In large part, you told my story of deconversion too. I went through it in my twenties and I'm in my fifties now. I find it almost disturbing to talk to people about what the real evidence is concerning topics like evolution and get anger as a response. Of all the emotions, anger? I'll print some evidence from a credible source and some people refuse to even read it calling it left wing propaganda. I think indoctrination to that degree is a mental illness.
A very interesting book on the origin of the monotheistic god is The Evolution of God. It traces the development of god from animism to monotheism. It is available through Amazon
On thing you said really struck me, and I remember it from my own deconversion: At some point, I said to myself "I care more about the truth than I do about Christianity or even God." It was that separation of my identity from my religion, the recognition that maybe truth lay elsewhere, that allowed me to evaluate it objectively and eventually discharge it entirely.
The difference between you and I is that I consider myself atheist in the sense I do not believe there is a God and I see no possible way to explain such a being's existence. That and that fact that despite repeated attempts to find information about any such divine I keep coming up snake eyes. The definition of insanity is doing the same and expecting different results. I've moved on. If there is a God, it needs to prove, I don't need to search.
The Irony is, the more you seek truth the more happiness you find. The lie that Jesus promised is delivered by seeing with unfettered eyes. The truth will set you free.
That's what religion does, it takes reality and tries to inject itself. But for people who are true to themselves religion holds no power over them.
Nicely done. This is why I've given up debating YECs. It's quite clear that the vocal ones here are unwilling to look at the evidence. Because, once someone does so with an open mind like you did, there really can only be one conclusion. If they're still arguing, then they haven't looked at it and won't look at it, so there's no point in debating it. I've settled for ridicule instead. Also, if real evidence for some religion did materialize some day, it wouldn't be called a faith any more. ;-)
@TheLivingDinosaur Thank you. "Also, if real evidence for some religion did materialize some day, it wouldn't be called a faith any more." Excellent point. That's something I clearly overlooked when writing this.
photographs in this video are beautiful. Whwn did you get married!!! Congradulations. I'm a newly wed. Love her but hard. Long distance relationships are very tough.
I find it interesting you went through all the phases starting with young earth, then old and now, evolutionist. I had a friend who went through that; she even went to a Christian college and realized it was bogus there. She changed to a real university and is now studying real biology. Last time i checked, she was still a theistic evolutionist which is not a creationist.
I will have you know, your voice is the first voice coming through my BOSE speakers and they are awesome. (My wife, when she isn't pissed off at me has the nicest voice but yours is almost on parr.) ;).
Nice video!!! Err, have you looked into Taoism? The philosophy rather than the faith? You might find it interesting. Totally agree with 1:42 into your vid. Christian strawmen can be annoying. I did make fun out of it in a thread tho. ;). My deconversion wasn't related to my discovery, despite sexual insecurity, that I'm straight either lol. ;).
Why does God's creation contradict his word. Easy because the words don't actually say what the YEC's believe. they do. Suffice it to say that there is sufficient evidence to say with about 80% certainty that the Gen narrative was written as an allegory. Biblical scholars have known this for about a decade, and it was suspected but unconfirmed for at least 50 years Prior to Freedmon, et al's work on the J source
This is very beautiful. Completely different from mine. My deconversion began from my church's sexism and homophobia. And my road wasn't so smooth. I just uploaded a smattering of it today. It's on my channel. Thanks for this vid.

Thanks for the new vid.
I WILL, however, remind you that we're left with a trailer for a video that still isn't there (and I've been itching to watch)
Still, very enlightening. I was actually a helping hand at a local church for a while.

Sounds like your honest sincerity is what lead you to your Atheism.

1:33 Well said. Literal Genesis quite simply does not stand up to simple investigation (by the layman). It is literally 100% indefensible.
Anyhow i bet accepting evolution was a load off your mind as all those internal conflicts with reality would no longer trouble your thinking.

Not only is there no evidence to be found for the need of the existence of any god, there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Cheers, and thanks for sharing
