  • Understanding Flamenco ok

be as smart as a new pin

In my leisure time, I enjoying the guitar

  • Hi Adam!

Can you tell me please what guitar are you using in these lessons? I am just amazed by the sound of this guitar. I would be interested in one.

    Thank you

    Leonardo.

  • any one got the exact spec on the guitar its a pedrol miguel ? also how doesn one get into learning the fandango huelves form, the falseta (remate and compas he played and chord subs loverly , brillinat playing and force

  • Well this guy knows his shit! He deffinatly knows what he's doing.

  • Some things have to be appreciated.. cuz there's no way I can play that anytime soon. :D

  • Gracias Adam outstanding!

  • this guy is very good!

  • Ole. Harto duende tiene tu remate del fandango Adam! I was doing it differently but I'm practicing your remate now.

  • I want to play!!!

  • that was AWESOME!! I have a new found appreciation for Flamenco guitar! Thank you!

  • amaaaaaaaaaaazing,,, really need more mooooreeeee

  • F***king amazing, man!

  • damn shit, you really impressed me!

  • greate scholl.I love your playing.I wach your videos and learnimg diferent stile of flamenco,thanks..on youtube my video is ljubohendrix flamenco

  • too manic?? any true artist would tell you there is no such thing. im just now gettin into flamenco but have all but mastered neoclassical electric guitar and rock, metal, jazz, and classical. but Jason is right. dynamics are more imprtant than anything. also...hearing him describe notes by colors-mozart and other musical masters have said similar things. that is a rare gift/association with music.

  • he is a very good teacher, But also a very good guitarist.

  • Jason el Rubio, I'm not sure what Gitanoz said but if he criticised you for playing to aggressively on your solos, using too much rasguedo/golpes in a manic way I'm afraid he speaks some truth..the fact that Pedro Cortes told you to play strong with dancers doesn't mean you play the same way in a solo does it..when you're more subtle you may be compared with Vicente, and so on but at the moment it's hard to hear your compositions as they're blasted out by over-aggressive playing..

  • Not truth......Opinion. Your opinion is that I play in a manic way. Playing strong for dance is an asset not a detriment. Being manic is a compliment to an artist. Dynamics are everything. Like I said before. I play the way I play. I am not copying another player. I have my own unique set of experiences. You have yours. I have my opinions and you have yours. Obviously with 214,000 views.....there must be some people who are moved by my playing.

  • bla bla bla...

  • I totally agree! This is art! There are no RULES in art, and each artist has its style. It would be really wrong if you played imitating other artists. So if you want to play, I would Say passionate (not manic) DO IT! Some will like it and some will not but that's how art works. And people should be really careful about their opinions cause the perception of art is a subjective thing. (sorry about my english)

  • Thanks.

  • Gitanoz, I agree with you Juan Martin is the most overrated flamenco guitarist, probably ever! but if fame was what defined a good guitarist you'd be saying Juan Martin is the 'best', he's more famous than Tomatito, Paco, etc.. in many parts of the world but these guitarists are the top of the pile..many comparitively unknown flamenco guitarists are a million times better than Juan, fame is no criterion for judging flamencos!

  • Thanks again. I agree 100% with you!

Like you mentioned before when you play for dancers you need a strong rythmn and dynamics but when you play solo it is more about musicality and subtle contrasts. Having said that, many of the modern accompanists in Spain are playing for dancers in a more musical way these days and less like a machine gun!.

  • man, if after seeing and hearing the music, you still need tabs... dude- get a brain.

  • Great Instructor indeed.

  • quite

  • By far the best instructor I have seen on Youtube. All the others calling themselves instructors or posting lessons are just a waste of time.

  • yepppp!!

  • Jason Mc Guire is very good too I think. And he gives us the tabs !

  • Too Heavy Handed - bashes the hell out of his guitar! That's not flamenco hombre!

