at the time, this touareg had worn down summer tires... not really meant to have high off road performance. however, if you put good offroad tires on a touareg, it will be able to surprise most. if you didnt already know, the touareg shares the same chassis as the porsche cayenne which has been known to keep up with range rovers off road. not only that, this chassis does rather well on the track ;)

Geeze people! I used to own a BMW, my dad has an older Mercedes ML320, step mom has a newer RX350, brother has an Acura RDX.. I'm very well versed in the luxury SUV crossover market and can say with great ease that the Touareg is the ONLY vehicle in that manufacturer list which was designed from the ground up with TRUE offroad abilities in mind - center/rear diff lock, amazing approach/depart/breakover angles, air suspension, 20" water crossing, 11" ground clearance, 7700lb tow rating, etc.

Lexus RX is crap. Rough ride, roly-poly handling, understeer...... it can't compete with any German SUV.

auto diff and high are used in normal driving. they are both part of what you use the at the same time for normal driving. the locking differentials are used to make sure that all of the tires are getting power in rough conditions.
