  • Guys standing near a speeding car= most simple, yet dangerous kind of stunt work of all.

  • hell yeah 0.11 tahoma from san andreas probably gonna be in gta v too. =]

  • gta v <3

  • Thumbs up if IGN brought you here.

  • am i stupid or is the stereo fucked up???

  • worst acting ever?

  • Ok.......How come this didn't end up in the top 10 car chases of all time?!?!?!

  • @skeezix91 Because no one but you knew such a list existed. lol

  • this looks like a good movie ^^

  • love this underrated movie and the chase scene is one of my favorites

  • One of the best scenes ever nan no cop show on tv today could ever match that

  • sonsabitches!! 3:56

  • one thing i dont get from this is that when he goes the wrong way he gets to the highway. but HOW COME the cars are going the opposite style?? its not a camera flip or anything i dont get why its like that. they are driving like in england :S

  • I drive like this all the time, especially with my ass-tight jeans, raybans, and bushy hair.

  • Good chase, but this is no Ronin.

  • brought to you by Chevrolet

  • What are we gonna do?! - We're going to an auto parts store to get a new window!

  • I just love how random guys with automatic weapons, wearing big 80's sunglasses and 'members only' jackets start coming out of the woodwork after these guys.

  • @Phase171 the guy they 'robbed' was an undercover cop so they would be his backup

  • @fatelvistheking Well no shit. You should invest in a sense of humor.

  • @Phase171 I have all my money tied up in ENRON

  • I've got to get me one of those Impala's!

  • None of the cars have plates

  • "We lucked out Johnny! WE LUCKED OUT! WOOOOO!" Love it!

  • Man, they don't drive chase scenes like this anymore. There were a ton of closecalls in this where somebody'd be dogmeat if they were off even a fraction. lol. Great camera angles/driving. Now I know why people hold this chase in such high regard.

  • Didn't the feds get the plates? I mean their plates were police issue, you think the feds, one of them, there were lots chasing them would have gottin the numbers, just saying as all!

  • Respond to this video... Watch the movie & you will find out

  • yeah awesomeness!

  • "It shouldn't cost you more than a couple of minutes."

Man, I wanna know what that lady's been SMOKIN"!

  • road rage!

  • 6:04 "Crazy Fuckin' Assholes"

  • LOOL

" Sons of Biiitchess " epic movie

  • @ludek92 Gotta luv Petersen sTWO FEET on the brakes!! Maybe modified for the flick but the Impala probalbly had the 305 small block with a two barrel carb.

  • secret service men getting ransom for a setup deal, litterally robbing a federal covert operation not knowing... and one of them is an adrenaline addict and abuse of his identity...

    fukin awesome plot

  • lol @ the typical 80s film score at teh start

  • That.... was Bad Ass.

  • Two people don't have adrenaline glands.

  • One of fav movies ever.

    RE: Sound.

Watched DVD w/ Friedkin's commentary last night.

They shoot a car chase with NO sound.

And add sound in editing room later.

Just interesting because it sounds so real.

    Check it out..............

  • william petersen is super fucking cool.

  • I love the 80s!

  • 3:55="Sonsabitches!"

  • that mercury grand marquis couldn't keep up

thats a great car that impala

  • You know the backseat looked like a Taco Bell bathroom on chili fiesta night after that car chase.

  • I'm sure that car ate shit right after the cut at 4:25

There's a drop-off right in the center that is hidden underwater

  • You could hear the whine of the thermactor on that then-brand new 1985 Mercury Marquis LS. Very authentic, they really sounded like that with the variable venturi carbs. Amazing scene when it jumped the wall onto the railroad tracks. Try THAT with a Chevy Aveo.

  • @schrodingercat91

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. My Dad had a Lincoln 82 Mark VI 302, and I drove a 91 Crown Vic 302.

That sound is authentic. Kudos to Friedkin for using those sound effects.

  • @mikepier1 100 percent.!!! My mom had a Crown Vic .. Identical sound glad there are still some smart guys out there. You can here the upper whining of the Vic I know I drove it when I was 16, lets leave it at that, get it?

  • This movie gave birth to GTA

  • Caprice!!! Love it!!!

