i love your videos. i have learned SO much just by watching you. You are a great teacher!
One thing i have not been able to figure out is how to make something round -hat maybe-- in a spiral, in half double crochet.
i can do it easily with a single crochet, but i don;t like that stitch too much. and when i try the same thing with a double or half double, it shows a seem, not much like a spiral anymore.
@mrsdreazy05 You can start with how ever many chains as you would like. There is a multiple of 3. What do you want to make. If you are making a baby blanket, you would want a chain of 150-175.
@udon890 How wide you want your scarf is preference. I suggest that you make a chain to the width you are looking for and then crochet your first row. You may end up with extra chain. If you do, you can sew in the extra chain between your stitches.
I have made a toddler hat, v stitch scarf and this stitch in a scarf. Thank you so much I am also going to make a couple of candy canes. Thanks again you do a great job.
Hi Teresa and thank you for your videos! I am inspired to try basic stitches and to work on making scarves. I love the slow motion so I can crochet along with you!
Hi Teresa. I love this stitch and have completed one afghan with it. I made a baby afghan with it as my first project, but, for some reason I started into the 4th chain from the hook, and was only able to skip one chain before the ending double crochet. It turned out straight though. My edges on each side were very straight. Go figure! :) I apparently modified it without realizing. I will email you pictures of my finshed blankets hopefully soon. Thanks again!!! Happy crocheting!
How to crochet a tirangle shawl with this pattern or infact any of your pattern stiches? can u tell me the increase/decreae to attain the shape? thanks!
Almost any stitch can be increased, some are more challenging than others. It is adding additional stitches at the end of each row using the pattern stitch. This one would be adding 2 sets of 3 double crochet in the same stitch or between stitches so you will get the increase. When making a shawl, I always recommend that you start small and work your way larger if you are using the V shape. Starting large and working smaller limits you to 1 long width.
I have a lot of pattern stitches that will work well for a shawl if you are familiar with increasing. I do not have any that specifically create a shawl. I recommend starting at the point and increasing since this will give you more options when it comes to the final edge width.
Hi, Teresa! I can't thank you enough for these postings, as I learn best from videos instead of books. I'd like to use this pattern to make my first baby blanket. Exactly how many should I chain so that the edges come out even (as in your video)? Also, if I want to change colors at the end, which posting should I view for that? Thanks!
ok, question: im in the process of making a blanket, BUT, my edges are uneven. They've become slanted and i don't know how to fix it. I've come so far with it, i really don't want to undo all my work... any suggestions?? thank you sooo much!
Followed instructions and made a scarf. It came out beautiful if I say so myself. :) Thanks for posting. I always learn more. Never have I seen pretty edges, especially rounded.
Hey again, Teresa! I have completed a baby afghan using this stitch, and I have used 6 different colors: Shocking pink, bright yellow, spring green, regular blue, and amethyst purple. My question to you is, should I just follow the washing instructions on the wrapper, because I don't want the colors to bleed, ansd also, how many dryer sheets should I use, because I didn't use baby soft yarn. Thanks again, for this beatiful stitch! Can't wait to hear from you very soon!!
Hi again, Teresa! I've practiced this new shell design, and I was wondering, how many chains should I do for a full size afghan? I've started two baby afghans, and I ran out of yarn for the first one, so I moved onto a second one, which I started with dark amethyst purple, and I am going to make it a rainbow design. I am also usins a smaller size needle for the baby afghans. Thanks again for this new stitch! My mom is so excited that I finally learned something new! Hope to hear from u soon!
The multiple is 3 so you add 3 more chains for each stitch. You could double the amount of chains you are using for the baby afghan and then adjust from there.
Try watching the video again and be sure to count what you are doing. When I first started crocheting, nothing turned out right, hahaha. Take your time!
If you are pretty new to crochet, it may be that you are still developing your own unique tension. It take some practice to make consistent stitches. Sometimes the edges can be tricky. If you crochet in the wrong place, for instance the last double crochet of the shell instead of the last double crochet, your edges may wind up out uneven. If your beginning chain is real loose your edges may be uneven. You can try making a tighter chain on the row change or do a chain 2 instead.
Thank you for these videos :) they are very helpful and they are very easy to follow. Thanks a bunch :)

I appreciate the comment. You can chain 105 for a baby afghan. I will send you the video separately for changing colors.

You are welcome. One thing to remember with edges. A lot of times it is possible to incorporate the main stitch as the edging.

Hi Teresa: What's the best to use for baby afghans? What I see you use on your videos seems soft enough what's the brand?
tbel1ma 2 years ago
Caron yarn is nice and soft.

Follow the instructions on the package. One dryer sheet should be enough.