  • Sorry, but I'm a little bit tired of people saying who is and who is not flamenco. Maybe Adam is better, but Mc Guire is very good, he does not ask money, and really is flamenco, and that's all, if he wants to bash the hell out of his guitar, it's his right and it's still flamenco...!

  • Obviously then you know nothing about flamenco with a comment like that! Are you a professional player of over 35 years who has worked around the world and studied with the best? Well I am so I know what I'm talking about as does Adam!

  • Didn't know flamenco was just for professional players who have studied with the best for 35 years and do not send their vids so that we can see the result, and I didn't know neither it was for integrists, but maybe it is so, I don't know nothing about flamenco, thanks for opening my hears, hombre !

  • I am loving this discussion. Who is better is of no importance. Adam is a superb player and composer and I am sure he is a solid teacher as well. And by the way Gitanoz, I have played with many of flamencos greats as well.....sorry to hear all you think I do is bash the guitar. "A dance accompanist should play strong." Thats what Pedro told me years ago.

  • "Jason is one of the most majestic and powerful guitarist I have ever seen. His Versatility is unmatched he has vast knowledge of Flamenco, Jazz, classical, Rock, and world music. His compositions are comparable to Vicente Amigo, Tomatito , and Nino Josele. One of the finest young musician of our time."

    - Pedro Cortes

  • Hey Pedro say hello to my friend Tito who you are playing with. I worked with him for years in Australia.

  • Gitanoz.....why don't you post a video of yourself and show us all what it is exactly that you know about flamenco. I am sure many of us would really appreciate the education.

  • I don't need to show off by putting videos on here. Flamenco is Not a competition and I'm not competative. I believe in playing flamenco with respect and integrity.

  • As I suspected. It is easy to be critical when you hide behind a screen name. Too bad you don't offer commentary with the same respect and integrity that you play with. That is a pretty scathing comment you have on your youtube page from woolfie123. You must have written something exceptionally respectful to earn praise like that.;)

  • On the contrary I was being very honest with you If you can't handle criticism from one you knows flamenco, but only praise from those that don't know much about it then that's your problem. As for woolfie123 I've never heard of him!I'm not in the habit of posting scathing comments just constructive criticism.

  • I have received both praise and criticism from many more knowledgeable than yourself. Remember Gitanoz, I am not the one hiding behind a veil. I wouldn't consider using the words "That's not flamenco hombre!" constructive criticism. Would you consider Pedro Cortes, Antonio Malena, Jesus Montoya, Antonio El Pipa and Paco Fernandez people who don't know much about flamenco?

  • How do you know how knowledgeable I am? You don't know me. I have been in this game for a long time - over 35 years.BTW I'm not hiding behind a veil. None of those players you mention are Great players. Where do they live in USA? Anyway I'm tired of this game.

  • Antonio "el Pipa" is dancer from Jerez, Antonio Malena is a cantaor, also from Jerez, Paco Fernandez is a great guitarist from Sevilla. Jesus Montoya is another cantaor from Sevilla now living in the U.S. Pedro Cortes is another well known gypsy guitarist who is widely respected and learned directly from Sabicas. You are the one who doesn't know very much. You just proved it.

  • As I said that they are unknowns! They are not world famous are they? Duh, duh do you feel better now? I'm sick of your childish games.I listen to and learn from the greats of flamenco not mediocrity. There are some here that even think Juan Martin is a great player so I rest my case!

  • Since when do you have to be world famous to be a great artist? There is nothing mediocre about any of the artists I have mentioned.

  • Here is Woolfie123's quote about you from your own page....

"Gitanoz is a frickin idiot. You along with many are so stuck on yourselves you forget that music is to the pleasure of the person who plays it and if others don't like it so what? Your playing may sound good to you and but to others it may suck. Does that make it any less music? NO. Music is a progressive art form..."

  • I am with Woolfie123. It seems you were picking on some female student who posted a video of what they had been practicing. That seems like a pretty low-class and just plain mean thing for a "great artist" like yourself to do. C'mon Gitanoz post a video and show us what you've got!

  • will you guys stop already! joder!! music is about love...
