  • I've been toying with doing this to heat the house, or at least help. The problem with using it for a shower is that it's dark in the morning so you wont be producing any heat at that time. You'd also want the incoming/outgoing pipes to be very well insulated and as short as possible. You'd also want double pane glass. It's a great and easy concept though.

  • Nice step-by-step video...

  • colonella, its really a great job as u r trying to give knowledge, i really appreciate that, but every where there should be a criticism , as the above said there is no output section, so thats a think, thank you...

  • colonella, its really a great job as u r trying to give knowledge, i really appreciate that, but every where there should be a criticism , as the above said there is no output section, so thats a think, thank you...

  • the heat will lower the output of that ever that is but keep trying

  • i want heat in winter ,,there is no sun in winter ,,how does this work then

  • good video a bit slow but a great idea that anyone can expand on if they they want to.

would like to see how you've applied this for your needs. i think this would be great to heat a small or medium sized green house ! just need some way to pump the water apround with out using hydro, maybe thermo dynamics ?

  • this is way to small, i get where he is going with it, but no part 2??

dont make a video if you are only saying the same thing everyone else has said but on a barbie scale!! this video should be deleted, technology has far surpassed it for far less money and effort, thanks for posting though!

  • @justinmy300z Hi Justin, This is only a small scale sample to show people how the components work. Click on the link in the upper left to see the full size system video. Technology only has made it less expensive to build. Deleting the video would keep other people from seeing how simple it is. I have 4 daughters, and they all loved thier Barbies. Leave Barbie out of this !!!! lol Thanks Justin, I hope this helps you...Ernie

  • Oh crap... my wife is gonna be pissed... I just screwed the box to my kitchen table!

  • were can I watch part 2 video? also what do you do next?

  • Comment removed

  • Who has flagged intermitri's comment as spam? It is no spam. Youtube should post the names of the flaggers

  • You forgot to leave the ends of the cooper coil outside the box. Anyway I doubt this would be effective. Running water won't get heat enough for a hot shower with such a small extension of tube.

  • @luic4ever This is just a sample box...see the linked video. Ernie

  • Hi brother needs to chat a, Asian women busizz4me.info

  • How the fuck did I get here? I typed in Midnight Oil?

  • i love coca cola

  • If anyone wants info on totally legitimate free and limitless energy contact me! Serious inquiries only!!!!!!!!!

  • How do u hook it up?

  • This DYI video was brought to you by Coca Cola!

  • Ok how you make the water run through that coil?

  • Nice video!

I wish I could build in the house...

  • Aswome video im subrcribing cant wait for more.

  • useless video without more information as how to hook it up or how you get it to make free heat and or free heated water, nice try though. I'm looking forward to more info or videos thanks

  • @chris779779chris New video comming soon. Easy DIY fast fun easy step by step.

  • Silly Billy! Should I rush home before dark for a hot shower and then go back to work?

  • @solit0fied ...LOL....

  • @colonella2002 A old man saying lol... Dude thats wrong

  • Where's part 2? This is pointless without more info....What no? how do we hook it up?

  • Oh I didnt know that that makes a lot more sense then

  • Cool idea but wouldnt it be frozen most of the year

  • Look up closed loop solar system. The fluid is glycol, antifreeze.

  • you mean solar heater not solar power panel

  • Yes, it's also called a flat solar panel...

  • I agree with HintofBlue.

GREAT step by step video on how to make the panel, but further instruction would be great to make this a complete project.

    Any chance of that?

  • It's in process...

  • the surface exposed to the sun is supposed to be mat, not shiny.

  • why don't we use this tech long time ago

  • Angels fallen from heaven do exists.

Thank you so much sir for your info.

    The world appreciates it.

  • I built my own Solar Panels for UNDER $100 that currently power my entire 1700 Square Foot home using the plans at:

    ambigrid-review.blogspot(DOTcom

  • how do you use it? I mean, once you build it, how do you use it to make hot water? I don't know how to use solar panels, please tell me what to do, to hook it up to the water.

  • @hintofblue you face the heater towards the sun, the sun heats water in the copper tubing of which one end is fed cold water, the water gets hot and expands causing it to move eg: Like how the mercury in a thermometer rises when you heat the bottom'.....This hot water could then be stored in a standard insulated hot water cylinder. Have no water in the pipes and warm air is produced instead!

The multitude of uses from the sun's free energy is astounding and it is our future.

  • Thank you soooo much!

