It actually is a measurement of how many pixels fit vertically on the screen, 240 being 240 pixels vertically accross the screen, and 1280 being 1280 pixels vertically

IT DOES NOT AFFECT AUDIO AT ALL

The audio is based on its original sound format, but usually is changed to whatever youtube uses, and has a constant bitrate NO MATTER THE VIDEO QUALITY

I have talked to a tech expert about this issue, and plain as day, they are the SAME EXACT SOUNDS the only difference (as i have now learned after you starting this flame war) is that at 720 it sends the mp4 format of the sound, whereas less than 720 its flv, but THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME sound has no variable quality as pixel density, because everyone hears differently, and without some sort of super computer youll never tell the difference
