (Huygens) and a comet (Rosetta).

  • EUROPE RULES , just thought i should say that :-), oh and so does ESA.

  • @kirza94 Rules what?

  • @naplesjake eh, if u didnt get it im not explaining it

  • @kirza94 eh, more like you can't! eh...

  • @naplesjake i can its just its in the title Europe rules , as in europe is the best .

  • If Freud could see a rocket launch, he would probably think about "fallic" meanings in these scenes. Actually, Rockets seems "big dicks"!

  • I just love the design of this rocket, it looks far more appealing than the look of the Space Shuttle (er.. the rocket it's lanched on) or other rocket designs by NASA, imo.

  • how much hp ?

  • over 9000, that fur sure. lol

  • gammler: EADS ASTRIUM is not German, but European, with research-development-testing facilities in France, England, Germany, Spain and Holland. But France initiated the whole project and remains its most important partner. The President of EADS ASTRIUM launching system is a Frenchman. You can check on Wikipedia.

  • brutal power.

  • Whoever developed the rocket, she is a fine launch vehicle and it will be more than what NASA will have come 2011.

  • NASA? Actually Atlas V and Delta IV Heavy can both lift more payload that Ariane V. That being said, those huge solid rockets will make Ariane the most visually stunning launcher in the world once the shuttle retires.

  • Only the Delta 4 Heavy lifts more. The Atlas V and Delta 4 Medium(+) have lower lift capacity. Atlas V Heavy is a paper rocket at this point and, in my opinion, will not be built in the near future. There is just no need for 2 heavy launchers.

  • @JuliusScenester ,Nasa have No clients to launch satellites wherease Arianespace have, Yes, all national administrations, but I really think that if they can choose theire launcher, It will be our : Theire GPS satellites Won't explose during liftoff, or will be in a good orbit and not reentering 1/2 hour before the launch !! Ariane 5 have a really great success, I really hope, europe, will give money to build an ariane 6 more heavy and more stable to erase all others satellites launchers

  • ARIANE 5 was 80% developed by CNES (french space agency !!!)

ESA = 23% french ok, but ariane 5 is 80% french development ... sorry

  • Ariane is an european rocket, i'm french; Long live European Union !!!

  • @EUofficial ESA isn't a part of the European Union. At least not yet.

  • @EUofficial

    :P

  • @95predator

    2)

    It's Not enough?

Ok!! but there are "vega": Another European rocket to complete the European rocket collection !!

(Italian Space Agency and the European Space Agency) ! it will be better for our great country!!

Sorry european comrade if you are not happy or furious ...

  • the main developer were Astrium u fool!

    the engines main systems...all astrium!

now google wat astrium is and calm down baguette!

  • nationalist idiots...

  • The rocket is not French, it is European. The boosters are built in Italy, the recovery system for the boosters is built in The Netherlands. The booster nozzles come from Belgium, the fairings are built in Spain. The Turbopumps for the Vulcain2 main engines are built by Volvo in Sweden. The upper stage is built in Germany.

It IS truly an European rocket!

  • LOL Ariane is a French rocket.

Ariane is mainly developped by the French CNES, is built in France (near Paris), is commercialized by Arianespace (French company), is launched from France, and is controlled from France (from Toulouse).

    So please stop dreaming.

Ariane=French rocket with cooperation of other european countries.

  • marius is right ... sorry all

  • The fairings are built in Switzerland, not spain.

Yes it is France who has supported quite alot of the project but contractors of arianespace all over Europe build alot of the sub-systems also. Great collaboration

  • Anyone know when's the first Soyuz launch from Kourou?

  • Delayed to sometime first half of 2010

  • I've heart it will be in april 2010

  • how much carbon tax it pays? and pollution? very messy.

brits in isle of wight were far cleaner in 50,s and 60,s.

    with their rockets

  • I do not know what they burn, but from what I know, the result is only water vapor and a bit of methane.

  • The main stage burns liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The upper stage of the Ariane 5G/G+ burns Hydrazine and Nitrogen Peroxide (hypergols), but the upper stage of the new Ariane 5 ECA is also hydrogen/oxygen. The twin solid rocket boosters burn solid rocket fuel (I think aluminum as fuel and ammonium perclorate as the oxidiser)

  • I already knew that, thanks.

  • how come this rocket do not have fins

  • It is controlled by moving the nozzles

  • One of my friends is called Ariane

  • YO! BIG YO!

  • still looks like a willey shape

  • Without the ESA, France wouldn't be launching rockets ...

  • But of course, France built its own rocket, the rocket launcher is ur french territory, t France is the pys that contributes most to launch

  • ya thanks to german schematics

  • exactly, it is a finely balanced collaboration operation, with 1 link missing (namely semi-state companies), the system collapses

  • Mate, Ariane existed before the ESA. France gave ESA its rocket.

  • Highly corrupt facts there mate

  • Without ESA France would be still launching rockets, only contribute to 60% of this project, France would pay more that s all!

  • Lol France didn't wait for ESA to launch its own rockets...

Without France, Europe wouldn't have rockets at all.

  • What would be French (Russian, American) rocketry without Germans ...

  • We would all turn around and kiss the Chinese ass who invented rocketry 3500 years ago!

  • Great video. Nice and clear, too.

  • That's just awesome!

  • beautiful.

    and also the name, ariane.

    :))

  • still QUITE amused at the european rockets being called "ariane" rockets.

  • Comment removed

  • Just in case you're really interested:

Ariane is the french version of the greek goddess Ariadne, whose wedding diadem is said to be the the star constellation Corona.

  • hmm ok. makes a bit of sense. but given that most people will not know that, i still think it was a poor choice of words on that one.

  • when you tell "most people" you should tell "most american people"... Otherwise everybody knows its from greek. Greece an european country...

  • Thanks for the info. Until I read that post, I was under the assumption that Ariane was French for Orion.

  • was there anybody in it?

  • No. It was a communications satellite mission.

  • Ariane doesn't carry people. It's not man-rated. Not yet, anyway.

  • Solid rocket boosters being kicked off is the effect you see..

  • And this Solid Rocket Boosters are called EAP, Étage d'accélération à poudre and not booster or an other. Its a french rocket, so in french

  • We Dutch pay for it as well.

  • No one pays for it, Arianespace is a commercial company that makes a profit.

  • Is some parts are getting split and traveling in different direction.?

  • It looks like some parts are getting split and traveling in the different direction at the end?.

  • fantastic!!

  • wow! what a beautiful take-off!

    i love ariane 5 rockets :)
