a bit dissapointed at peoples comments below slating him for his personality not being exciting. The subject is about how to make good quality samples for music production and the guy knows the facts. if you dont like it fuck off and watch Ant and Dec or something!
Well... it's just like 2 sides of a coin. We've seen some technical thingies and explanations here. And we've seen more fiddling about with different stuff in the other video.
No disrespect intended, but this guy makes sound design seem as exciting as watching a box of rocks. The guy in part 2 has a personality and actually seems enthusiastic which makes it way more inspiring.
@SuperTruthPrevails That's funny because I was about to make a video about watching a box of rocks as a meditation aid, but it seems there is no need.
TBH, it comes across a bit dry, which doesn't mean it isn't interesting, just that maybe you're a better sound designer than a teacher :o) (no disrespect) I guess a lot of people don't have the patience to really notice all the info you're actually giving, most are probably interested in what you did the last 5 minutes, more hands-on. Still, I found it very interesting and you're obviously a great snd-designer. Thanks for your time to record this to help us too! cheers!
@Usethebanana I agree, but I think the problem is people aren't listening to it on studio monitors, rather than just impatience. If you just listen to it on headphones or laptop speakers, there's a lot less to be heard. Personally I found it really helpful. While it may not be the most engaging video, I can't imagine trying to convey this information any other way.
I do this kind of thing all the time. He doesn't produce a very interesting sound, of course, that's just my opinion. But this is a great example of recording your own samples. He creates his own stereo image by using two mics, I'm assuming a small condenser and a large condenser cardioid mic. You don't have to record like this per se, especially if you're using a field recorder, you could always create a stereo image later. All in all, a very good example of custom sound design.

Ah happy days. two mics. a ringy thing and a soft beater.
and in this way great techno is made. What a joyful job.
Good to see that Cyclick do the same frequency analysis steps as the rest of us.
Thanks for sharing.
