  • By the way -- looking forward to see what you do with the SecNav role in NCIS.

  • As a project manager, and previously, as a project management consultant, this episode has so many lessons for and example of reality in my profession. I love this clip as an example of what we call "project chicken" - hoping someone else is further behind than I am. Another scene I wish there was a clip of (for me to share with my PM peers) is the one where the young engineer comes to your character afraid to tell you of a mistake he made. Too many managers don't do what your character does.

  • @fspatrick I'm quite familiar with the scene. It was beautifully played by both actors. By the way, you may be confusing me with Matt Craven who is the lead actor in the Grumman scenes. Matt is an extraordinary actor and it was an honor to work with him.

  • @JohnDrew2 Sorry for the confusion. The strange thing is I then looked you up on wikipedia and the picture of you there with gray hair, beard, and glasses was like I was looking in a mirror when my hair was a bit shaggier. See plus.google.com/111286715836499753563/posts

  • Thank you for being a part of making this. I loved every episode.

  • this episode really hit home with me. my father was deeply involved in the space program from the early 60's to late 80's when he retired. the nature of his work involved design, testing and proofing systems and components so they could handle the stress of launch and space flight. the time they spent doing all of this was totally lost on a kid as they grow up so of course we couldn't understand the nature of his work. to see this particular episode really does hit home.

  • Wow - it's great to find someone who actually worked on this amazing series - I got it for my 16th birthday (I'm 16 now), and it has been truly inspiring. Some of the scenes, a lot of which were in the 'Spider' episode, could really bring a tear to the eye. I salute you, and everyone else in the films - this is really great filming. I've made my own rendition of part of the Apollo 17 episode, and will probably make more in the future. Once again, this is great!

  • This was probably my favorite episode, with the second one being "Is that all there is?"

  • This was a GREAT miniseries! I am of course a big fan of all the Tom Hanks HBO films, but this one is one of my favorites. The "Spider" episode is perhaps the best in this series. It gives people a good look at the unsung hero's of the Apollo program, and the hard work they did to make it happen. And that's not to mention the many other thousands of people who worked just as hard to send man to the Moon. What a honor you had to work on this miniseries, I wish I were you!

  • It truly was an honor. And I agree with you about Episode V. It put a very human persona on the Apollo Program. The people in Bethpage, NY who designed and developed the LM were regular guys--although highly educated aeronautical engineers--who took on a project which had a scope that was, at the time of inception, totally incomprehensible. And they pulled it off.

  • @JohnDrew2 Very true -almost half a million people working on all aspects of Apollo meant that situations like this were concurrently happening at all the major aerospace firms & thier subcontractors. 1960 -67 saw industry and science making shared breakthroughs of invention in computer science, chemistry, welding, metalurgy, fabrication, space medicine, space travel logistics and so on.

The only other time the U.S. made that type of technological leap was probably over the course of World war 2.

  • I agree... and not because I was in it. I thought it was a combination of extraordinary casting, story line, lighting, cinematography and truly exceptional direction by Graham Yost. Graham and Director of Photography Gale Tattersall, and line producer Terry Odem did a spectacular job in moving the story forward. Of course, there were many, many people from production assistants to Tom Hanks who made the series so extraordinary. It was an honor and the thrill of a lifetime to be a contributor.

  • This might have been the best episode of the miniseries.
