  • Used to live here LOL-what a 'grand place lass'.

  • Cheers Julie, it's a lovely area (even when its wet!)

  • Do the Class 47's at the rear actually do any helping, or are they just pulled as a dead weight, and there for breakdowns?

  • Sometimes they are there to speed things up to shunt the rolling stock at the destination and sometimes as a bit of insurance. If I remember rightly this one was there to assist if required up Miles Platting bank.

  • Great Video , Same about the Weather lol did u bring your brolly with you

  • Thanks, yes I managed to wedge the end of the brolly in the tripod so kept pretty dry all day

  • i know what you mean last year when i was on the fellsman my camrea got ruied because of all the rain ! lol damn you mother nature

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Cheers, that was one of the worst days I've filmed in, rain from morning till night.

  • I love this video.

Does anyone know the train numbers of any other steam trains still running that were built at Horwich loco works, Bolton.

  • Thanks Mark, glad you like the video and hope someone can help you with the Horwich built locos.

  • Try these: 42700, 44932, 50621 (1008), 51218, 11243, 52322 (1300).

Horwich also built 3F 0-6-0Ts, Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0s and 8F 2-8-0s, but not the ones preserved.

    Excellent film, by the way!

  • Fantastic train 76079, sounds great, real good chuffer. I do some contract work at the old Horwich, Bolton Loco Works and if you look carefully a few train tracks and bits are still around in the tarmac and flags. Oh how I wish I was around when this train was being built but I was just a twinkle in my mums eye in 1957. I was born 1960 and can only just remember the odd journey on a steam train as a small boy. Anyway ELR and others are doing a smashing job of keeping steam alive.

  • Thanks, quite a bit of history at the Horwich Works, great engine 76079, not called the 'pocket rocket' for nothing!!

  • Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it.

  • great vid and lovely whistle 5*

  • Cheers, horrible day but nice for steam.

  • Great vid Austin but I think 76079 thinks it's a Naval Destroyer!!!

"Give the order to make smoke Number One!!"

It certainly hangs in the valleys of Saddleworth. 5* anyway.

  • Thanks David, yes it was a good day for a spot of smoke, it must have hung in the air for ages after the train had passed.

  • Yeah it looked like it lol.

  • Very good video 5*. Plays back beautifully in HD full screen. Takes a lot of CPU resources though!

  • Thanks very much. I'm surprised that it takes up a lot of resources as the file was only

100MB, the same as my none HD material!

  • Used CPU resources can leap to over 90%

  • well done A++++++++++

  • Cheers, glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thats one `sure footed` little bugger of a loco. With 7 stock and a DIT 57 must be equivalent to load 10! WOW!!!!!!

  • Quite agree, she did have one of, if not THE top driver in Bill Andrew so a lot of skill and experience on the footplate.

  • Thanks Steve, this is the great thing about YouTube I think, if you can't get out yourself you can be sure someone has posted something so you don't miss out.

  • Another good quality production. It is easy to get to Sough Tunnel by train then by foot?

  • Thanks very much. I'm not sure how easy it is on foot but I suspect there may be a bus from Darwen that goes fairly close.

  • Thanks Austin for another fine vid -- especially in miserable conditions. Mike

  • Many thanks Mike, yes horrible day but 76079 helped brighten the spirits

  • Once again a joy to watch. Great video and sound filmed with your usual expertise. Chris

  • Thanks Chris, even though it was wet and miserable, at least there was no wind to spoil things.

  • What can i say, enjoyed it as usual

  • Thanks Vic, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Very nice camera work and editing! Very enjoyable.

  • Thank you, horrible day here but I was glad I went out to film.

  • I think steam in this kinda weather is great; the steam condenses better and the sound also carries better. Also you don't have the back-lighting problem like on a sunny day. But sunny days are never a bad thing either.

  • Another brilliant production Austin, the quality on this HD footage is astonishing!..I can't wait for the next one..no pressure.:o)...5*+...Bob

  • Many thanks Bob, hopefully the next one won't involve me doing a balancing act with the umbrella!!

  • Cracking Austin ! Links up with mine again ! We must get this right sometime and have a brew ! I wondered who was as mad as i was on the bridge! great clip..............Matt.

  • Thanks Matt, it was worth going out for I think, sorry to hear about your camera, hope it recovers soon.