  • Thanks man. Its not really a solar panel its a solar water heater. But that a great video on how to make one. Most of the videos you get claim to show you how to do it yourself but they lead you to a site where you have to buy a book on how to do it.

Thanks for showing us just how to do it. Without the BS money making site.

  • We need to define"solar panel" and solar hot water heater. There is a difference.

  • Be smart - don't pay any more electricity bills. more info: solar.xfollow.me (Copy to your browser's address bar)

  • This is EXCELLENT but don't you have to drill holes through the sides and have the copper tubing stick out of it so that you can hook it up to a hose that will run the water through it?

  • You can connect a hose to it. As long as you use it in warmer climates.

  • And this will only keep water "hot" during the summer months.

so there for is virtually useless during winter. but deff a money saver for summer electric bills

  • nope. a properly constructed and oriented solar hot water system will work year around. this one is small, "proof of concept" type device, and will not make much hot water. it may raise the temp of the water going through it a degree or 2. but it will work as long as the sun is on it, ignoring exterior air temp (that's what the insulation is for.)

  • so you mean solar heater for water not solar panel for electicity?

  • Yes....correct.

  • do it really work? heating up water means boiling it? how will the cold water pass into the tube? do it need a pressure pump to push the water up?( if the unit is in the rooftop), can I increase the size of the pipe and the length too? what type of pipe should be used (are those pipe that are use in air conditioning is OK)?

  • Fraud. How does it go from outside temp to boiling temp? That's a big jump. Plus, this guy posts videos every month from different accounts. Here are just a few of his.. windsolarhome, solarwindhome, energyforearth, and colonella2002.. all linking to his website. I'm sure there's more. Explain that Ernie.

  • Think. Water boils at 212 degrees. I never said boil. I never gave permission for the other guys to use my video. I am colonella 2002. This stands for the small town my Dad was from (Colonella,Italy), and the year I last visited. The others are fakes, and posted without my permission. If you can help me stop the users of my video please help..Ernie

  • lol. calling someone a fraud when you yourself obviously have no grasp of basic physics involved, or the type of device, which have been used for over 100 years in the USA, mostly in the evacuated tube configuration.

as i said above, this device is a small unit not designed to boil water. to do that you need evacuated tubes and sealed heat pipes (tubes filled with oil or other high heat capacity fluid). the gas or electric unit in your home does not boil water. 150 degrees is usually the max.

  • you connect the copper tubing to the water mains right? otherwise i dont see how to heat water :P

  • Thank you for your interesting video. I would like to make a suggestion.

When you drill holes into the plate on either side of the tube and attach the tube to the plate by twisting a metal wire, you realise full contact between the tube and the aluminium plate. This increases heat-transmission, which makes your tool more efficient. Question: Could you explain the reason why you do not expose the tubes to sunlight? Thank you in advance

  • i use to hate the sun for being so hot all the time here in florida but now i think i will be good friends from now on

  • I live in canada, dont think it would work really good during winter...

  • Where there is sun, there is heat...winter and summer. All you woul need is 120 degrees.

  • Lol water heater or solar panel??? Someone post a good video on how to make a simple solar panel!

  • Solar panel is your answer. You have 2 types of solar panels. PV or photo voltaic or electric, and heat absorbing or non electric. Thanks Ernie

  • is the copper pipe for flowing warter through?

  • i'm confused. how do i utilize the box to heat my house or a room? when i put the antifreeze in the tube and seal it, how do i get the air flow? how much would you sell the box for?

  • I'm sorry that you dislike the video. This is my first negative response in over 200,000 views from all locations. What

would you do to make this panel better ?

I would like your suggestion, and know how. How many panels have you built, and installed? What type of science backround do you have? Look forward to your help. Try to be positive...Ernie

  • Hello,

Do you know if it's possible to make a solar panel that would heat up a roosting box for birds? It's -40 C here today and I feel terrible for the poor birds outside.

    Thanks,

    Kathy

PS: My mom freaks out when she comes to visit because my table is covered with all my paint supplies; can't wait to tell her about your table, lol.

PSS: I already wrote and posted this comment but it didn't come up; I just joined You Tube so I'm sorry if you get this same message twice.

  • Hi Kathy,

I'm sure if you placed a version of the panel on the top of the box the temp would rise. The problem is at night. The temp goes back down. I would suggest not to worry, mother nature would not let them suffer...Ernie

  • not a very inefficient design.. you are using convection to transfer the heat.. you are better off with the copper pipe on top of the Al sheet also painted black and then 2 sheets of Plexiglas to insulate the front

  • I tested both ways, and under works better. The temp is about 10 to 15 higher. Yesteday's test pulled 130 degrees inside panel, and 20 degrees outside. Thanks

  • do you mean: Not a very Efficient design...