  • @sandrochatlos1 It's an Impala, look where the backup lights are on it. And, the Caprice did not come with dog dish hubcaps standard like the Impala did.

  • LOVE THAT CAPRICE..........

  • That Mercury sounds good!

  • clearly they have different coping skills.

  • @mullyscans Bwahahaha! Good one, man. Love this flick

  • what the fuck do they mean minor tie up? Jesus its like the 405 in portland, minor tie up my ass.

  • Does the Secret Service really train their agents to drive like this at Beltville?

  • back it up steve, back it up

  • idope - Just to clear up any confusion I accidentally replied from my brothers account (MrHereWeGoYo) but it looks like you respoded before I could delete it.

  • Comment removed

  • i guess this was when american cars were badass especially the grand marquis and the impala

  • I love listening to these 70/80's v8's. You can really hear how choked up they are. lol

    vvvv!...vvvv!...vvvv!...v!...vvvv...VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV!

  • Where are the police?

  • Great driving by a young Will Petersen. Also their enemies were coming out of the woodworks.

  • ....frick funny....worried about the condition of the car to avoid suspicion, too funny

  • Sons a bitches... Its two Chevy's

  • What was with the guy jumping off the bridge? WTF?

  • @masantana you have to see the film...sort of a flashback within a flashback scene

  • lol u can hear the vrooom:)

  • thats the same place thats in grease

  • if AJ Cowling drove like that OJ would still be a free man

  • Only a full size American car can take this kind of abuse.

  • @Bag0fRats That and toyota..

  • @MaxiTheOnehitWonder they would bend in half = no frame

  • hey did anyone else notice that they set up the freeway traffic to the way they drive in England. the side they were on was actually the right side while the side they actually finished up on was the wrong side lol.

  • I saw this movie in a theater when it was new, and it doesn't seem like very long ago in my memory. But the cars sure look old - so I know it's been a long time by now.

I thought ending the chase by them driving on the freeway in the wrong direction was a very good idea. Of course, in reality, they'd have been whacked head-on in about one second.

  • Definitely one of the best car chase scenes in a movie. The ones in the Jason Bourne movies are pretty tight also.

  • @southport97 Check out ones in "Ronin" a 90's movie featuring Robert DeNiro. They're pretty good too.

  • Chevy Impala Vs. Mercury Grand Marquis-Full Size, Chevy is a police package, Merc-is not.

  • I wish I had the yellow Impala. Those were some good cars.

  • Damn, Grissom is pushing that Chevy!! Badass driving!! Straight raw film making here!

  • "There's a minor tie up on the 405"

  • "Who the **** are these guys!?"

  • an 8 minute car chase. 5/5

  • Try that shit in one of those Fast and Bi Curious ricers!

  • I see cars like this at the speedway all the time. Too bad all this chevy iron is disappearing. now there are more honda civics then there are impalas.

  • @gragor11 hey hey... I've love to be able to drive heavy duty chevy iron everyday of the week but I save a lot of money with the civic..... priorities.

  • YEEHAAA!!! A great, badassin' car chase I ever seen! :D

  • Best car chase scene in history

  • makes me wanna play san andreas haha

  • Chevy Caprice vs Mercury Grand Marquis!

  • @eldo59 Impala

  • Caprice vs crown vic

  • Is it just me or are all the cars at the end of the chase driving on the wrong side? Or is/was it just the actual layout of carriageways on that road?

  • 4:13: "Who the fuck are THESE guys??" lol

  • this movie reminded me of my worst dreams.. everything seems like it's going great.. then you find out nothing is what it seemed to be.. and you the goodguy are now the bad guy.. a very very sobering film....

  • this just came out on on blu ray

  • and it looks amazing - i'm glad they left most of the film grain in and didn't scrub it to death with DNR - very organic look

  • Yeah, they dubbed the engine sound effects in post production. According to Friedkin, the live sound was extremely terrible, plus when they shot this scene they'd already gone over budget and basically wasn't looking for any fancy smancy work. This sequence is like the rawest part of the film when it comes to the camerawork and editing.

  • What kind of engine does it have? A V6 or what?

