  • I have a new expression to go along with cowboy up how about Sully up

  • She: I'm retarded

    He: Yes.And i'm awesome.

  • Really an incredible story and one we all should not forget! If I had been a passenger on that flight I would have literally "shit" my pants while the plane descended! God Bless you Sully,Skiles, and the Flight Attendants for your professionalism, calm, demeanor! As well credit to the NYC emergency persons involved. As well good work Patrick Harden air traffic controller! You guys are all to be commended for your actions that day! Good that you testified to congress Sully and others about issues!

  • I'm a highschool football player, and looking at that photo of a young Sully reminded me of a friend I have in the JROTC, an organization that I have always made a point to respect.

Next time you see a kid in the JROTC and you think about making fun of him, just think about what he could be in the future...

  • thats the kind of model a pilot have to follow... confidence.

  • He was god damn lucky ! That's all.

  • @dukieboy007 sorry but I don't believe this was luck. He was smart and experienced, knew what he was doing. Not luck, but a good job!!

  • @dukieboy007 Experienced, calm, skillfull. The only lucky part about it was that HE was the one flying the plane.

  • @mcclellandt Comon.... Do you really think that, for real ?

I dont want to talk bad about him, at all.

    But he WAS lucky !

  • @dukieboy007 Yes I do believe that. Everyone else on the plane is EXTREMELY lucky that HE was the one flying, going through the air force and commercial flying for 30 years and teaching emergency courses or whatever.

He had some luck just with the fact that it was not only a great landing but a flawless landing. And that not a single person was injured.

  • @mcclellandt You are sooo wrong!!! Even Sully would say that he was lucky !

  • @dukieboy007 I'm not, we're both partially correct. I'm going to contradict myself and say that i agree with you that he was lucky of how amazing everything turned out. But you can't deny that everyone else wasnt lucky!! My first response was really more of a light-hearted statement.

  • @mcclellandt I agree that it was everyone else on the plane who was lucky -- that SULLY WAS THE PILOT! I will acknowledge that he was lucky in one specific area -- that the river was right there. Had the river not been within reach, this story would have had a different ending only because he would not have had an unpopulated area in which to land the plane. But other than that, it was all the skill, experience, and confidence of this man that made the landing a success.

  • how can she not ask him how fast they were going when they hit the water??

    isn't that a relevant question??

    that's mind boggling!!!

  • This would be an awesome true story movie! God bless you Sully.

  • Some of Katie Couric's questions are fucking retarded

  • one bad mf. that is all I can say.

  • Love this man! He is the closest thing to God on earth!

  • This pilot told the laws of physics to go screw themselves. Thank you Capt. PRESENT ARMS..................ORDER ARMS!

  • "will be in Hudson".. :)

  • I dont know why nobody got good footage of the hudson flying into the river i think somebody would see a plane flying low and record it crashing into the lake...

  • simply amazing

  • so awesome yah

  • you should never forget a man like that

  • Sullenberger: We can all learn so much from him: Calm: focused: and purposeful actions. Used every moment so intently and fully. Thank you Sullenberger and crew for the inspiration.

  • January 15th - National Sullenberger Day !!!

  • an absolute hero! no other words to describe him.... well done

  • thats the best way to retired, great pilot, a hero we will never forget

  • not necessarily an atheist, but at least agnostic. which is kind of god thing. so he could focus on the important things rather than thinkin of god or crap like that. "i think someone in the back was takin care of that". good answer. let other people take care of that if they believe it helps.

  • @Sicklehead88...just because he wasn't praying doesn't mean that he is agnostic. The situation happened too fast and he had to concentrate on landing the plane.Maybe for a sec thought of divine assistance ran through his mind. And for those people who say that the god thing is crap,I bet if they' were atheists on that plane, I think I know who's the first person they would be calling on .Too many atheists have called on God when face with a life threatening situation

  • What does it tell us about god, if only fear of death can make us think of him?

I can almost imagine god saying: When you die, I'm gonna torture you for the rest of eternity, so better tell me that I am a nice god and that you love me.

If the christian god does exist, he is terribly arrogant. Of the 10 most important laws he gave to humans, the first 3 cater purely to his arrogance.

  • The first 3 laws cater to an idea of control. Before government...there was religion..who created religion? Humans. And... sadly in this age of information, billions of people still subscribe to this idea of control.

  • This man is the definition of hero. He acted so calmly, listening to the tapes from the cockpit, it was chilling. He was calm as his airplane was coming down quickly. He said it was a sickening feeling, but listening to the tapes, you couldn't tell. He is an American hero and always will be, and now... he's flying again. Welcome home, Captain Chesley, B. "Sully" Sullenberger III. We love you!

  • She asks if he prayed?? I love his answer... He had a job to do, no time for that crap. He clearly has twice the intelligence of the talking head doing the interviewing. I'm almost embarrassed for him: Couric is so out of her league here...

  • @mcadarette:

Couric is, as you say, out of her "league". As for Sully having twice the intellect of the "talking head"?? In all fairness, Capt. Sully has twice the intellect of most people...... including me!!

  • this is an amazing man right here.

  • I still think about this and Sully was so cool and calm which facilitates rational thinking. He was quite the certain fellow and his Air Force training helped definitely.

