  • been a fan for 34 years, been to many many gigs, but i have to say when they intoduced this brass section it was just the worst decision. i guess it was experimental but it SERIOUSLY DIDNT WORK. it was just awful, in fact painful to watch and listen to , it detracted from the quintessential stranglers sound, which was a shame as they wrote some pretty good stuff in this era.

  • the dullest single they ever released?!

  • i dont care if people think stranglers became too pop or mainstream. they never did. their 80s stuff is genius and pure art. i could listen to it for ever

  • people put down the later Stranglers mellow sound but there is no doubt this is a beautiful song. They could and did do everything from the most agressive to the most dreamy!

  • Was the saxophonist part of the live band at the time?

  • @AtticusStount

Alex Gifford soon to be of The Propellerheads.

He wasn't on Aural Sculpture but played live with the band. His colaboration goes back to The Purple Helmets.

The brass and backing vox sections on Aural Sculpture were the same as Paul Young's album "Wherever I lay My Hat" produced by the same guy Laurie Latham. Listen to it cos it's aurally similar.

  • they are still fantastic ive seen them 37 times and im seeing Hugh next week manchester academy 12th time solo and stranglers 2010

  • Yeah me and my pal crud make the pilgrimage to see the MIB or Hugh whenever and wherever they are playing in Scotland..saw hugh a few weeks ago in Glasgow doing Rattus and Hooverdam which was immense. Also just found out the Stranglers are coming up to Aberdeen earlyish next year, and Hugh also around May..Always love having that to look forward to...Keep the faith mate

  • followed by Prototypes. Je ne te connais pas.

  • fantastic song

  • Stanglers introduce so WELL, la melancolie of the 80's. You have this impression that the merry-go-round is about to finish the last round.

    And the celebration is over.

    Taxi Girl, Paris

  • my favorite band of all time.. unfortunately they were already finished when hugh left the band. Totally original and totally brilliant.

  • it's not right , I have seen them this year (2009) and take a very good time.

  • I would love to think your right...I worshipped the ground they walked on ..but i cant agree with you.

  • "Let Me Down Easy" is 80s easy-listening most beautiful non-mainstream pop song... although this is not their best version (and even Hugh is lowsounding)

but thank you this song always save my day!

  • not one of their best i'm sure you'll agree.

  • hugh was the best :]

  • this is a stranglers song from the aural sculpture album great album great band.

  • 10/10 f**king fantastic band

  • album version is fuller. cool band.

  • love this song|! but i love it more for fact i remember goin to 2001 convention and they played it as a tribute to 9/11. love hugh. BUT GODBLESS PAUL ROBERTS his performance will always stick with me.

  • Hugh wrote the lyrics JJ came up with the melodies..

  • how good where they seen them at edinburgh playhouse years ago

  • Hugh was and truly is the man. Not a bit artsy. The lyrics are direct and real. one of the finest bands from that period.

  • I guess JJ wrote this about his dad after he died.......glad Hugh sang it.......

  • this is a cover of an old blues/soul classic, I dont know who wrote it or how many groups/singers have already done it, but Bette LaVette did it and so did Spencer Davis Group, I love the stranglers but this is not a good version of this song IMO, it needs to have some feeling in it and there is none here!

  • I was reading The Hugh Cornwell/Stranglers book "song by song" and could Swear Hugh said JJ wrote this song......either way, the boys did a good job on this one imo. I like the album version though, which is different than this video version.

You mentioned Hugh on the radio....is it me, or are his solo songs getting worse and worse? I like Wired, Guilty, and HI-FI, but everything after that has gone to sh*t.......what's happened to Hugh?

  • Noragirl, have you actually listened to the other songs of the same name? in a nutshell, the songs have the same title and that is all, this is an original Stranglers song, the others 'same titled' songs while being possible classics in their own genre and eras of music in no way can be put alongside this particular classic, egos and fall outs aside within the original line-up, this was a time when they pulled together and wrote quality music.

  • hear, hear!!!

  • Hugh is not an arse hes an ARtiStE, easy mistake for you to make, the stranglers broke up because it was time to. For his time with the band and his contribution in the creation of the greatest music ever written, i declare LET HE WHO IS NOT AN ARSE CAST THE FIRST ARSE long live the stranglers, past and present!!!

  • You should have heard him on radio four the other week then, he was doing a good impersonation of a complete ar*se and I am a stranglers fan, my husband is too and bought all thier albumns as they came out, believe me even the most ar*sey people are capable of brilliance it's just they are an ar*se as well!!!

  • One thing about the Stranglers, they were always great musicians, and strong songwriters.Such music is sorely missed today.

  • WOW! This is probably my favorite song (there have so many great songs) by the Stranglers!!! Very deep and well written!!!Thanx for posting this video!

  • Very Cool Very Smooth Very Ray Ban Very Wayfarer, Still sounds great today. Another Classic Stranglers production

  • I don't care if he is an arse, he's also a f#$king genius. Both him and the band have suffered from the breakup, although both have had some good albums (many BAD). The Stranglers couldn't have done Norfolk Coast with Hugh, or Hugh couldn't have made Guilty the the boys. Original Stranglers R.I.P.

  • yeah still love this, however, hugh was and is still an ARSE... ARROGANT ARSE!! I just so looking forward to Manchester and roundhouse.. long live the stranglers WITHOUT THE ARSE!

  • Well said hihi! Saw Hugh couple of years back and..yep! - he's an arse of the highest calibre - didn't want to be there, didn't want to play Stranglers stuff - although he obviously has to to make a living! He was a total shit - I left.

  • Out of curiosity, do you actually KNOW the guy? Personally, I mean :) I don't know him but I actually think The Stranglers have suffered since he left... and if you read his biog, he gives valid reasons WHY he left! Fine singer and frontman, in my opinion... sorely missed! :)

  • class,fucking class.end of the world mate

wuggy, alive and still pissed of with wankers

  • great footage - where's it from?

  • what a beautiful song from the stranglers..Love it!

  • Wow, i love this song so much more now ive heard it live. Somtin about the keyboards sounds so much better than the studio version

  • i told you they were great

  • this is a JJ track.someting to do with the death of his dad

  • A great and relaxed TV performance of an engrossing track.

  • what a great performance/look the guys had back in 85....how cool are they! Always loved this song, it has a great tune and feel.cheers for posting!

  • not seen this one before, good one
