@545Krinkify No offense, but you're speaking from personal assumptions, not practical application or exercise. We've gone from AR SBR ballistics are shit, to yeah, 6.8 is better for shorter ranges, to stocks are bad, to lasers and shotguns for HD. All totally unrelated to the purpose of the video, showing the very limited recoil of the 6.8 SBR using a BABC. This particular setup, for me, works, maintains fundamentals that apply both indoors and outdoors, and allows for consistency in training
@545Krinkify At 27 inches in total length, stock isn't an issue indoors. Even better, can be deployed in vehicle from the driver's position without hitting the door frame. Platform stability is always a plus indoors or out. To stabilize a "stockless" PDW, accepted practice is to push out against the sling for stability. At that point your at the same overall length or more than something the size of this SBR.
Having built several AR's in both 5.56 and 6.8, recoil is unnoticeable.
@545Krinkify The idea behind this WAS with regards the barrel length, and the 6.5 wasn't even considered. For out past 600, there's better options than 6.5 as well. I know personally of 650 yd prarie dog kills with .223 rounds from a bolt rifle, I don't get the point.
The idea behind this is optimum performance from as short as possible barrel length within the 300 yard requirement. It is definitely NOT inteded to be competition for 6.5 (which, in the required standard, the 6.5 would lose).
@545Krinkify Ballistics aside? Really? Terminal effectiveness to 300yds from a 8.5" barrel is subpar? The only advantage to a folding stock is concealment, stability pushed out with a sling is nothing compared to a stock fixed into place. No advantage whatsoever there. Erosion problems are a non issue when properly cared for, and there's documented 30k+ round rifles with minimal cleaning on the AR platform to make that argument a non starter to the point it nauseating.
@545Krinkify There's plenty of actual research to support that the 6.8 is IDEAL for SBR's in the AR platform, with superior terminal performance over the 7.62x39 (and so much more than the 5.45). At over 400 yds, sure, the 6.5 is ideal, but not practical, as most engagements are within 300 yds. 85gr SSA ammunition chrono'd out to be effective to just over 300 yds out of this particular 8.5" setup, 120gr Hornady to over 225yds. Built to suit a purpose, and handles it most effectively.
Ok, I'm the owner of the SBR. To the smoke: Sun was right behind us, cutoff in the video makes it seem worse than it actually is. Is it smokey? Yes. Is it as bad as it appears in the video? No.
To the eyepro comments. We had ridiculous humidity with intermittent showers that day. My eyepro kept fogging up. Didn't have a choice if I wanted to see what I was aiming at.
The Battlecomp is ridiculously effective, not to mention, it's nowhere near as loud as my FSC556 on my 16" AR.
@griffonsec That is a damn fine weapon. That caliber has made a difference for the operators using it. In Afghanistan, we're able to engage targets more effectively at distance. In CQB, the results are ridiculous. If I were you, I would not worry about the naysaying, Youtube chairborne rangers. Nice choice, one sexy gun man.
@Comply0rDie Yeah, when I got to shoot it I did 3 rounds with the other comp he had on it, and 3 rounds with the battlecomp comp on it and there was a pretty big difference in re-acquiring site picture with the battlecomp. It was much easier, like shooting a .22 mag.
Very cool looking gun. Definitely a lot of smoke. Maybe the weather is cold and that is hot exhaust air but the guy is wearing short sleeves. How has the reliability been?
a lot of smoke ? expose the location is it ?