  • New drink called "The Sully" 2 shots of Grey Goose and a splash of water

  • haha omg, she is so serious with her stupid questions she makes me angry. Lucky she Sully is so calm. Godspeed

  • Great Story, and yeah Couric's questions are fucking amateur

  • Hero! Sully in book`s for years.

    And as always stupid questions...

  • "I had business to attend to, I had a job to do" What an absolute stand-up human being and Hero. You can't get too much cooler than that.

  • His cool reminds me to that of Fangio. This guy calmly explains in detail how he managed to control something that was completely out of control, in a situation where 99,9999999% of the rest of us would have peed our pants and cry for mommy. I just want to say something:

Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap

  • la cara de interés falso y forzado de la periodista arruina la entrevista

  • this captain is so secure he is a true hero

  • wow! the calm, in the face of so many problems! a pro if ever there was one! way to go Sully!!!!

  • Amazing human being. I am speechless.

  • did you think how are we gonna get out of this? no....

  • geezuz her questions are LAME !!!

  • This is my Idol not just because he did this landing which is impressive but his personality.

  • this is a real hero... a simple reason... he doesnt bullshit...

  • a real hero. i have only one thing for him 'RESPECT'

  • i love captain sullenburger, like you said

EightCharlieFox, katie couric tried to make it all dramatic, but sully was just all cool and such.

it also amazes me how humble sullenburger seems to be in this interview; he just calmly explains his thought process and what happened.

  • I think it's great that Katie Couric tried SO hard to make things dramatic and Capt. Sullenberger just told it how it was, in black and white.

  • lol yeah typical media, trying to make everything sound dramatic..

  • Thanks to all 5 crew members! It wasn't just the Captian & First Officer that brought 155 people to safety. We must remember that the 3 Flight Attendants were very busy helping 150 people to safety until they were joined by the 2 pilots!

What a wonderful ending for Flight 1549 that cold day in January. Thanks goes out to the ground crew that was there in a blink of an eye! So many heros that day!!! How many? We may never know.......

  • give me a break grandma, the pilots saved everyones lives. The FA's were lucky to be alive, just like everyone else.

Once they hit the water passenger and FA survival instinct took over, from the interviews I saw, the FA's lost control of the situation especially in the back, Captain and FO saved many lives that day!

  • I made a true fan video for Sully! He is such an inspiration! I love you Sully. You're My Hero. Check My Page!

  • "My aircraft."

    "Your aircraft."

I bet that co-pilot was incredibly relieved to relinquish control.

  • i was seating on seat 7D

  • stupid interviewer

  • "One Katie Couric is approximately 2.6 pounds of excrement"

  • He should title his bio, "I Was Sure I Could Do it."

  • Proud to be a citizen of earth... He did it for all of us... Made us all happy.

  • It's amazing when we look how much the executives, union and government are doing to his profession !

2 kinds of people, the good ones who saved everybody and the bad ones! Even his hotel breakfast was cut to save some money, cutting pension, money and everything else shame on them, congrats to you and all your crew who, after all these years of hard work, training and all the troubles your profession have did your job really well. Priceless! Thank you

  • "I was sure I could do it." Sully you rock!

  • What a guy. Did anyone see the Larry King interview. Why did they have that girl sing her awful song at the end of the show. It was embarrassing.

  • wasen't the first time . He talked on leterman first before anyone .

  • I love the way Katie Couric keeps trying to coax gushy, mushy, confession-type statements out of him, and he just keeps saying, "No. I had a job to do. I had to concentrate. I knew I could do it."

  • Respect to you Sully...

That's what happens when you don't pray in the cockpit... If he would've - they'd probably all be ''with God'' by now... He nicely averted that question, as he, of all, knows best that if there were a God, He wouldn't put the birds there in the first place... Knowledge & Skills are always stronger assets as faith....

Good job of a professional man... Thumbs up..

  • amazing.

  • This just goes to show, that when people are doing their praying, there is REAL life people who don't use god as a crutch and simply use their skills and rely on themselves, instead of relying on god to get them out of a situation. This man here is a hero and took matters into his own hands and got shit done safely.

  • God told him not to pray and just land the plane.

    Just kidding.

  • Hatts off for you sir....

    Captain Sully=Superman

  • When the movie about Sully comes out, I nominate William H. Macy to portray him.

  • The new definition of cool...Sullenberger!

  • sully is so chill and articulate compared to couric...

sullenburger: "we were descending rapidly toward the water"

couric:"...so you were going...fast...toward the earth?"

couric: "did you at some point pray?"

sullenberger: "...i imagine someone in back was taking care of that for me while i was flying the airplane."

  • awesome vid

  • Wonderful man, thank God for him.

  • He a is a Bad Motherf*cker. Captain Sully, thank you.

  • a TRUE american hero

  • Jesus, I wish to have his coooooooool.

  • A very Randian charecter. A man in control; ruled by reason and logic and a passion for what he does

  • What a great story. He's definitely the definition of a hero.

  • "Well that went better than I thought.." YA THINK????

  • This guy is a zen master.

  • such a hero

  • Wait...That doesn't even make sense...When attempting to insult someone on youtube, try and relate it to something real world. Give it another shot, we'll pretend like you didn't ask your 4th grade brother what to say to stir up controversy.

  • I don't take direction from people like you, who eat shit for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • haha like on Happy Gilmore. You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
