I had my cystoscopy last friday, 20 Jan 2012, but I got a problem now. I lost the urge to pee, it seems like I don't feel that urge to go pee anymore. Anyone experienced that after the cystoscopy?? Please let me know. Thank you.
I had one a few weeks ago and i would watch the screen haha i thoguht it stung at first but after was just uncomfortable and stung again when taking it out. Im so squeamish URGH lol and it hurt to wee a few days after
I had this done today, with a flexible cord, it hardly hurt at all!! Could hardly tell it was inside me, only pain was passing the prostate but that was only a few seconds... Overall pain rating 3/10, felt more uncomfatable of the feeling of needing to go toilet but only lasted a few mins so was ok.
Based on my first experience the uro offered me the GA because he said that if I am comfortable then it is better for both him and me. I am not traumatized and he is able to get a better look-see. But if I am moving and squirming then it is more difficult for him and could cause me more pain.
This procedure is nothing but TORTURE--pure and simple!!!! I had this done twice. The first time was about 2 years ago with just a sedative and numbing gel. I can tell you it was just like dying a SLOW DEATH. I moaned, I groaned, I yelled!!!! The doc and nurse kept saying "1 more minute". I said I don't have 1 more minute. Can't bear it. They couldn't keep me held down any longer so they terminated the procedure. Second time 3 months ago was a breeze with a general anesthesia
i just had one today slept like a baby thru the whole thing:D they gave me a shot of some sort i was asleep in like 20 seconds:D i was scared before but when i started to get dizzy i said ah just screw it
rherman is right, I had it done a few days ago, it wasnt that bad, 3 seconds of a slight stinging sensation inside as he was inserting the scope, piece of cake! although he did have to special order an extra long scope for me.
I have had two. I would highly recommend not getting sedation or general anesthesia. These narcotics can cause you not to urinate as they can really do a number on the prostate. Then you're looking at a catheter. The fortunate part is the pain is for a very short time. As for people who did not have pain, you are lucky because it was hell and everyone I know that has had one says the same thing.
I'm 18 and had this done today. Was nothing. Don't be worried about it people. Had a gastroscopy, colonoscopy and cystoscopy in the past 3 months and the cystoscopy was nothing. Had no sedation or anything. Forget going to sleep
Had this done today and it wasn't as bad as I expected but there were a few seconds which were HORRIBLE. The doctor said something about "prostate" and there was pain along with an indescribably awful feeling. Like I said though - it only lasted seconds. It's been burning when I pee since but I can cope with that.
To be honest the worst part was the indignity of lying there with my boaby out.
I was 11 years old when I had this (I have PBS), I had it done under anesthetics, I woke up and I was in PAIN! I don't recommend having this done awake.
I've had 6 cystos (recent one was done for ureteral stent insertion back on June 1st), and every time I've had it done, it's been under GA (thankfully). There is NO way I would want to be awake for it. I also have interstitial cystitis, so my bladder is normally 'angry' and painful. More power to you if you can stay awake (ie: under conscious sedation). For me though it's a cocktail of miracle drugs: Propofol, Versed and Fentanyl:) PS: After your cysto, DON'T be afraid to ask for pain meds.
Can someone please comment what we see and what part? And at 1:53 is that an ulcer or smthing? I mean is everyhting okay here with the bladder? Thanks....
@TADGELL It wan't bad at all. The nurse came in and injected Lidocaine into my urethra and put a clamp on my penis to keep the anesthetic inside.
The doctor came in, inserted the scope up to my bladder.
When the saline was put in, I really had to pee, it took about a minute to relax and the doctor finished. It didn't hurt at all. However, it did hurt a little when i had to pee a few hours after the procedure.

