  • I'd like to marry Bill Whitten. He's totally hot!

  • the pledge of allegiance to the flag isn't true yet

    liberty and justice for all

  • I am supportive of full civil equality for gay partners, but always believed marriage was reserved for between a man and a woman. However my problem is I agree with the views of the pro gay marriage forces on most other issues, and believe the right wing extremists are truly a negative and evil force in this country. Guess I'll have to keep working on it. If I had a gay child, I'm sure that would influence my thinking. Good luck Maine on making the right choice for Maine.

  • voteyesonquestion1: such a move wouldn't "redefine" the meaning of marriage. Such views are very cynical. If you disagree with me, then answer this. How would legalizing gay marriage DIRECTLY affect heterosexual marriages? How would legalizing homosexual marriage DIRECTLY redefine already existing heterosexual marriages? If you can answer me that then I might just agree with you. That is, if you can.

  • If we called it garriage then the yesonquestion1'ers would still find a way to not make it equal.

love is love...it's as simple as that.

  • A question for "voteyesonquestion1" - WHY shouldn't homosexuals be allowed to marry? That's a simple enough question. Nobody seems to have an answer, other than "the Bible...blah blah blah"... Not everyone's Christian, so the Bible doesn't enter into it. Whom does it hurt? Why can't they marry?

    Why?

Can you honestly answer this without using your own religious beliefs as a convenient excuse to hate?

    It's a simple question...

    Why?

  • Who decided that marriage is only between a man and a woman? Haven't you ever heard of civil marriages? These don't have anything whatsoever to do with religious beliefs, but are instead local/state/federal licensing issues and are separate and apart from religion. Therefore, your argument doesn't hold water, so I'll ask again...

WHY can't they marry? Whom does it hurt? How is it affecting you at all?

  • voteyesonquestion1, marriage is between two consenting adults who love and commit to each other in a sacred and everlasting bond. It is not only between a man and a woman, it can also be between two women as well as two men. Gay marriage is not a new institution, it is the same institution as straight marriage aside from the gender makeup of the couple. Only a self-righteous, arrogant and narcissistic person would view gay marriage as stealing marriage from straight people.

  • You still haven't answered my question...are you terrified that this aging queer has gotten the better of the oh-so-righteous heterosexual?

I think you are. You don't have an answer, you're terrified of trying to come up with one, so you just go on making more bigoted posts on other people's comments.

    Coward.

    Bigot.

No, I'm not calling you names out of spite, merely pointing out what you obviously have demonstrated yourself to be.

  • Uhm...according to Merriam Webster: "a blustering browbeating person; especially : one habitually cruel to others who are weaker"

Bullies, by definition, are ones with power, with access, who hold all the cards and who don't share. Who engender fear and hate to maintain their status as bully.

People are seeking equal access to marriage. Others who already have access are restricting access to marriage to only themselves. Really - who's the bully?

  • yet its ok for you pro communists to bully gays?

  • Are you TRYING to get banned?

Any credibility you had, by claiming to not hate gays, JUST WENT UP IN SMOKE.

  • Ignorant people are like cancer cells that do not know they are malignant. As they spread, they affect the whole body. Ignoramus nuptials will bring more suffering to our society like divorce and single parenting.

  • there is not causation between violence and gender-make up within couples. saying that there is more violence among gay couples than straight couples is lying and fear mongering towards manipulation of a public who has yet to really understand gay people well. I choose hope over fear and understanding over ignorance any day, and I think it is very sad that you denounce homosexuality with an unrelenting and damning passion.

  • Source, please

  • Stop bringing up about single parenting. You're one of the most ungrateful people I've ever seen on youtube.

Single parenting is a disease? I know many single parents who work their butts off to take care of their kids. And now you go attack the single parents? That's just sickening.

~A son of a divorced parent.

  • So then why you think gays wouldn't make good parents?

  • Massachusetts has had marriage equality for 5 years and they remain the state with the lowest divorce rate. Do you want us to start sourcing our facts? We will. Meanwhile...how about a source or two from you? Demonstrate to us, somewhere outside of your own mind...a journal article, a research study, government census facts, something....to illustrate just how extending access to legal marriage to all consenting adults will lead to suffering, divorce, and single parenting.

  • In The future You would regret what you said. Becuase either you hate yourself that much that you need gay people to look down on to feel better for you never gonna have.

  • voteyesonquestion1, Barney Frank would probably give the same kind of response to you that he gave to a person that compared Obama to Hitler during a health-care town hall discussion. On what planet do you come from, it's a tribute to the first amendment that such nonsense is propagated so freely in our country, and talking to you would be like talking to a dining room table. It is amazing and dumbfounding to me that some people can't see how gay people are the same as straight people.

  • voteyesonquestion1, I struggle with a society whose people do not unanimously respect me as a gay man. I and others disagree with you in that homosexuality is indifferent to heterosexuality, and it is not a matter of right or wrong. What is wrong is disrespecting others by taking away civil rights from others who have the equal right to freedom and justice as you. Feel free to think that homosexuality is wrong, but if you attack the citizenship of gay people, that is crossing the line.