  • yeah sorry thats what i ment yeah

  • It is a very efficient design. Temps reached 165 plus degrees.

  • How does it heat the water? (where do you hook it up at or to for the connection?) The site is a pay site.

  • great video, easy to follow and understand.

  • Good work! Keep up the effort.

  • but then how do you transfer it to your house and other stuff this is only how to make it but not how t connect it you need to make another video on how to connect it or if someone can send me some mail on how it sends electricity to your house please i need to know hate those dang electricity bills and it may help some people to do this too :)

  • 3:40, "We've created a box...."

  • Great video on the basic design. One question for you is that do you do all your projects on the dining table? My wife would kill me if I did that!

  • No wife...no problem...lol

  • Cant live with em...cant kill em! haha

    Thanks for the excellent video.

  • Try to heat some water in winter with this system.

  • Good clear video. Is there any chance you'll be doing any kind of video with the details of how to connect the solar water panel to a current home hot water system?

  • Soon I hope.....

  • hmmmm.. nice move!!

  • thx you

  • Nice workbench..

  • ahahaha I have the same

  • would that work on cloudy weather? I live in Scotland :C

  • The next video will show the complete process. In short you heat a liqid to heat water for heat or hot water. thanks ernie

  • When ya done building it, what cha suppose to do with it? thanx

  • Thanks Adam, you are 100% correct. The final panels will have the copper attached to the alluminum for better transfer...

  • your video rocks!!

i might just leave the tubing in the coil shape and attach it directly to the aluminum sheet for max heat transfer.

This is basically a 'preheater' for your regular hot water heater- so you don't have to heat water up from 68 degrees to 160 degrees, this preheats that 68 degree water to 120 degrees.

  • Wow! I am really glad that people like you are doing this... I just went on a wild goosechase to try and find somthing relatively inexpensive and easy to do...

  • Please see part 1.2. I added that part later. this was my first production. The next will be completed 100% before I upload. Thanks Ernie

  • is the water going to run through the copper tube? if so doesn't the copper tube have to stick out of the box to connect it?

  • copper is no longer inexpensive.

  • You are correct Brian, but in the long run the savings make up for the cost of the copper pipe. Thanks Ernie

  • Thank you! I like the way you put that, you make things easier to understand, I appreciate that in a youtuber! KARStarla...

  • Colonella, I clicked on "details" and on the link in it so I could watch the video link you posted but when you click on that it says, "ULR contained malformed video ID"

You might want to fix that, I'd love to watch it.

After you make solar panel collectors can you show what it is we need (after that) and how to connect them to a "device" or how can I ask this? Um... To "bateries which store the energy they collect... did I ask that right?

  • The link only shows the final video of this segment, part 1.2. The next video will show the building, and connecting of the system to an existing hot water system. When the sun is down and the hot water is gone the existing system will take over. This system is based on hot water. Think of the storage tank like a big thermos. No batteries needed.

  • hey this is looking good but it wont work on an overcast day will it? could you message me to tell me the answer please

  • You are correct, but you can store the hot water in a insulated tank. Your regular heating system will take over when all the heat is expelled.

  • I assume that there were two holes drilled in the side of the box to allow the excess copper tubing through. Any special details involved in this?

  • You are correct. In my final video,Part 1.2 you can see the holes being drilled. No special details are involved. It is as easy as you see in the video.

  • can you tell me how do i make one that can run my pc,and how do you use it,i think you need a generator that converts energy or something like that.

  • how much does it all cost?

  • This was just a small model, and cost about $9 per square foot.

  • Very good and very simple!

  • You sir, are a really good guy for doing this video.

  • he likes coka cola

  • no he likes coca cola

  • Holy Cow!

What an informative video. I can't wait to see more from this videographer.

    Ernie, FILM ON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey thank Ernie! I'll be looking forward to your other videos, thanks for being easy to understand for us common folks here!

    God bless you

    Kim

  • that seems easy thanks, but where do you put it and most importantly how does it connect to your hot water supply? How many of those are needed and for how much hot water? Can it be used in the winter as well?

Lots of questions, how does it work as compared with solar panels already on the market? Can you help answer these questions?

    thanks :0)

  • This was about building the panel. Hooking it up is all over the web.