Hope my post doesn't scare anyone. I should of mentioned that the 10 minute procedure is nothing at all to worry about. It's just that the very first Cystoscopy I had done was done by a shocking doctor who took a biopsy & because I bled so much & had to be taken into hospital immediately by the ambulance due to the severe blood loss. So ever since then I was always scared that would happen again. Although if I didn't have that 1 bad experience then they wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
I have been getting Cystoscopies done yearly for the past 8 to 10 years. I'm a C4 Quadripleic & have been a quad for 22 years, im only 35 years old. The first time I had a Cystoscopy was a nightmare, about a week after the op I started peeing straight blood and my bathroom looked like a murder seane, I hated them ever since that coz it almost killed me.
I had my last cystoscopy on the 10th March 2010 & thank God my bladder looked the best it has and I no longer need to have these done.
I gotta have this done in a couple of weeks. There is a part of me that just wants to say fuck it and have them do it while im awakw. 15 minutes of pain but at least i don't get knocked out and i can talk to the doc about whats up. But after reading some of these comments i might just want to get knocked out. Plus i get to take a day out of work so that's always a plus.
4 weeks ago, i had a cystoscopy.. And you nothing to worry about.. Even if you don't get knocked out, you get a local anesthesia and some antobiotics before procedure... Except feeling of discomfort, there is no pait.. + You have simple one, in my case, they filled me up with somekind of fluid 'till my kidney started to hurt... Doctor said that he needs to take a 'snapshot' of my left kidney and left ureter.. And, now i'm healty 110% .. Btw, i'm 19 yrs old
Good to know man. I really rather just get the local anesthesia because your in and out in like 15 minutes. Plus i don't gotta make another appointment and take a day out of work, i can just get it done on the spot and talk to the doc. He wanted to do this to me a year ago and i been going through hell for the past year. After he does it, if he can fix me and ill be saying i should have sucked it up a year ago lol.

