The reason why DQ doesn't really change its gameplay is because it still works for most people. They also tend to focus more on the storyline if anything in the main games.

The swordplay could have been used better. Special moves were hard to get to full power sometimes. And the exploration mechanics were so straightforward and repetitive that I would never ever ever play this game more than once. Unless I happen to be EXTREMELY bored.

I hate RPGs and I enjoyed this game. I only wish there was less of a story. While I realize this game is suposedly some-sort of RPG fans' game, I see it more like House of the Dead and wished it had shared the same kind of Fast pace twitch ation required to survive in an Arcade Rail Game. I like that you choose how fast you progress and wish games like HOTD would do the same, but unlike other RPGs, the Enemy encounters are not Random, which is what I was looking forward too. Without them gfx don't mean anything at all. This game is a very fun RPG and the gameplay is very different and unique from any other RPG I have ever played. GFX are fine in this game, not the best but fine. The art is very nice and also it's very accurate. I always get 85% to 95% accuracy ranks when I beat a travel quests.
Game sucked. Why? Because its so damn linear--from the castle to the dungeon the path is straight. Why make it 3d if you can't sidestep in battle or even deviate from a single file path of a line for essentially the entire game? Also the wii cursor keeps missing the damn enemies. I'm glad I rented it and didn't buy this console pos.

Super Mario Galaxy is amazing and beautiful to go with it. Without the great art style and music, it would be horribly empty and dull. Great but empty. No atmosphere.
How about Okami without the art style, it would take away alot from the game. The photorealistic shots look good but not suited for the feeling, emotion and all.

This isn't a new genre, a lot of the early RPGs used this type of format (save for sword swinging). Sword of Vermilion along with a few other RPGs used First Person and they were RPGs.
It's a hybrid of Action/RPG at best. It's a spin off title, and this game was geared for launch in Japan but was delayed.
Eh, new sub-genre then. The sword swinging gives it a new type of gameplay that has barely been done before and so there's little else to compare it to. I realize that Samurai Warriors Katana predated this (at least in the US) and there was actually a special Dragon Quest game you hooked directly to the TV just like this only in Japan, but that's nearly it.
I actually really like this game. Yes it does lack in story and it is a very short but there is more to it. The boss battles at the end open up and it is difficult to say the least. Always room to improve and with practice you can perfect your swing to get more than 80%.
I like Dragon Quest Swords too. A bite size adventure that introduces Arcade action RPG style. I am not an RPG gamer, as a matter of fact, I'll play House of The Dead or Gunstar Heroes before I would play most RPGs, but this game really captured my interrest enough to buy it and I like it.

This isn't a new genre, a lot of the early RPGs used this type of format (save for sword swinging). Sword of Vermilion along with a few other RPGs used First Person and they were RPGs.
It's a hybrid of Action/RPG at best. It's a spin off title, and this game was geared for launch in Japan but was delayed.
Just me nitpicking.

Eh, new sub-genre then. The sword swinging gives it a new type of gameplay that has barely been done before and so there's little else to compare it to. I realize that Samurai Warriors Katana predated this (at least in the US) and there was actually a special Dragon Quest game you hooked directly to the TV just like this only in Japan, but that's nearly it.

I actually really like this game. Yes it does lack in story and it is a very short but there is more to it. The boss battles at the end open up and it is difficult to say the least. Always room to improve and with practice you can perfect your swing to get more than 80%.

I like Dragon Quest Swords too. A bite size adventure that introduces Arcade action RPG style. I am not an RPG gamer, as a matter of fact, I'll play House of The Dead or Gunstar Heroes before I would play most RPGs, but this game really captured my interrest enough to buy it and I like it.

yea but thats stuff, lol i get huge headaches when i do that lol, oh well what i can is on the days that i dont work, such as weekends, and vavcation time, but nevertheless great review, i know dragon quest was good on the nes and playstation, but they had to **** it up with swords, NOOOO!!! lol
