  • I want this video on my DB5000 phone.

  • i am in tears

  • Modesty, wit, sincerity, commitment, humbleness and sooooooo much music quality....HATFIELD AND THE NORTH

  • Wow, truly priceless to those who love this scene, just great!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, truly priceless to those who love this scene, just great!!!!!!!!!

  • Excerpts?! Anyone know if there's a recording of the entire performance anywhere?

  • Brillaint. Love this, timeless.

  • I agree w/ GL. Simply priceless.

  • Splendido e meraviglioso!

  • I'M ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THOSE POETIC GIANTS....you give me strength to write music...you gimme strength to live

  • absolutely wonderful

  • Pure gold!

  • Splendido.. puro "Canterbury Sound"

  • Well, my goodness - what everybody else has said. This is just unbelievable and historic footage. Please let's have some more of it if you've got it!

  • these are some amazingly well thought out jams... might have to nick a few lines eh?

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • @nickbackslash I quite agree - this is really rather wonderful.

  • Dave is playing a B3 or a C3. As for the Rhodes, I don't know where that's coming from.

  • @alanpitfall: I'm guseeing there's a Hohner Pianet somewhere, and that the footage isn't always in synch, but cut for best fit.

  • Doing a Matching Mole song !! Wonderful !!

  • Amazing!

  • Awesomeness!

  • This is INCREDIBLE!

Does anyone know what organ is he playing? I think is the same Caravan used. It's very important please :D

  • @thejazzfunk Possibly Hammond A100.

  • @thejazzfunk I hear a Fender Rhodes piano, but Dave also used tone generators. Neither Caravan nor Hatfield & the North's liner notes give any indication of what kind of organ it was, nor do the liner notes for Egg and National Health. The guess of the Hammond A100 could possibly be correct. Could be a Moog or a Mellotron, also.

  • What is the song at 2:55?

  • best musicians ever!

  • Yes, what mtopper66 said: more, please! What is the source of this material? It seems to be rare early footage (pre-Stewart), and, as this is one of my all-time favorite bands, would love to see/hear more and learn more about this footage. Thanks!

  • wyatt was really brilliant on this, plus he can speak dolphin!

  • MORE. The whole thing, please!!! Don't fade it out just as Wyatt gets nuts!!!!

  • Fantastic. What a place Canterbury must have been to grow up in the late 60's early 70's with the Wilde Flowers, Caravan, the Softs and then Hatfield! Exactly my era, but Taunton had NOTHING!

  • Wow. That's great. Thanks for posting.

  • This is the first I've ever seen or heard this band. Could I ask who is the bass player man? he has a very nice voice. :)

  • Richard Sinclair. If you like his voice you should definitely check out his work with Caravan. He shared vocal duties in that band with Pye Hastings and the two together were unmatched!

  • Thank you. I will listen to that other band as well. I love checking out new music. :)

  • richard sinclair

  • Thank you very much. :)

  • hes worked with caravan and camel too check out breathless by camel

  • Plainly fantastic!Richard in high form and with lots of hair as well!!And Robert spaced out as usual...unique video!

  • Great to see two of my all-time favourite singers together

  • Love this. Check out Circulus people a great british band, totally crazy psych folk.

  • I've checked the Matching mole discography, the hatfield and the north discography...but I can't figure out what song is that from 1.15 on. Can anyone help?

  • Check the Hatfield discography again- "Fol de Rol" from their first record!

  • I saw the Hatfields several times, always inspirational, positive, mesemerising, playful and not forgetting humourous and good-natured. RIP Pip

  • I used to put the album with these songs on and just drift away into another time and space. The strange usual unpredictable concoction of Canterbury Prog & Jazz-fusion was mesmerizing. Very special band for very special taste

  • god song appears somewhere in Matching Mole's material :)

  • Thank you so much! I only had Matching Mole's first album. I have it now thanks to you.

  • This is a crime! God Song is probably one of my favorite H&N songs...but it's neither on their first or second album...What's the deal with that?

    Was it even recorded?

