Why is it that the Russians were unable to take the capital of Georgia? They also talked about killing the President but he is still in power. I know that Russia is many times bigger than Georgia but still the Russians didn't prove much. Is it the weakness of the individual Russian soldier or the leaders?

@chairde You speak as if War is a game. The war in Georgia was fought to protect the sovereignty of people and many Russian citizens. Russia was not willing to risk unnecessarily life's to take the Georgian capitol for the sake of bragging rights, (which it could of easily militarily speaking) but morally, many people on both sides would of lost their lives.

It actually failed in the process because the Russian military did so poorly against a very small army. Since then the Russian military had to make some major changes in its operations.

@chairde First of all its not like the entire Russian army was in South Ossetia, about 10,000 were present, Georgia had around 12,000 with 18,000 reserves, they had NATO equipment and technology plus trained by the US military. So it was pretty well matched. You give very little credit to the Georgian armed forces, they put up a good fight, in fact a Fair fight with equal air power, artillery and tanks. Must i say NATO has never been tested against an actual efficient mechanized army.

@russianlegionaire On what planet do you live? The New York City Police Department is bigger than the Georgian Army. The Russian Generals had become fat and lazy prior to this so called "war". The Russian supply lines were in chaos and the Russian soldiers were cruel and unruley to civilians. It was basicallly a wake up call for the Russian Generals to get their act together. Anyone who has any experience with the military knew right away that things did not go well for the Russian military.
