  • I don't understand why most of people thinking that at the pic screen in the video two Oiran??? Oiran has another hair style!!! many kanzashi-sticks in the hair of Oiran, very complex hair style, another type of kimono!! Here I think really two simple women or maybe two Geiko, because shamisen plus Mother here at the picture. Oiran has about 12 kanzashi sticks in the hair, here I see only two!

  • Geisha are living works of art, there is confusing slang for a common bathouse prostitute "Onsen Geisha" that may lead to Western misconceptions but these are not Geisha. They are merely prostitutes who market themselves well. They have never even been Maiko's, Geisha apprentices.

  • Beautiful piece of music....

  • this was one of my favorite scenes i wonder why most of the cast was chinese though? does anyone know?

  • @ladyjosephinelover they had an audition in Japan to recruit Japanese actresses/actors. NO ONE turned up. They had no choice but to recruit Chinese casts with the exception of Ken Watanabe.

The Japanese regard the life of geisha as a very 'sacred' thing.

  • @UncleBobIsAngry oh wow really? that's interesting to know. i understand

  • lovee it *

  • This kind of has nothing to do with the video.. but im just saying that i remember being on imvu and seeing a place for oirans, in a public room, and in the description it said "oirans are like geishas, but better" Pathetic, and it kinda made me mad when reading it :(...nice video though

  • All the japanese kids are loosing their traditional culture, it is the foreigners that love the traditional japanese culture, the younger japanee love the techno and the new culture...maybe the foreigners can help preserve the old japanese culture because the new japanese don't care.

  • @subroto81 thats true now all you see is kids with those crazy hair styles and walkin around with all kinds of technology in thier hands. its almost painful to see such a great country lose its traditional culture.

  • kombawa all watashi oshima

  • how can't you love the japanese culture ... it's impossible !

  • pinkflowers

    jamon =D

  • This is quite inspiring!. ^_^.

  • a geisha is NOT the same as prostitute.

a geisha is an entertainer. They entertaine men (in the past, now they entertaine both) with song, dance, stories etc. It has happend that they use prostitute service as well, but not aften. in the beginning it was a male job.

  • i cry in every time i watch it! really amazing movie :)

  • @djokoholic me too :) i've seen this movie 12 times.

  • @animeaddict45 Wow, you toped me! I saw it about 6 or 7 times

  • @djokoholic well i own this movie and i watch it at sleepovers with my friends and stuff ^^

  • <3 <3

  • where did you get the song from? i need to know urgently :(

  • It's from the motion picture "Memoirs of A Geisha". You can find it in the soundtrack of the same name. :)

  • cool song

  • Wow! This sounds really cool! I love oriental music. Really wanted to see this movie, too.

  • Hey, if you haven't seen Memoirs, you really REALLY should, LOL! I absolutely love the movie, and it is just one of my many all-time favorites. It is well worth the watch, trust me.

  • Kool. I thinking about it.!

  • these two japanese women in the picture are not geisha - they are oiran.

  • what are oiran? ;;)

  • similar to geisha - but don't follow the geisha principles. I think they are mistresses?

  • Oiran/Ouran are high-class courtesans.

    It's like a high-class prostitute in other words :/

If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

  • @FuturisticXXL geisha are host lady's / entertainers.

    ouran are prostotitues

  • @FuturisticXXL Actually oiran are prositutes- if I spelled that right but yeah oiran are high class prositues.

  • @jusk8lp oiran were courtesans woman of pleasureso to speak. where as geisha were entertainers they preformed like japanese classical music and dance. i think

  • @jusk8lp When I was a little girl in Japan, my mother always used to tell me "Stay away from those women! They are not beautiful geisha artists-they're miserable Oiran" Orian are the stereotype geisha that many proclaim geisha to be. They are nothing like real geisha, and wear their makeup to get the respect of a geisha. But they are just mistresses and common "whores".

  • @akatsukihime1 That's really interesting! Thanks for the input. ;D

  • @jusk8lp prostitutes xD

  • @jusk8lp they are distant relations of the first geisha

  • @VanityIsGlamour how can you tell?? they look the same as geisha's

  • @MyCherriiPie1 i would like to say because of the hair ornaments but im not too sure if I could see where the obi( sash/belt) was tied I could tell you but Im not sure my self

  • @VanityIsGlamour How can you tell?
