  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • seen joan twice at bruces STONE PONEY ASBURY PARK NJ.... ;-) shes smokinnnnnnnn

  • Bruce can sing, but you can tell he wrote this more for her voice than his own. His voice sucks on this. JJ always rocks the house. Just saw her last week and it was by far the best concert I've seen of hers... ever and I've seen a lot!!

  • Oh, Yeah!! Too bad Bruce wasn't able to play to play the character in the mov ie!

  • What is it with Joan and leather? She wore leather in the Runaways in 1976--I know cuz I was there--and here too. Leather girl.

  • Good stuff, awesome!!

  • This is the definition of fucking AWESOME.

  • Great version of the song! :D

  • The movie Light Of Day was originally called Born In The USA. Bruce was asked by Paul Schraeder to use the song Born In The USA in the film. Bruce thought it was inappropriate and wrote Light Of Day to be used in the film. Other posters are referring to Performance rights, what is really at issue here is publishing rights. For instance the songs written by Lennon McCartney were never owned by Lennon or McCartney. They were owned by a publishing company called Northern Songs

    Springsteen owns the

  • the hottest girl and the coolest dude doing a great rock tune together. the singing, the guitar work, the chemistry, terrific. what a treat, relax and enjoy regardless of who you prefer. They are both among the best of the best

  • Springsteen may not be a great singer, but there is no denying that he's the Boss. He's absolutely amazing!

  • @BTBHSOHBOY

Is there something wrong with your ears? Bruce is a great singer.

  • Joan AND Bruce...a dream came true =)

  • Jeez she has screwed this - gotta take your hat off to Bruce - this is so slow he musta felt like he was accompanying his mother....Queen of Rock'n'Roll my candy ass...!!

  • @Homerlarascally fuck off jealous hater

  • @cuteNADA1992 - Wassup, touch a nerve did I....ah well - I think you're confusing me with someone who gives a shit about your opinion.... ;~)

  • @Homerlarascally like it or not she is the queen of rock and she is your queen and i have never seen \ heard of someone who hate Joan Jett or doubt her abilities before you crazy ass !

    so fuck off

  • @cuteNADA1992 :~)))))))))))))))))))) not doubting her abilities - just saying she's naused up this version of a great song. Bruce musta sighed with relief when it was over - I know I did :)

  • @Homerlarascally LOL and i love joan

  • All these years...I never would have thought Bruce had it in him. But I heard him do one solo on Vigilante Man and was impressed. This video confirms it for me...Bruce IS a good lead guitarist, he just holds back/leaves the job to others.

  • @Politcalamity Check out Bruce with Tom Morello playing 'Ghost of Tom Joad', or check out anything at all from '75..... The Boss is THE BOSS for a reason!

  • Bruce maybe the boss

but Joan jett is the QUEEN OF ROCK N ROLL

  • i can't believe how F'in lame the crowd was when Bruce came out.

  • Shut up and listen.

  • People on the Internet can suck the fun out of anything. Here's a video of two of the best artists music has to offer, playing together and having a blast, and all the commenters can do is argue about who owns what and which one should be more honored. Shut up and enjoy the video instead, would ya?

  • The part everyone is missing is: Bruce Springsteen did indeed write Light of Day for the movie Light of Day, however he sold the song to the movie and eventually to Joan Jett. He made a hell of alot of money for selling the song. So in the end it is an honor for him to sing the song he wrote with Joan Jett because he more then likely doesnt own the rights to the song anymore. Everyone needs to enjoy the music and chill out. Joan has alot of respect and love for Bruce thats all that should matter

  • @amazingbella23 I'm chill belive me. Wanted to clarify something though. It's not possible to sell a song to Jett. The songwriter can sell "performance rights." Songwriter maintains "copyright." Songwriter can take away future "performance rights." So the only reason Jett can sing this song is because bruce lets her.

Don't mean any disrespect to Jett. I enjoy this performance and so come back here. But I take umbrage at Jett lover's belittling the Boss for no reason. Enjoy the music!

  • @amazingbella23 also to clarify further. Song writer maintains the right to sell performance rights to as many people as s/he wishes. So anybody that bruce lets sing this song, can sing it. Jett cannot do anything with this song other than sing it.

Again, Jett is great. I like her. Let's enjoy the music.

  • @thefastshuffle I've heard of instances where songwriters have sold all the rights to the song to an artist and sat back and enjoyed the royalties of the song. I have no clue whether Bruce sold her the song or is just letting her use it *shrugs* everyone should just get along and respect both people because they both deserve it. So I agree lets just enjoy the music, its a wonderful song. :)

  • @amazingbella23 Quite wrong. Bruce owns the PUBLISHING rights to all his music. Look up ASCAP. The movie producers pay the royalties to Bruce, whatever amount was negotiated. Bruce has complete control of his music; otherwise he wouldn't have gone through his legal battles with Mike Appel, his former manager, to retain publishing rights. Anytime there's airplay of this song, Bruce gets some $. No difference with any other recording artist.