  • voteyesonquestion1, marriage is a civil right, and gay people are citizens with freedom and justice and therefore have the right to get legally civilly married to each other, and if gay couples get legally civilly married, you still live your own life and have your own definition, opinion and belief of marriage. Christians view the holy day as Sunday, but if Jewish people believe that Saturday is the holy day, that doesn't mean that they are redefining "holy day" for the rest of society.

  • Why? Show proof other then the Bible or any other cliched "studies" to justify it.

  • Homosexuality is NOT a choice.

  • You sound like someone who Hitler would have loved -- The Others are different from us, so we must stop them from ever living normal lives, and history will actually love us for that.

Fuck you. I'm serious. I'm through trying to be civil with homophobes.

  • suggesting that you have the right to define marriage for everyone else is arrogant and self-righteous. who would want to be around someone who has a stuck-up and snobbish attitude towards others? are you proud of that?

  • He and his ilk are afraid of loosing their control over people because they're insecure with themselves and need someone to look down on to feel better about themselves.

  • Or the people who vote against gay marriage could always pay for the health care that a number of same sex couples can't have because they aren't married. Afterall, it is the CHILDREN suffering from this lack of insurance.

  • And you're "redefining" marriage for everyone too. Why can YOU live your life?

And why can't organization like NOM and refund the people who donated to them because they've been cheated by them?

  • How in heavens name is providing marriage equality and equal access equivalent to currently married couples being "cheated by the state"???? People who chose to follow the example of others rather than rationalize things out for themselves are the ones who enjoy taking catch phrases like "redefining marriage" and run with the idea. Marriage is not being redefined. Marriage is still marriage. These laws and court rulings are just about providing access to marriage that has been denied to some

  • Did you come from a broken home?

  • How judgmental you are, voteyesonquestion1. It's amazing you dare to think you know what this man feels. And to say same sex marriage is the enemy of true love is an insult to my husband and I, as well as the tens of thousands of gay or lesbian couples around the country. I assure you my husband and I do truly love each other. We have been together for 18 years, married for two. I care for him in some ways more than for myself. How dare you!

  • what a hero. seriously :) i wished i had accepting parents

  • This is great. It shows real people, not just stupid celebrities. It's why Prop 8 passed in California, because they used celebrities not actual people for the No on Prop 8.

  • I fail to see the point of the message. My brother is living with a woman and he has zero say over her daughter. I don't have a dog in this fight but if I did maybe I would study the problem in more depth.

  • The message is that he loves his daughter and wants her to get married.

To do this people need to vote No on 1.

  • Just a great ad and he is correct!!

  • Let's ask Dick Cheney's daughter to speak out on this issue!

O no,,, wait a minute! That would make him look bad in front of his conservative right wing klan,,,,they would never approve,,,,so they have to keep her silent! I see Liz and Dick's wife out on the airwaves spewing Dick's propaganda, but when it comes to the gay daughter,,,SILENCE!!!!

  • You do know that he came out in support of marriage equality right?

  • Then that means we would see alot more of the gay daughter numbnutts! But as you can see, the 8 years he was in office and 7 months after,,,we still never hear or see the gay daughter speak up on gay rights! WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS SMART GUY?

If he was supportive of marriage equality as you claim, then his gay daughter would be allowed to speak out and speak up on the issue! Have you seen her lately?

Soo sorry you believe in someones words and not actions! Especially Dick Cheney!

  • IxHATExGAYS, it is nothing short of amazing that YouTube would allow someone to create a User ID that shallowly promotes hatred towards a suspect minority group of people and division within our society, and I would not be surprised if YouTube were to be challenged in court for not effectively policing their comments and User ID system for keeping their website safer, more dignified and more respectful for everyone, and especially for our children.

  • Mr. Whitten is a model parent, standing up for equal rights for his daughter & other gay/lesbian people.

  • What's this have to do with gay marriage?

  • He is right... I am a republican catholic who used to think that the only way God would love me would be to keep marriage between a man and a woman... I was wrong... its hard to say that, but the more I talked to people and studied and prayed about it, the more I thought... its just wrong not to allow legal rights to these people. I am proud to live in a country getting back to its roots of freedom and liberty for all... now we just have to wait for taxes and free market principles to go back.

  • Great job Bill. I am from Brewer too, I remember Pop-Warner, the Witches FB, and Umaine FB too..

Your dauhters certaintly must be so proud of thier dad.

    What a great role model.

    Steve O

  • Great ad. He's right. Let his daughter marry who she wants. Vote No on 1!

  • The time has come for Maine to show they respect each person in this state. We have family values and that means making every family matter and be protected.

    Vote NO on 1!

  • Awesome! Wish we had ads like that in New Mexico.

  • God bless you all in Maine in the final PUSH FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY!! Wish I was a Mainer just to vote NO! Good luck to everyone working on the campaign and I'll be praying for a just outcome!

  • The sooner we recognize that all of us participating in this discussion are sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, sisters brothers uncles and aunts, grandparents - fellow citizens of the world, the sooner it will become obvious that we must be treated on an equal footing.

How could it be otherwise? Whose child deserves to be treated as a lesser being. Not his. Not mine. Not yours.

  • Wonderful ad, and I love how happy he looks, which is so important for people to see - bravo!

  • This man is ahead of his time. He chose to not be ignorant like most of the people who are against this. I'm voting NO.