  • thats what the caprice 305 sounded like with a pussy ass 200 r tranny behind it you can hear the 750 quadrajet bogging thats how you know as for the crown vic sounds shitty and i have no idea

  • The engine sound effect from the Grand Marquis sounds like it was dubbed from a Ford Mustang of the era. Not sure though. Any opinions?

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome transition at 7:10 ! Pure awesomeness....

  • Did the same thing in the train crash in "The French Connection"

  • Those poor cars. They must have wrecked dozens.

  • Listen to sounds of these engines..sounds like a chase...pure power, police engine power....quiet but powerful.

    VERY COOL !

  • I can see where the car chase idea came from in Ronin!

  • Utopian, Clint Eastwood would never have been able to do the stunts Petersen was fit enough to do, like running at breakneck speed across the top of an airport pedestrian belt, etc. Friedkin had high standards of physical fitness for that role, due to the character of Chance being so over-the-top.

  • @fhddriver Petersen actually did most of the driving in this scene... check it out. Also, one of the guys in the marquis, i think its the driver, is actually a real stuntman that played actor. Get em off me Jonny,!! get em off me!!! Hey who the fuck are these guys? Its two chevys!! theyre all over the place!! Piece of cake huh you son of a bitch!!! Has to be the best chase scene next to bullit... Steve Mcqueen around '68,,take care

  • @fhddriver Petersen actually did most of the driving in this scene... check it out. Also, one of the guys in the marquis, i think its the driver, is actually a real stuntman that played actor. Has to be the best chase scene next to bullit... Steve Mcqueen around '68,My dad showed me that one, I showed him this one !! We still can't decide

  • .....Where were the cops in all this? lol..

  • @BoBe1233 gone for donuts

  • movies like these make the 80's caprice/impala so badass!

  • @alexcheetah79 every american car was a badass if you compare to today toyotas and shits like that ... :/ I wish i would be borned in 1950 to get a nice buick gsx for present :)

  • was this the first movie to do a chase in the water ways?

  • Earliest known movie that I know of was Grease in 1978.

  • It's so cool.

Even GTA San Andreas has that waterway in the game. When I play that game I see so many TLADI L.A. references.

  • hätte jemand lust mir mir zu labern am tele oder auch per cam zu chaten

  • Love the 'car sick' type panic from the back seat and the sudden realisation of what they had done. Read on another site cops were impressed with how this was conveyed.

  • Man how many people were chasing and shooting at them? Also amazing that the only damage to that Impala was the rear window and little to the front right.

  • CLASSIC MOVIE!!!

    1:27

Fuck you doing trying to hurt--

Hey, shut-up!! Whoever's truck that is move it out the way now!!

Back it up steve back it up!!!

  • Hover cars don't grip the road, try hitting 70 in an rwd and you might feel why driving can be fun.

  • Watching him try to control it shortly before going the wrong way down a freeway, I'd have to agree; those old Chevy Impalas seem to be fantastically slippery.

  • Now imagive that with a hover car, something with no grip that would use flaps to stop and probably wouldn't hold up aswell as an Impala in a crash.

  • Wouldn't that be The Fifth Element?

  • Yea, but those cars had a method of brking that I don't know about. If you've ever seen a hovercraft thats what a hovercar would be like, its similar to driving on ice.

  • I can hardly wait...

  • this is one of my favorite cop flics of all time and -- for my money -- beats out French Connection and Bullitt as best car chase of all time.

Willem Dafoe is great in this and it's a reminder that Bill Pedersen was a bowlegged hottie once -- now the chubby Grissom of CSI

  • Wtf, the highway is backwards when they're on the bridge..

  • Chevy Impala was movin' Leaving the Merc in the dark after jumping the train tracks.

  • one of the top 10 chase scenes of all time.

  • I agree, great chase, and also a very good film. The ending totally caught me off guard. (no spoilers). People tend to forget this picture for some odd reasons, but it ranks as one of the best cop films out there.

  • 0:24 to 0:44 was one continuous shot. That must have been tough as hell to time.

  • William Friedkin has come a long way since his famous car chase in The French Coneection!