  • Stone Pony, Asbury Park NJ this song reminds me walking outside after an entire

night of smoke and pure rock and roll energy...

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Totally "epic"

  • Gotta do it with Michael J again.

  • I love the way they both just step into this piece. Totally Awesome.

  • It's a great honour for Bruce.

  • @ZLUGGO How the hell this would have been an honor for Bruce. He started his career before her and received critical and commercial success before her entry. He made legendary albums in his career and hailed as one of the greatest songwriter ever while Joan jett even didn't have a single song to compare to Bruce. With all respect its Joan's huge honor to share a stage with Bruce

  • @aceNdiamond

    So what?

It's an honour for Bruce, like I said.

  • @ZLUGGO like i said, i dont think so...

  • @aceNdiamond

    Well, I don' t care.

  • @ZLUGGO yeah,... real honor for bruce, to sing his own song. You make about as much sense as ... never mind. I can tell... you don't care

  • @ZLUGGO Are you kidding???? It's the other way, dude

  • @ZLUGGO Yeah, but he should have just playeed guitar. The man can write a song, but surely can't sing one! Joan will forever be the best! <3

  • @TheAlxxHydeShow I m Sorry!! Go and watch Bruce perform this with the band on the LIve in New York dvd, from the reunion tour (1999 thru 2001). When he is a guest or has people guest on his tours the one thing does not do is 'take over', if you see that as him being a weak singer, you've obviously never seen him live.

  • HOLY SHIT, HOW HAD I NEVER HEARD OF THIS. ROCK!

  • Bruce is too cool, way too cool

  • Bruce wrote this song just for Joan Jett when this song came out. She said this moment playing with Bruce was the highlight of her career.

  • Amazing...

I thought Bruce'll burn those stacks with his solo...

    Like'em, both.

  • my computer cant handle this much awsome

  • FRicken awesome!!!

  • I think bruce looks good with the hat

  • I like the movie version better

  • Two great tastes that taste great together.

  • Joan is a better singer.

  • joanie got her HOLEY SHIT face on watching brucie ripping out the solo........gary on bass and the smithereens drummer!!!

  • Joan Jett N the Blackheart are great and you too Bruce ... Wow !!! :)

  • Joan Jett rock the shit out of any song =)

  • i think bruce is way cooler than joan

  • everybody has good and bad days, just enjoy :)

    Joan Jett is HOT.. lol.

  • Wow, I'm a huge Bruce fan and he sounds terrible here. But you can tell he's not trying to steal the show here, unless he's trying something new and it's not working.

  • My hero!

  • A classic road song!!

  • AWESOME!!! Thx for posting :-)

  • What's up with Bruce? He's not even trying to sing...just kind of yelling...Joan's blowing him away.

  • he's singing off-key....she sings and plays MUCH higher than he does.

  • Brilliant duo

  • my uncle is his limo driver!! love joann

  • Bruce rules (this song in '88, wooooo)

and Joan Jett is pretty damn awesome too!

I'd love see the two of 'em with Mike Ness joining in! Be a dream trio....

  • Would have been better without Bruce.

  • BROOOOOOOOOCE!!!!

  • Bruccccceeeee!

  • Followed Joan jett for years, great music always!

  • That woman could sing the phone book and make it rock.

  • @boterobabe

    lmmffao

  • @boterobabe

    And you know this!! LMAO...

  • More like Joan kick's Bruce's ass on HIS OWN SONG!

  • @SyvetheShairks

Yep!! Joan is just the BEST! While all these others (used to be hot hall of fame inductees) are in their rockers and only get on stage to flex their fame once in awhile, she is out there rock n' rollin', stayin' on top of her game! Say what?! Ya heard me!

    Go on Joan!!

  • yeah they are...and thats a fact...still kickin major ass!!!

  • they are great!

  • ZAP!!

  • I love bruces song especially light of day

    awesome job

  • you should a done

    100 miles

    200 miles

    300 miles

    400 miles

    500 miles

  • and so on

  • Why does this song sound so much like Mellencamps "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A"?

  • Dude, where do you get off talking about Joan!!! She kicks ASS!!! I like Springsteen too, but you have no idea what the hell your talking about!!!! JOAN JETT KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!

  • YEAH!!! JOAN YOU'RE GREAT!

