  • just heard im in it one is amused fun day .

  • I think she was the perfect actor for this role !!!

  • Join PERIOD ROMANCE MOVIES on facebook!! :)

  • James McAvoy's in it!!

  • the dancing at 0:45 is crappy! the one in pride n prejudice 2005 was so much better. it looked real and not mechanically learned. Love Anne though.

  • Anne is so beautiful :-)

  • Let it be written, Americans are henceforth forbidden from narrating the trailers for any historical English drama!

  • Hi there, Professor McGonnagal!

  • "Ladies, this is Fight Club. We are no longer the Good Society."

    :D

    Fight Club, ftw.

  • @iwantwatermellon Definitely Persuasion; it's my favorite. All of her books are excellent, but Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility are for me a tie for 'next most interesting' after Persuasion. Then I would say Northanger Abbey, then Mansfield Park, then Emma.

  • If they had cast Keira Knightley, just 2 years after her version of P+P, some might have got real confused as to whether they were watching a movie based on an Austen novel, or a movie based on Austen's life.

And as good as Knightley is, she might just play Jane Austen exactly the way she played Lizzie. But Jane is not as impetuous as Lizzie - Jane Austen has to be played as a mature but passionate young lady. I thought Anne nailed it. And not being Brit, I can't comment on the accent.

  • Pride & prejudice is a wonderful book and so is the movie with Keira Knightley. The rain scene ... wow. Even better is a 1995 BBC adaptation with Colin Firth.

    OBOŽAVAM JE.

  • I have never read a Jane Austen book and I am 17. I am interested, but to be honest, I am intimidated. What book would you recommend?

  • @iwantwatermellon I recommend Pride & Prejudice. Honestly, I really recommend Pride & Prejudice and Zombies. I'm 27, I read it and it was very good. It is still Jane Austen's work but there is the additional background of zombies roaming England. No need to be intimidated, you will love it and understand it.

  • @marie8serena Haha. I was going to read Jane Austen's Fight Club, but you have changed my mind.

  • @iwantwatermellon I would recommend Persuasions. It's a bitt more mature than her other books, but incredibly sweet.

  • @MissCaraMint Well thank you :)

  • @iwantwatermellon yes, pride and prejudice is definitely a good way to start. jane austen herself described it as "rather too light & bright & sparkling", but it offers an intresting perspective into what life was like then, without being too confusing or at all overbearing. the classic, complicated romance will sort of get you in the proper mood to want to read more.

  • @Bubbletea116 Cool. Thank you :)

  • This was a very good movie. You can feel what Jane feels when she writes. Jane Austen in one my favorite authors of all time.

  • Loved the movie !

  • nice flash frame at 1:57 lol

  • Wow, the narrator seems very enthousiastic! She must be such a colourful person.

  • I like...REALLY want to see this movie and enjoy it,but ever since I've seen her in Valentines Day I don't see her the same anymore.

  • to be honest I can't believe she read austen's novels only at this age and because of the part she had to play.dissapointing

  • She did a pretty good job I think.

  • could her voice sound any more excited?

    no. for real.

  • @xmindframesafetyx lol thats what i was thinking when i was watching the vis xD

  • she is way too beautiful to be jane austen. no fair play. x)

  • I love Jane Austen novels!

Obrigada.

  • The reporters voice reminded me of something Bueller Bueller maybe shes related to the teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day off

  • @janet4125 I'm pretty sure the reporter was Script Girl, not the current one, but the old one. Problem was she was speaking much too slowly.

  • i don't like her.....arg :-/

  • I found her accent alright, well, she tried.

The chemistry between Jane and Thomas Lefroy was GOOD though :)

  • Anne did a wonderful job of portraying Jane Austen. Of all those that were considered for the role, she was the best choice. Her and James McAvoy, both very good actors, had a wonderful onscreen chemistry that made the story of Jane and Tom truly come to life and such a joy to watch.