  • No effing 3D effects, just great stunt driving, choreography, cinematography and ugly cars and ugly L.A. on a slightly dry hazy depressing polluted midday, 'round 11 or 12. Classic.

  • Yep they don't make films like this any more. That's the outskirts of downtown LA. , it basically still looks the same. Top it off with 95 to 100+ degrees in the summer when it hasn't rained for months and no wind to speak of... That's the LA Hollywood rarely portrays.

    .

  • The agent at 4:51 needs to get to the range more often

  • What the hell is going on?

Who the f*** are these guys?

  • I practice this scene driving to work every weekday ;-)

  • @blackmountainboar LoL, "WE MADE IT BABY!!"

  • like omg ,

    they're all over the place

  • William Petersen is such a badass in this film. He did some of the stunts himself, car chase included.

  • Guessing he didn't do that in CSI?

  • Not as good as expected, but the opening shot and music where the cars are going up and down the bridge and the shots are amazing/perfect.

  • One of my favorite movies, and the best car chase ever filmed

What's amazing in this is it shows cops chased by other cops

    Friedkin rules!

  • Awesome !

    Love this car chase.

Not slick and fake and CGI loaded crap like

    in todays movies.

"we lucked out Johnny ! waa hoo !"

    Yep.

  • wooow william petersen

  • This Film Looks Cool I Am So Downloading This

  • "Piece of cake, huh?

  • Lets not forget dafoe, a mean motherF :)

  • Yea a great movie! What is the best about this chase scene is that you actually see the REAL actors in the car. So much more real and intense. Also the amount of time it must have taken to do all of this is astonishing. Most chases have watered down streets, no cars and a FRUIT STAND! The editing is so good. notice how the back glass has the same bullet hole in it. Many lesser films would have had the hole come and go. This had to be shot on many days, yet it is seamless.

  • you call this a car chase??!

  • CARS. FAST. CHASING... What would you call it?

  • fast lolol!

  • great intense fucking car chase scene & movie that is underrated & slept on (william petersen) is a greata ctor even though hes bo-legged (lol)

wang chung (city of the angels) instrumental blasting is awesome also

  • 8:00-8:15 the reggae guys who appear out of the blue - wow that was sooo great calm down scene that helped to philosophically switch off the mood of the whole car chase scene. Some of you may also remember another such moment from the movie, following another filled with action scene, when the camera shows a serene poster pinned to the door in Ruth's house, with a woman holding a shell close to her ear

  • We Lucked Out Johnny We Lucked Out Wooo Hoooo

  • One of the most underrated films of the last 30 years,,and these sad asshole directors today should go and fucking learn how to make a decent movie, without that overbearing prat brad pitt starring in it..

  • 4:55 is probably one of the greatest parts of a car chase. He smoked the tires, just using the force from the loose dirt. That takes some real.mothafuckin.skill. Not to mention the whole soundtrack was the 350,351,283, and tires squelching. Quintacental car chase! 25/10.

  • Who the f*ck are these guys!!?

  • One of my favorites! Excellent movie. Great chase. But at 5:47 it seems that they went from driving in LA, to driving in the UK.

  • I had to think more a moment about that one :P

  • I think this is the best film in the history

  • Who the fuck oare these guys?

    Epic-

  • wow. upstanding citizens right there.

  • Nice ride, too bad they don't make them like that no more... :-(

  • No kidding...saw a 1987-1987 Caprice unmarked 9C1 on a used car lot a few weeks back. Clean as a whistle and still had the fleet caps. $4000. But it had been sold. Damn!

  • Wang Chngs relentless music helps this great

    chase.

  • Actually, its both. I know some have their say, but I say this because:

It's impressive because it includes several psychological touches, such as paranoia and the scene of their inner thoughts. And impressive because there are no car jumps, flips, or fancy smancy moves, just two guys doing whatever it takes to escape.

  • One of the great car chases.

It's great how you don't know who is chasing them and more keep coming out of the woodwork. And the silences and short clips of their inner thoughts really add a lot to the sense of exposure and risk the sequence has.

It's funny though, when they're on the freeway they are actually on the right side of the road and all the traffic is headed in the wrong direction on the left side of the road. For some reason they reveresed the normal direction for filming.
