@TheRocksPage SmackDown! has been TV-PG for most of its run, but RAW was TV-14 until it went HD. That was around 2008. The Ruthless Aggression Era was the bridging point, and arguably the strongest era. While the storylines weren't as campy as the Attitude Era, the wrestling and ring psychology improved significantly, and the promos were still great. I guess the barrage of WCW talent helped.
This says it all. I run into too many trolls around here who think that wrestlers are just roided up bad actors play-fighting, that if they got into a real fight they'd start crying like babies "Waaaa, don't hurt me, don't hurt me!". You think they're not real athletes? Try lacing up their boots.

Like you said, no close fists but the other strikes like the slaps and kicks hurt and most of the moves are real. Sure there are some tricks to avoid injury to sensitive areas like the neck or the knees but most wrestling maneuvers have you landing on your back and nothing's fake about that. I dare anyone not only to go to camp but to waste hours perfecting the craft and to travel 300 days a year.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 - it was not just one wrestler. . .but alot of wrestlers. . .of course their situations didn't go nearly as bad as Chris Benoit's situation, but there were problems. As I recall, even Vince McMahon got freaked out by what happened and did mandatory roids tests on WWE superstarts - he took the ones who tested positive for roids off the roster for a while. So yeah - there were problems - I imagine many of them were not widely advertized to the public.

It was good when I was a kid but as time went on it just seemed like it was the same G-Rated wrestling with each wrestler's character watered down to the point of PBS-worthy programming. The last good match in WCW happened in 1997 Sting vs. Hulk Hogan for the World Title strap. After that, it was all bullshit. Overall though I always liked WWF (WWE) a lot more. But now a days it seems like it's all gotten G-rated and like the later WCW days.
@JohnTheBaptist87 not to mention every ECW wrestler that came to WCW got watered down, and they used RUBBER barbed wire in their barbed wire matches.... and Sandman's name got changed to Hardcore Hak and he wasn't hardcore what so ever. Overall, ECW is probably my all time favorite... before Vince bought it out anyway. WCW had it's good times, but not nearly as many as ECW or WWF. Plus little girls being hired to cry for the Hulk Hogan heel turn was really cheesy.

@grownman455 My bad, I mean't STAGED. Yes there's a fine line between FAKE and STAGED. Like you said, no close fists but the other strikes like the slaps and kicks hurt and most of the moves are real. Sure there are some tricks to avoid injury to sensitive areas like the neck or the knees but most wrestling maneuvers have you landing on your back and nothing's fake about that. I dare anyone not only to go to camp but to waste hours perfecting the craft and to travel 300 days a year.

. . .and unfortunately it was not in the ring but at a home of a popular wrestler who murdered his wife, his child and then committed suicide - I think you know who I'm talking about. This was only of the few tragedies that happened during the attitude era (there were other deaths) and I think that is the reason why Vince McMahon is reluctant to revive that era.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 - it was not just one wrestler. . .but alot of wrestlers. . .of course their situations didn't go nearly as bad as Chris Benoit's situation, but there were problems. As I recall, even Vince McMahon got freaked out by what happened and did mandatory roids tests on WWE superstarts - he took the ones who tested positive for roids off the roster for a while. So yeah - there were problems - I imagine many of them were not widely advertized to the public.

It was good when I was a kid but as time went on it just seemed like it was the same G-Rated wrestling with each wrestler's character watered down to the point of PBS-worthy programming. The last good match in WCW happened in 1997 Sting vs. Hulk Hogan for the World Title strap. After that, it was all bullshit. Overall though I always liked WWF (WWE) a lot more. But now a days it seems like it's all gotten G-rated and like the later WCW days.

@JohnTheBaptist87 not to mention every ECW wrestler that came to WCW got watered down, and they used RUBBER barbed wire in their barbed wire matches.... and Sandman's name got changed to Hardcore Hak and he wasn't hardcore what so ever. Overall, ECW is probably my all time favorite... before Vince bought it out anyway. WCW had it's good times, but not nearly as many as ECW or WWF. Plus little girls being hired to cry for the Hulk Hogan heel turn was really cheesy.

cena can very well have some attitude himself believe me i seen his firtst match it was against kur angle he had BALLS no doubt about it. but is those damn PG ratings thats keeping the good stuff from coming out there is not going to be another attitude era because theres not alot of wrestling fans as there used to be the attitude era is going to come back in one of 2 ways 1.tna because like wcw was and on mondays and beats raw in ratings or 2.wwe loses so much viewers that brings back that era
