  • since when did being a musical theater major mean that you have no idea how to sing in a group. this was yelling. not singing.

  • Absolutely fantastic !!!!!! Thanks for uploading..

  • Awesome!!:) almost brought me to tears

  • These singers need some direction.

  • AMAZING! You guys are fab! I would never get bord listening to your version! just fab! its like the cast of GLEE but even better! yehaa!

  • You guys got some chutzpa!

THis was a great version. Could stand some polish here and there, but the best (outside Ms. Simon herself) that I've seen on youtube.

One critique ... It seemed you started at forte so had nowhere to go when you needed to crescendo, therefore it seemed you were shouting.

IMO, the second male soloist's stylization falls flat on its face.

However the first and third female soloists REALLY kick butt!

  • Love it x

  • I love John-Michel and mathanee.... i guess kyle is good as usnavi... but i dont actually know him haha

  • Wow an amazing version of one of my favourite songs.

  • omg...great! you could hear the emotions and the singers really enjoyed it...best version I've heard so far :)

  • the first girl is the best one

  • Takes me back to days of singing with friends and playing just for the sheer blody hell of it..... treasure it guys.... this will be a memory for life.... and theme tune to your group.... You made me sad and happy.... Oh how 'I wish i could go make to college'

  • very beautiful:-)

  • well done! I'm impressed!!!

  • Doing justice to one of the most uplifting songs ever written.........i really loved it when the group came together as a choir, sounded like you could have taken the roof off that place!!! ....great stuff :)

Just a thought.....have you ever considered performing in hospitals, maybe for children? I know if i was ill or dying that would be just the kind of thing that would help me feel better.......food for the soul.

  • = )

  • i absolutely adore the first girl's voice, it's beautiful. i wish i had a voice like that. :) it makes me smile,

  • this makes me small. i love you all.

  • makes me SMALL. ha! i mean SMILE! hilar

  • GREAT JOB GUYS!

  • AMAZING!!!:)

  • ugh, I hate when people call belting "shouting". This is not a choir here people. On Broadway, blending perfectly is NOT the most important thing in the music. It's the passion, the heart and the soul of the characters and the composer's work, and here, these kids did a fabulous job.

Now yes, while the "riffage" in some of the male solos is a bit excessive, not to mention indulgent, it's all in good fun. They were having a good time, there's no harm in that.

  • The recording sounds like it didn't do this one justice. Maybe not as technically accurate as some versions on here, but not as dead either. Keep it up!

  • ok wow well you have some potential

but when you go loud, and you have all the different harmonies ( intentional or un~ ) it sounds rather bone-shattering :( as in, not too great.

  • Coz, this is a musical theatre class.

    Think a little.

  • I'm not in this one either.

  • This is NOT shouting! Belting, yes. Shouting no. If you want to hear shouting, listen to Patti Labelle (live usually) and Fantasia. THAT's shouting.

  • I don't what you all are talking about it, I don't think it's shouting at all! Yes, there is a difference between belting and shouting. I can here the tenors straining a little bit near the end, but most of them are definitely belting. The blend did get thrown a little bit by specific voices sticking out at times.

Sorry, I just get offended when people say belting is shouting cuz I'm a belter.

  • They're shouting.

and most of the guys sound like they dont know their notes and their searching for them throughout their solos.

  • To me, it seems to be a bit too "shouty"... There is a big difference between projection, belting, and then just shouting. I think it really threw off the blending. I really like it though. It has a lot of energy and is very eye catching!

  • i agree. also, this is a choir. not a big solo. but you all have great voices

  • I have been in some shows and stuff for singing and you guys are AMAZING.. so confident :D

  • This makes me so jealous, singing like that, so effortless, and you all look like you're just enjoying yourselves. You also vaguely remind me of the little Rent crew. (: we're singing this tomorrow for our school's honors choir. My favorite song. =) plus i have the solo in the beginning. thank yaa for entertaining me.

    have a nice day

  • Flayne! I thumbs upped your comment!

  • I dream of doing something like this. I'm in grade ten, and am in two musical theater programs. I hope someday to be this talented.

  • You either are that talented now or you'll never be. Talent is not something you can achieve.

  • That is soooo not true. That's why even the most amazing performers took voice, acting, and dance lessons at some point in their lives. Yes, some people are born that talented, but it's rare. Talent is usually honed to a professional level. That's why these kids are in a musical theater program anyway. TO LEARN.

Just keep working LindsayJean12, as long as you're dedicated you can be even better than the people in this vid.

  • Damian you must distinguish between trainig and talent. Training lets you make your talent grow. Without training no talent is worth a penny. Without talent, you still can achieve considerable skill. I wish good luck to LindsayJean too.

  • First you say talent is something you can't achieve. Now you basically just said the same thing as I did in my previous post.

You can be born with a certain degree of talent, but with training you can nourish and better develop that talent.

With hard work someone who is "okay", can become "great" or even "fantastic".

  • No Damian, I insisted that talent is something you are born with and buid on, but you can newer achieve if you don't have it.

  • Okay, I get you now. You worded it differently before, and it sounded like you were saying you are born with a certain degree of talent and can't improve it ("You either are that talented now or you'll never be. Talent is not something you can achieve."). I understand what you mean and agree with you totally. You can't build off of something that was never there in the first place.

  • Mincing words doesn't change anything. Tell the kids they did a great job (because they did) and get over it.

  • I agree with you somewhat. Everyone is born with a certain amount of talent, but DEVELOPING it and SHAPING it cannot be done without training.

A person has SUPERB lung power and a soulful voice, but someone needs to train him/her to control and round off her notes, for example.

  • Sure, I do not question this. I did not mean to discourage LindsayJean (see the first entry) just to point out that she expressed herself wrong. What she want to achieve one day is skill, not talent. I guess talent she already has. Now, being an artist does not mean you don't have to express yourself precisely, just the contrary, it is good if you have clear idea of what you are seeking.

  • that was great!! ... (and who's the hottie third from left?????)

  • awesome

  • thats awesome!!! i really want to go to this school!!!

  • Amazing coral version!!! * * * * *

  • Having a music degree, I feel as though I can make an educated comment. I think this was absolutely WONDERFUL! It is hard to find people who love music and sound good doing it. You are surely blessed!! Keep the music ALIVE!

  • niiice

  • MR. KIMBALL, THIS IS GREAT!

  • ugh, phenomenal! but let's be honest. mr. kimball steals the show.

  • Zak, I love your voice, man. Very smokey. With only three girls in your class, they sure make themselves HEARD! Fantastic

  • YOU ARE ALL FABULOUS!!!!

  • I love you all! YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • Wow! that was amazing