@RunOut1724 I had one an hour ago. It's not even 15 minutes of pain, not even 5. Sure, It hurted a bit and I sweared, but nothing to get Knocked out for...really. Don't listen to eveyone on here.
many thanks.... Well, i had surgery on 27th january this year.. What is interesting, in my religion (Eastern Orthodox), that day is dedicated to Saint Sava, who is saint-protector of school and students (i mean, i go to school, i don't know word in English). Im in final year of high school. If i were in US, i would be called a 'sennior'...i think.. Many regards
That is interesting. What are the chances the surgery fell on that day? So your pretty young too then if you would be a senior. I'm only 26 and i have been dealing with prostate/urinary issues for almost 2 years now. Again i wish you the best.
@Paun991 Ah i still got prostate issues, goin to Boston Med...hopefully the urologist up there knows something. Most annoying problem ever! Especially if you love beer. Piss all the fucking time!
I had one 3 years ago and there is nothing to worry about, there is no pain at all, If you are having one done, again there is nothing to worry about pain or effects after is completed. btw my age is 30
just had it done yesterday at my doctors's office. it is normal to get scared, but dont worry i only felt burning sensation for 2 seconds, thats it!! I was scared when I saw the instrument that they used, but like I said no pain at all. The only thing you will feel is feeling of urinating.
just had it done. im a male guys. good news it lasts 2 minutes! bad news it hurts quite alot going in and coming out. only about 5 seconds in total. good luck
i had this 2 hours ago..im feeling pain n irritation as well now n im having frequent urination as my doc told me to drink plenty of water to remove this irritation
Update: I got the cysto done today. The docs kept saying to me "Oh it doesnt hurt, Its nothing to worry about." I was really nervous because its the only thing Ive had done where I wasnt put out. I was put on a bed where you put your legs on supports and the doc came in and did his prep. Then I seen this huge needle thing (12 inches)! Anyway, as they were doing the cysto, I felt as tho someone took a wire brush up there and it didn't subside until hours later! I never wanna have that done again!
just had this done 2 hours ago. i think the shooting of the numbing jelly was the worst part. the only other painful part was when passing the prostate(though it was a pretty sharp pain for like 5 seconds). on the way out it was painless. now i'm peeing razor blades, but no blood.
I am having this done soon. I cancelled my appointment the day before I was supposed to go last time because the mere thought of some doctor I hardly know even being down around my privates scares me. The doctor didn't tell me I could have general anesthesia, so I'm guessing it might be just local anesthesia :( I see him again tomorrow and I know he will re-schedule the cystoscopy. I've had hundreds of UTI's so it's for the best, but I'm just not sure...
I had this done 2 weeks ago. I was not sedated and it was horrible. Not exactly painful, though there was some pain, more extreme fear and very uncomfortable. Entry was a bitch....and the anaesthetic cream they syringe in first, well....! Very sore for 5-6hrs after but the memory will make you shudder every time you think of it (for the next couple of days).
Or have it done in the office, get a local anesthetic, have the procedure done within 2 minutes, talk to the doctor about the findings, then go home... all within 20 minutes of checking in, and still be fine to go about your day like nothing happened. And all you have to pay is a fraction of what it would cost to get it done at a hospital. So your choice... less than 2 minutes of minor discomfort in your region or long lasting pain in your pocket.
It takes more or less 2 min. Yeah you can have this under general anesthesia, but you will be in a hospital getting a full work up. Be put under general anesthesia, have it done, then you wake up all groggy and have to wait about an hour in recovery room until your vitals return to normal, then have someone else drive you home where you end up just sitting around unable to do anything for the rest of the day, and end up paying thousands of dollars for the room, doctor, anesthetist, and drugs
I had this done couple of days ago. I cant comment on if it hurts or not as i was asleep (general) they wanted to do it with the numb cream stuff 3 weeks ago but i was to scared! lol im 26!
After having it done under general they removed a stricture (cut it) i think they have something attached to the cystoscopy. I woke up with a catherter, when they removed that IT HURT due to being cut (urethra)I ADVISE ALL MEN TO HAVE THIS UNDER GENERAL! SLEEP THROUGH IT! so what if women call us wimps! :)
that looks like it would be horribly painful. if i end up having to get this done i'd rather be out for it. i had a catheter put in last week and I thought that was the worst pain i've ever felt.
I've had this done 3 times by 3 different doctors and I was put to sleep all 3 times. I don't know if being female has anything to do with it. Twice it was done in the hospital and once in a surgical center.
My dad who also went to the same urologist as me had it done while he was awake and it was done in the office.
I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis chronic inflammation of the bladder. For years I thought it was infections but it wasn't.
They're experimenting with 3D Scans these days, but they're only in a few select locations.
I'm not looking forward to having this done next Tuesday. The urologist said "discomfort is to be expected, but the pain is minor" I'm glad I'll be taking the day off from work.
Felt like I should update. It hurt somewhat, but it was when they passed through the valves - it felt like getting punched in my insides. Burning was very minor. The most uncomfortable part was knowing there was a tube should up my front end. Very little pain.
The first time was agony. No ceremony, just ram it in. The second time was with a different surgeon. He took a minute or two to use a syringe to inject some numbing gel into the penis, then coated the end of the scope with lubricant and chemistry. Very uncomfortable, but not painful. Also, no post-scope bleeding the second time. ....Just depends who is doing it !
Just had my procedure done, was not as bad as i thougtht, only part that was bad was when it went by prostate, or as the doctor called it a sphincter, before i could laugh at that i felt a sharp pain for about 3 seconds, then after that it was ok, what a relief. I think it just differ's for some people depending on how bad their condition is, fortunately mine was not that bad.
Get knocked out. It was horrible - the numbing gel is a joke. An extremely cruel and painful joke. I had to be held down and I am a toughie. It was sheer hell. I don't want to be dramatic but it was like reverse peeing a knife and then having it wiggled around. I was peeing straight blood and wanting to die the whole rest of the day.
