Billy was talking about himself, as he was Bonney (not Bonny). Extract from wikipedia:

I don´t understand a part of the lyrics, may be some of you guys from native english language country can explain me.

Well, I understand that "Patty Garrett" is how he used to call his friend, so why in the part that talks abous a dream, he says "I knew the name Bonny would be marked on that grave" ? What the hell the name "Bonny" has to mean with "Patty Garret"? Is just another way he used to call his friend or is this some expression (slang, jargon) used in english?
