  • Olympic lifters do this without knowing it all the time. They actively resist resistance through a full range of motion. i.e. overhead squats, clean and jerks

  • No, he's not telling you to lift weights to increase flexibility, he's telling you the most efficient way to stretch a muscle is while its contracting - aka the eccentric portion of the movement. Give it a try - you'll find it to be very effective. Start with the first video or get the book "The Genius of Flexibility".