I just went though on of these procedures recently. I wish the Doctor was a bit more honest. I was angry the whole F**KING day. I'd rather do the prostate exam 7 days a week before I did this again. NOW I understand why men don't go to the doctor. Getting knocked out is fantastic advise. I actually feel traumitized.
I did it yesterday. Don't be freaked out. It is very uncomfortable. Good thing is that it is over in a few minutes pending on why you are doing it. BREATH.
Guys...first let me say I am NOT squeamish and if you have to have this done...then you have to have this done...no way around it really...I had my cystoscopy last Oct '08 and though I can stand most discomfort this was the single worst, most unpleasant 15 minutes of my life. Those that say they have had it and there's no pain must be dead at the waist...and yes I had the pain gel...I NEVER, repeat NEVER want to go through this again. Sorry to be so frank, but that was my experience.
I have this done every three months (since Sept. 07) Hardly any discomfort.. for those that say it hurts....get a new Doctor or ask the nurse doing the prep to put a little more "pain deadening ingredient" (whatever it is) in your penis before the Doctor arrives.... And just the fact the nurse gets to hold you while she puts the medicine in is worth the test... I'm just saying...
Hey I had a cystoscopy the other day - sure it hurt like a needle through the ass at the point when the scope went past the prostate, but other than that 15 seconds or so it was fine, and I'm really glad I didn't have and intravenous anaesthetic that would have wiped me out for the day. I walked out 15 minutes after the op - pee hurt for maybe the next three times, but totally resolved after a day. Diagnosis? Normal! Relief worth the pain!
I had one done years ago for stones in the bladder, luckily I was knocked totally out for it. Afterwards, not much pain except to pee for 2 days, then I bled for a week. Ugh.
God! I just had a flexible cystoscopy done an hour ago with an experienced and very reputable urologist. Yes, I got the 15 ml's of Lidocaine for 15 minutes. No help at all It was agony! I screamed like a Banshee with arms flailing. That is the truth so help me God! Urologists know that this procedure is agony and they lie and tell you it is only slight uncomfortable. Maybe if you are dead! What would I compare it to? Imagine a white hot poker being rammed up your pee hole. Yes, that's it.
I had mine done yesterday and I screamed bloody murder. It was so painful. My diagnosis: Urethral Diverticulum :( Don't mean to scare anyone, but the urologist said it wasn't supposed to hurt. So unless you have my condition, I think you should be ok. I noticed burning after when I peed, but I recovered after a day.
ok..just had it done this morning. Pain wasn't as bad as much as awkwardness and being plain uncomfortable. From the nurse pumping the gel in my penis, clipping the giant paperclip on it..to my doctor inserting the scope. It was a flexible scope. Just a lot of pressure and HUGE feeling of having to pee while performing procedure. The real pain is once I got home..peeing every minutes..feeling like razor blades.
your rather a little confused. Cystoscopy is conducted through the ureta/urine track. Not the womb!! I have just had this done myself. Investigates bladder and around that area.
HAHAHAHAHH...I Just had this done for 2nd time. scar tissue again. I realy wanted to know what the doctor saw ..or what it looked like...NOW i get to see!! its incredible...also cause im baked! hahaha wow. with flexible scope its really not bad. even the numbing gel is from plastic syrenge not a needle.
I sterilise the telescopes and obturators at work for these procedures. Its cool to actually see it done. Yeah very quick procedures. We dont often yet the urethrotomes to resterilise. They usally just use a diathermy loop to cut off any bits, and they r only tiny. Sorry for ranting and raving
Anytime a woman had my penis in their hand, it was going to be a good thing, well, yesterday that all changed. It wasn't unbearable, a bit uncomfortable, but the procedure could save your life. I had a 25 in. monitor only inches away for my viewing pleasure.
i dont care what anybody says...i did it today and the doc passed through some scar tissue and it hurt soooo bad i thought the nurse was gonna have to fight me to stay in the chair...i never ever want to go through that again...and the numbing gel getting pumped into your pee hole with a syringe was no fun either....it felt like i was a creme filled eclaire
My urination has been burning for months now. I had a bad infection. Never had any blood. Finally, I agreed with the doc and we did one of these. Did it in the hospital, and was completely out. He didn't find a damn thing. Anyhow, do in the hospital. Except for some pain and bleeding which goes away in a day, you will never know you had it done. If you are having problems...get it done.
Please study my account page. I know for fact melamine has been in our food supply for at least a few years. I believe that many kidney problems are being caused by melamine and cyanuric acid crystals blocking the tubules. Of course burning urine could be a number of things, its important that doctors realize how serious melamine is and start checking for the crystals.
I would personally hope that ALL males over 50 get over their fear, talk to the urologist of their choice and have this simple proceedure done to check for any clues to problems. It saved my life.
for all of you who sy this shit doesent hurt. you have lost your mind that shit was awful. it wasnt as painful as it was just dam awkward feeling,, felt like i had to poop guys. lol nah it was over in minutes they give you good shit to help with your nerves
I got mine done today....for me...buzzardglory was rite...it wasnt that bad..it hurt a lil..not alot..and it didnt take long..min max lol. I'm srry urs was bad rob!!..actaully peeing for me is not that bad...its the normal pain I feel all the time.....maybe u got a bad doc or a bad cam??
it hurts dont let them fool you but you can deal with it.. its over in seconds..it put alot of pressure on your bowels though so be sure not to blow a load in the docs face
of course it hurts...but its really not that bad. mine wasnt. I'm fooling no one..I think the 2 days after hurt more than the procedure. really? yea it is an akward feeling....but with me...it wasnt as bad as i thought it was gonna be.
Try not to go with what you see here. I had mine done today and it was very uncomfortable and painful, but they told me that everyone reacts different, it depends on your body. If you have to have it then do it otherwise you will regret it later on.
I forgot to mention that you will have a lot of burning sensation in your urinary track and will be difficult to urinate, ask your doctor for Pyridium, its an analgesic(pill) and does help quite a bit.
NO, this did not hurt and the point is "I Still Can" and at 66 and have gone through it all, I reccommend that all males over 50-55 start seeing their urologist so "YOU Still Can"!
I had my cystoscopy last friday, 20 Jan 2012, but I got a problem now. I lost the urge to pee, it seems like I don't feel that urge to go pee anymore. Anyone experienced that after the cystoscopy?? Please let me know. Thank you.