  • How could you compare joan jett to the boss when it comes to singing and performing, bruce is in a leauge of his own and anybody who knows what music is would agree and how could you say its not the type of song that he should sing when he is the one who wrote it, you can only write something that you can sing! Bruce and the e street band perform this much better live then joan jett

  • How con you compare them like they are rivals? They seem to be friends to me. At the end of the vid he even said "Joan Jett is great". So is the boss so great he's not aloud to have friends. Sounds like what you are saying to me. That would lead to a lonely life that would end up in a Kurt Cobain kind of way.

  • I appologize for my opinion, but to me Joan Jett was and is a much better singer than Springstein.

  • Oh yeah...everybody has a right to their own opinion..but where is Joan????...

and where is Bruce...selling out concerts and still on the charts!

  • Talent rarely has anything to do with chart success and ticket sales. See: Britney, et al.

  • @EdwoodCA I agree 200%. See also: Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga!! PUKE!!!

  • Joan Jett ROCKS !!!

I think shes even better than she back then.

    :)

ps: It's really not that type of song Bruce should sing! LOL ;)

  • she really looks lesbian here, but there's a reason

  • Had a tough day, came back to the video, now I feel better and have a smile.

    Thanks.......again!

  • Springsteen's vocals are fine on this, same as any time he would play or sing this song, don't know what your talking about man.

  • Gad - Can't believe how awful Springsteen's vocals are on this! Great performer but man! Awful on this.

  • how dare u diss the boss!

  • very cool

  • that's fuckin R&R, they are both great, Bruce is my R&R idol though, Joan kicks ass.

  • Bruce is trying so hard to outsing Joan that he just comes off sounding awful. I like Bruce, but this is horrid on his part.

  • a crazy duet...rock forever

  • Wow, I have never seen Bruce shred like that!

  • I keep coming back to this video. What a great combination.

Thanks you so much for posting!

  • Bruce is a great writer, I won't deny that. However, singing wise, Jett has a much stronger voice and makes him sound a little bad here. That said, it's just fun to watch these two share a stage.

  • @hldn1977 he is already amazing to sound this good at the age of 52..

  • Amazing Performance!

Is that Dennis Diken (Smithereens) on drums?

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • From a fans perspective, this is what it's all about, watching awesome musicians giving respect to each other & working together vs. bands breaking up & cancelled tours due too big ego's & directional disagreements.

    Thanx for posting

  • wow I love this......Bruce rocksmmmmmmmmmm

  • everyone who says springsteen is merely a good songwriter sucks! sooo underrated guitarist!!

  • This just kicks my ass!

  • Springsteen also wrote "Fire" for the Pointer Sisters, "Pink Cadillac" for Natalie COle, and "Cover Me" for Donna Summer.

  • He ended up keeping "Cover Me" for himself so he gave her a song called "Protection". Hungry Heart was gonna go to the Ramones but Jon Landau advised against it.

  • Don't forget he wrote "This Little Girl" for Gary US Bonds which was a hit too.

  • I'd include "Because the Night" for Patti Smith. It was intended for "Darkness on the Edge of Town" (1978) but didn't make the cut - imagine the songs that *are* on that album.

Patti was recording in the same studio, heard the song and told Bruce how much she liked it. Bruce was, and is a big admirer of Patti & gave her the song to record, and something more important: Co-authorship, even though she made only minor wording changes. Bruce plays it live. Watch the 1978 version that's 7:28.

  • Bruce!!!!!!!!!! The King!!!!

  • Very cool.... might have been the high point of Bruce's life too.... I know playing with Joan Jett would be for me..

  • Comment removed

  • The Motley Crue/Joan Jett comparison to Bruce/Beatles -- I completely disagree. They both have their niches - I don't want to get into a thing - but personal preference is Joan for a lot of reasons that may be interpreted as a slam against Bruce and I don't want to do that.

  • @brassknuckles77 high point of bruce's life??? yeah,... i don't think so

here's how it's really done, by the heart stoppin, earth shakin', history makin,... East Street Band

    watch?v=yFu80Et9sUQ

  • @thefastshuffle Yes, you're right, it must have been such a drag for him, I know famous rock stars do shit they don't wanna do ALL the time, it's what being rich and famous is all about.

  • @brassknuckles77 Actually, it probably was a drag for him. People are always singing his songs in public and requesting his appearances and then saying how much it means to them. and then jett lovers say that it must have been an honor for bruce. It's a drag cause it's incomprehensible. It's impossible. It's a bloody drag

  • Pretty cool.

That had to be the high point of Joan Jett's life.

What a dead audience though! Jeeez, folks, just take a nap through it, why don't you...

  • Considering this was just over a month after 9/11, it is understandable why people are still a little solemn.