  • its romantic movie ..and ann hairstyle here is unique

  • What is wrong with you people? James himself praised her acting and said she portrayed Austen brilliantly. Her accent was well enough and I'm glad that Anne was chosen for this role not Keira.

  • @magikalme i wish ledger did movie like this

  • @chanelprincess16 casanova is pretty close...so is a knight's tale

  • oh my god this commentators voice is enough to strangle someone

  • @yearningarrow lol! true!!

  • she is so my fav actress! i need 2 warch this thing

  • Couldn't they have just got an English Actress to play an English woman!? Just a thought...

  • I completely agree with you. I love Anne Hathaway...I think she is a great actress; but her British accent it's not good at all.

  • That was an extremely good question. However, there is so much red tape in Hollywood. I have looked for work in film, and it is extremely tough to find. It seems only a small group of people will ever get to work full time in that field. Getting a BA in acting, for example, actually gives no one any real advantage, either, in spite of what the campus professors might tell us.

Notice that we cannot find auditions for any real film? That is because casting directors already decide "early."

  • The strange thing about this is the Hollywood Bosses feel Americans would not accept a 'Foreign' actress in one of their films, is it me or is that totally insulting the good American people!?

Also the commentator say's she spent a whole month in London perfecting the role, a month! wow that' a real long time to learn an accent and get into the role.... Not!

Hollywood stop insulting the inteligence of your audience and give us Actors and actresses that are at least believeable in their roles!

  • I'm agree!!!!!

  • Could someone please stop this speaker voice. It's horrifying!

  • That frakking voice is annoying!

  • AARRGGG the voice is so monitone.

  • lizzy is beautiful, only not as beautiful as jane

  • Rosie Barrett Hathaway;

  • holy crap can the reporter's voice be ANY more annoying?

  • agreed ;)

  • @greenNINJAspam wtf is wrong with you guys ??

  • @greenNINJAspam lol

  • Man I read all of Jane Austens books

  • god I've read P & P 5 million times and it still never gets old. I've fallen in love with that book, characters and austen.

  • it might be better with a British Actress who looks like Jane Austen.

  • That's true, I'm not even British and yet there's something about Jane Austen that IS so British, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with her being played by an American!

  • i agree. her I'm british and her accent sounded straned and very, very fake.

  • She's not from the UK what do you expect ? lol

  • well, you know. she gave it her best shot. i'm sure your american accent isn't anything to boast about either.

  • Accents are very difficult to perform. I think that she played Miss Austen very well. She tried her best and I'm sure a lot of people can understand that. As well as the fact that there have been, quite frankly painful impressions of either the cockney or an aristocratic British accent from American actors and television shows. So I am glad that everyone tried their best in this film to make it more realistic, especially to the times.

  • I do not think she was right for this at all and Keira Knightly was smashing in Pride and Prejudice.

  • I agree that Hathaway wasn't the best choice for Jane, but Keira Knightly as Lizzie was a bad choice, too, since Lizzie isn't supposed to be beautiful.

  • Good luck finding an actress to star in a major production who isn't viewed as beautiful by more than just her mother!

  • They weren't going to hire her because she was so pretty, but her personality won them over.

  • its ok for them to pick a beautiful lizzie just as long as jane would be prettier and thats what happened with pride and prejudice with keira knightly.

  • she was supposed to be the second most beautiful lady in Hertfordshire, after Jane! It was Miss Bingley and at first DArcy's view of her inferiority that made her seem unatractive. further, lizzie was thinner than jane (when jane and lizzie run to the father for news about Lydia toward the end in the text)

  • NICE MOVIE

  • i was worried she would kill this movie just like Kiera Knightley did to Pride and Prejudice(It was a good movie, sure, but it screwed with the book!)but she feels the same way about Austen that I do! Reading Jane is like hearing from a friend!!