Paun991 1 year ago
That is interesting. What are the chances the surgery fell on that day? So your pretty young too then if you would be a senior. I'm only 26 and i have been dealing with prostate/urinary issues for almost 2 years now. Again i wish you the best.

@missfatalefemme But with a name such as "missfatalefemme" you were able to take it without so much as a twitch.

just had this done 2 hours ago. i think the shooting of the numbing jelly was the worst part. the only other painful part was when passing the prostate(though it was a pretty sharp pain for like 5 seconds). on the way out it was painless. now i'm peeing razor blades, but no blood.
zeroburrito 2 years ago
I am having this done soon. I cancelled my appointment the day before I was supposed to go last time because the mere thought of some doctor I hardly know even being down around my privates scares me. The doctor didn't tell me I could have general anesthesia, so I'm guessing it might be just local anesthesia :( I see him again tomorrow and I know he will re-schedule the cystoscopy. I've had hundreds of UTI's so it's for the best, but I'm just not sure...
missfatalefemme 2 years ago
I had this done 2 weeks ago. I was not sedated and it was horrible. Not exactly painful, though there was some pain, more extreme fear and very uncomfortable. Entry was a bitch....and the anaesthetic cream they syringe in first, well....! Very sore for 5-6hrs after but the memory will make you shudder every time you think of it (for the next couple of days).
bensondoyle1 2 years ago
Or have it done in the office, get a local anesthetic, have the procedure done within 2 minutes, talk to the doctor about the findings, then go home... all within 20 minutes of checking in, and still be fine to go about your day like nothing happened. And all you have to pay is a fraction of what it would cost to get it done at a hospital. So your choice... less than 2 minutes of minor discomfort in your region or long lasting pain in your pocket.
sora956 2 years ago
It takes more or less 2 min. Yeah you can have this under general anesthesia, but you will be in a hospital getting a full work up. Be put under general anesthesia, have it done, then you wake up all groggy and have to wait about an hour in recovery room until your vitals return to normal, then have someone else drive you home where you end up just sitting around unable to do anything for the rest of the day, and end up paying thousands of dollars for the room, doctor, anesthetist, and drugs
sora956 2 years ago
I had this done couple of days ago. I cant comment on if it hurts or not as i was asleep (general) they wanted to do it with the numb cream stuff 3 weeks ago but i was to scared! lol im 26!
After having it done under general they removed a stricture (cut it) i think they have something attached to the cystoscopy. I woke up with a catherter, when they removed that IT HURT due to being cut (urethra)I ADVISE ALL MEN TO HAVE THIS UNDER GENERAL! SLEEP THROUGH IT! so what if women call us wimps! :)