  • I have discovered such incredibly beautiful & personally meaningful music on youtube but I've also discovered a surprising amount of negativity & pointless sniping, etc. Thank you all for being so cool with each other. These tunes inspire such mellow & joyful vibes. I wish more sites could reflect this.

  • A Flock Of Sound......... Robert is ok man!

  • Oh man, what a lineup! With Wyatt being perhaps my favorite drummer and Sinclair being my favorite organ player, then theres the others on top of that.

  • Schitterende opname!

Bestaat het concert ook nog in z'n geheel?

  • Is this "Shavin' si boring?" Isn't it?

  • This is Calyx and some other extracts including a solo section from shaving is boring...

  • ?? Neither of these tunes is included !

It's "God Song", "Fol De Rol", "For Robert" and an unreleased Dave Sinclair tune.

  • I saw David Sinclair play "Fol De Rol" on acoustic guitar in the wayout West at a golf course in Fremont, California several years ago.

This music is timeless and always personal compared to any other band. IMHO.

  • Actually I think you mean *Richard* Sinclair. Cuz I was also at that gig. :-)

  • Sir, you are correct!

You made that Tavern-on-the-Green gig?!!!! Do0d, there was what 30 people [counting barmaids] there that afternoon. It was sublime.

    Noel.

  • Never would havethought one day I would see Richard and Robert singing together, at least not in mortal life ..!

  • that is pretty cool. I'd be equally impressed with Richard singing alongside Kevin Ayers.

  • Do you have the entire footage? I have it but only the music in mp3.

  • Even the music in mp3 would be fantastic! Could you upload it somewhere?

  • I'll try it. Promised. But I have only this song.

  • like to agree with everyone here, this is truly amazing! rare as hens' teeth this one. Dave S. only with them briefly before first album. I'd heard he'd only rehearsed with them. Want to know what it was like back in 73 to be one of about 20 Hatfield fans in the Toronto area? You'd invite folk over and play Hatfield, Henry Cow, Fripp and Eno, Nick Drake and John Martyn and maybe Van Der Graff and they'd go home, minds completely blown.

thanks muchly siroen, the word of gord

  • Absolutely f***ing brilliant!

  • Waaah! I rememember listening to this on John Peel late at night in my teens. Never ever thought I'd ever see video footage of early Hatfield. My all time fave band. Thanks so much for posting..got any more? , please!!????

  • Excuse my ignorance. When did Dave Stewart take over from Dave Sinclair?

  • Sinclair left Hatfield very early on, before the first LP

  • More never before seen classic amazing footage of songs dear to my heart. I actually quite sad being reminded of how beautiful music was in the my golden teenage years. And in such vast variety. It truly was a special time which I deeply miss but feel blessed to have known and experienced. Thank you

  • Exactly my feelings...

  • ok now who has the whole show then??

  • thanks!

  • Where did you get this footage!

I cant believe my eyes; I never thought I would ever get to see Robert before his accident singing with Hatfield!

This is priceless footage from the kings of Canterbury at their prime!!!

  • wow! what a treat! the best voices of Prog/Canterbury. Robert Wyatt and Richard Sinclair. And Dave Sinclair is fantastic on keyboards. I love this video, is it possible to get the whole concert on video? thsnk you Siroen, upload more video like this, please.

  • Sorry harrier43k you got half of it wrong - track 3 is actually "For Robert", and 4 is "A Mewsing", an unreleased Dave Sinclair tune. All this information appeared with the original upload on DailyMotion.

  • I thought everyone might want to know the songs these excerpts are taken from. 1. God's Song Matching Mole's Little Red Record 2. Fol de Rol H.A.T.N self title 3. Lying and Gracing from H.A.T.N. Rotter's Club into unknown jam 4. Calyx from H.A.T.N. self title.

  • wow.

  • Another great upload from Siroen!!! :-D

  • 5 stars, for being so rare at least!

I'm constantly amazed at the stuff that shows up on YT.

  • doesnt get much better than this! One of the only gigs Hatfield did with Dave Sinclair.

  • Good Stuff!Thanks.