  • i agree. i dont' know, there's something about Keira Knightley that bugs me. but I think Anne did a decent job. she also had reason to take the part. wansn't she a lit major or something in university and actually did reports on Jane Austen? so i've heard

  • For some reason I don't want to watch it and ruin my perceptiono of Jane Austen. I might though just because it's "Becomes..." not "actual" yet..

    > _ >

  • I love Jane Austen, and Anne Hathaway is so pretty.

  • oh everytime I see a video about a movie or something this fucking woman with an annoying voice commentate everytime!

  • OH MY JEEZ I KNOW!

  • Hm..Iv'e seen James' face in lots of movies...Anyway, hes so cute!

  • damn she's hot!

  • Anne Hathaway is clearly a fellow Austen Addict.

would Jane have her vote in '08?

check out the campaign spots on Austen Addict.

  • I think Anne did okay on the accent, although it sounded corny every once in awhile. But ehm, yeah.. they obviously picked her for a reason, and I will say this, there was unbelieveable chemistry between James and Anne, which made me like the movie. ;o;

  • Personally, I dislike this movie, it has some wit but, the lack of morality is something even Jane Austen would have been shocked at. And it should not be a mockery of the period, sic Anne Hathaway playing Jane, although I quite agree w/ the title, she only ever "tried" to become Jane we must look elswhere for the real Jane Austen.

  • Seriously, the narrator, OMG! Every sentence has the same inflection, and wow does she EVER come from Brooklyn.

And while I'm not a big Anne Hathaway fan (any more than the absolutely insipid Keira Knightley) I think she did a pretty decent job.

  • The narrator sounds like someone forced her into doing this. Can she sound any more dead? Urgh.

  • Ugh, that narrator sucks. ...and so did this movie. Completely unmemorable. What's his face, John McAvoy, is friggin hot, though.

  • Actually, It is James McAvoy.

  • Yeah, thanks--I realized that after I posted.

    John. James. Whatever--still hot, lol.

  • GOD this narrator makes me want to kill myself

  • about as annoyed as one should be about vivian leigh playing scarlett o'hara

  • isn't anyone else even SLIGHTLY annoyed that Jane Austen, the most brilliant English female author EVER, got played by an American?

  • i dont think so

  • Oh, I'm more than slightly annoyed.

  • I would've let it slip if the woman playing Jane Austen wasn't Anne Hathaway. I don't dislike her, but I always think of the kid with big bushy hair and eyebrows in Princess Diaries.

I think they should've cast an unknown actress for the part.

  • what's wrong with americans? she did ood job. don't criticize people just because of where they come from

  • I'm not English/British but I do think Jane Austen should have been played by a British actress even though I think Anne Hathaway is a sweet person and great actress. The same way I think anyone would feel...

  • Anne was picked because she was the best to portray her from what the directors and casting thought! She took lessons in speaking, playing cricket, dancing, bowing, etc and totally immersed herself in the role of Jane Austen. From the Directors commentary on the DVD, Anne was what they were looking for. And on this same note, there are several British actors who portray Americans and WE don't complain about it! Anne, You were fantastic! thanks for your hard work!

  • i agree with you. i wasn't trying to be nasty!

  • OMG, I loved this movie so much. James Macavoy and Anne Hathaway have SO MUCH chemistry. They better come in another movie so I can see a happy ending!!!!

  • you ku . com and you can watch the film... heard about the page from perezes blog..

  • My goodness- what an honor to play Jane Austen in film.

  • OMGI cant wait to see this movie

im a HUGE fan of Jane's novels *_*

  • I love Becoming Jane and Jane Austen!

  • Wow, that narrator's voice is ANNOYING.

  • Yes I can't imagine how she got a job in Media so monotonous

  • she didn't! this is just some random amateur posting youtube videos! in her spare time ie

  • someone knows if this movie is going out in argentina?????????????????

  • I wish she would talk about what it was like kissing james mcavoy :p

  • ahha I am reading Sense and Sensibility right now and I LOVE it!! I know just what she's talking about
