@DESiiREx3 basic premise is that a lesbian girl named kanako, who hates men to the point of being allergic to their touch, goes to an all-girl's school. she meets the most popular girl in her year, the titular blonde-haired mariya, and she's thoroughly convinced it's true love. a few hives and walking in on a partially clothed mariya later, she finds out mariya's a guy. aside from her friends/"harem", there's no romance, just lots and lots of schadenfreude that focuses on kanako.

I still prefer YMO's original 1983 version of the song, but at least Maria Holic deserves credit for reviving the old-school classic. While YMO are still well known in Japan, most of us outside of Japan have forgotten about the band that pioneered electro music and inspired contemporary hip hop. Some of the music YMO made back in the late 70s and early 80s were well ahead of their time.