It just felt like i was sucking pee back up to me XD, but they just went in and out with no biopsies or owt
dillydan88 2 years ago
that looks like it would be horribly painful. if i end up having to get this done i'd rather be out for it. i had a catheter put in last week and I thought that was the worst pain i've ever felt.
frodobaggins115 2 years ago

Iv just had my Flexible Cystoscopy done today, i must say i wish i had the option to be knocked out.
its a very uncomfortable procedure.
And at times very painful especially when passing the prostrate to get into the bladder.
The "numbing gel" does more pain than any good.
Although i havnt had any blood in my urine since having the procedure done, it is very painful to pass urine.
Avoid this at all costs guys, no matter how much they say "it wont hurt"
spenner11 2 years ago
I have had this done twice.
The first time was agony. No ceremony, just ram it in. The second time was with a different surgeon. He took a minute or two to use a syringe to inject some numbing gel into the penis, then coated the end of the scope with lubricant and chemistry. Very uncomfortable, but not painful. Also, no post-scope bleeding the second time. ....Just depends who is doing it !
rtel123 2 years ago 3
Just had my procedure done, was not as bad as i thougtht, only part that was bad was when it went by prostate, or as the doctor called it a sphincter, before i could laugh at that i felt a sharp pain for about 3 seconds, then after that it was ok, what a relief. I think it just differ's for some people depending on how bad their condition is, fortunately mine was not that bad.
lHashl 2 years ago
Get knocked out. It was horrible - the numbing gel is a joke. An extremely cruel and painful joke. I had to be held down and I am a toughie. It was sheer hell. I don't want to be dramatic but it was like reverse peeing a knife and then having it wiggled around. I was peeing straight blood and wanting to die the whole rest of the day.
pjschiwy 2 years ago
I just went though on of these procedures recently. I wish the Doctor was a bit more honest. I was angry the whole F**KING day. I'd rather do the prostate exam 7 days a week before I did this again. NOW I understand why men don't go to the doctor. Getting knocked out is fantastic advise. I actually feel traumitized.

Sorry to be so frank, but that was my experience.
ian4fun 2 years ago
I have this done every three months (since Sept. 07) Hardly any discomfort.. for those that say it hurts....get a new Doctor or ask the nurse doing the prep to put a little more "pain deadening ingredient" (whatever it is) in your penis before the Doctor arrives.... And just the fact the nurse gets to hold you while she puts the medicine in is worth the test... I'm just saying...
billmhudson 2 years ago
Hey I had a cystoscopy the other day - sure it hurt like a needle through the ass at the point when the scope went past the prostate, but other than that 15 seconds or so it was fine, and I'm really glad I didn't have and intravenous anaesthetic that would have wiped me out for the day. I walked out 15 minutes after the op - pee hurt for maybe the next three times, but totally resolved after a day. Diagnosis? Normal! Relief worth the pain!
marlzipan 2 years ago
I had one done years ago for stones in the bladder, luckily I was knocked totally out for it. Afterwards, not much pain except to pee for 2 days, then I bled for a week. Ugh.
wilburscott 2 years ago
Yes, that's it.
davidcraig99 2 years ago
I had mine done yesterday and I screamed bloody murder. It was so painful. My diagnosis: Urethral Diverticulum :( Don't mean to scare anyone, but the urologist said it wasn't supposed to hurt. So unless you have my condition, I think you should be ok. I noticed burning after when I peed, but I recovered after a day.

I had mine this morning and I agree afterwards when you need to pee it is so painful!!
andyp40 2 years ago
ok..just had it done this morning. The real pain is once I got home..peeing every minutes..feeling like razor blades.

before the entrance of the womb, there seems to be a lobe, and behind that lobe is a dead end and in front of that lobe is where the hymen is.
can sum1 please tell me what that part is

your rather a little confused.
