  • I'm opposed to the idea of heroes but i have to admit....frank zappa is my hero!

  • I'd so kill for that shirt.

  • His mustache is mesmerizing. It's like a black hole or a bottomless pit or something.

  • the genious

  • I'm feeling pretty avant-garde today.

  • Most epic 'stache of rock. Bar none.

  • SITE SYMPA ET GRATUIT SUR OBONNESANNONCES.FR

  • can you believe that rolling stones in the top 100 list put kurt cobain above this musical genius!! fucking shameful man!

  • @DRGK9 yup, thats how rolling stone is...pandering to popular tastes, not much credibility. They blew it a long time ago....yet, nobody filled the gap.

  • Zappa RULES all todays MUSIC

  • He was in my dream last night, came to my house and told me that he wants me to join his band and that we leave to start touring that night. It was pretty intense!

  • @pakleglia Point taken.

  • "Do you want the real reason or do you want a television reason?"

    We miss you, Frank.

  • is it true that frank was T total he didnt drink alcohol or take drugs??

  • @Yamah12a It is well known that Zappa was very outspoken against illicit drug use. He said in an interview "drugs are a license to be an asshole". So, I think it's safe to say his experiences with them were VERY LIMITED, if at all.

  • @MCMCsimulation u's a totally sounds a perrrrty stttupid. a duuh.

  • "Yes, I am very Avant Garde right now. I am about as Avant Garde as I have ever been, right at this very moment." Watch as he is trying not to crack up laughing as he is saying that.

  • For those of you who may think Zappa is not "happy" during many of these interviews, it's because the interviewer is not a good at interviewing. They don't give a shit about Zappa's music and he knows it. If you want to hear a REALLY good Zappa interview then search for "The Mother of All Interviews." Frank seems very content and the questions are actually about his music and not the same old trivia crap that all rock artists get asked about.

  • @cosmicrat I KNOW.

  • he predicted Metalllica S&M

  • Why does he think that the airplane and mc5 did political stuff for the wrong reasons?

  • @hesteaeble Well he says that Jefferson Airplane made political music to sell records...it could be argued that they jumped on the bandwagon of many 60's causes like the anti-Vietnam movement and so on. MC5 were quite sensational politically, as Zappa said. They said a lot of radical things in interviews, possibly to get attention. Both bands are still great hough , even if their politics are questionable.

  • We could offer God Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga in exchange for Frank, but he'd probably still want something else, as those two bozos will never come close to the genius that was Frank.. We need Frank back more than ever now.

  • I am the most avante garde as i have ever right now.

By saying this he is being avante garde by being self aware.

  • Inimitable.

  • interviewer: Frank you have long hair, does that make you a woman?

Frank: you have a wooden leg, does that make you a table?

    legend

  • I currently live in the Baltimore M,d//franks birth area many people even here.think of him as ahippy novelty.I today and always thought of him as musical geuinus.his endevor in politics should have been taken more serious. although the beltway basstards would have had to dig ahole to hide there unscrupulishs pathetic persons he stands almost alone in the area of music at his peake populartyatrully brillent man.thanks frank!

  • @TheOffcialACCFans

agreed the man was a genius

I also live in Baltimore, his lyrics musical talent deep psychological nature humor and many other talents are indeed taken for granted, he didn't just play music he lived it.

  • @DKWegley ... cool shit.

  • Frank was a man that got into the spot light early in life and was able to achieve success despite the power against him. Once you gain the momentum to success you can write your won ticket and Frank Zappa did just that and made sure that you would be here to hear it after he is dead and gone and that my friends is what music displays as a champion in music and share the spot light with Henry Mancini.

  • he would be the best music teacher ever

  • I wish the cameraman would stop staring at his tits.

  • Ah a few more guitar lessons and he'll be grand.. :L

  • i just started to learn about zappa and i have to say i am absolutely fascinated!

  • @plastikmaiden thats what i'm doing now!

  • In a word, ok...three words, GENIUS! SHEER GENIUS!

  • OH MY GOD!! He managed to step outside of his time and have totally genuine clear opinions that will ring clear and true forever. I don't think the interviewer really appreciates what's being said, but can you blame him? There are so few people who have credibilty outside of the time they lived in. Zappa was one.

  • ARGH, I just hate how we Finnish people (well others, not me) pronounce English. It sounds SO awkward.

  • @Deathshuck Ever heard a Dutch person speaking English? I think the Finnish accent is alright.

  • He's music keeps getting rediscovered over and over again. It is still as fresh and vivid as ever. What a brilliant mind he was. RIP.

  • mitä vittua... ihmettelin vähn ku paidassa luki iltatähti... sit alko suomen aksentti kuulumaan : D

  • lui era il mio maestro

  • Frank Zappa was a true American Icon. Political. Instrumental. And one of a kind.

    Rest In Peace, my friend.

  • Frank's explanation of harmonic language puts so simply what I've been trying to grasp for years. What a guy.

  • This was Frank at his BEST!!

  • he always said he is ugly but i think he is one of the most beautyful people i have ever saw

  • 1:06

    i think he is srcastic

  • Gawd, he's giving full on answers. I wish I had known about him but I think it's significant that I discover him now and his legacy.

  • One of the best things about Zappa is that her never goes "Errrrrrr" when being asked a question, etc. Stipe also never does this either.

  • I think Jesus did come to earth a second time and his chosen name was Frank Vincent Zappa.

  • Very intelligent and insightful

  • do you want the real reason or the television reason?

    xD

  • By God, that is a human being. That guy had an outstanding reason to be arrogant, ya homo.

  • By God, that is a human being.

  • great interview by an unquestionably great artist. yeah different with his jazz/rock fusion, ahead of the others, and then that attitude. he was what he was, even till the end.

  • Comment removed

  • Always was and always will be brilliant AND entertaining. R.I.P. F.Z.

  • the fist fight lmfao .

  • ..lol i love the enigmas

  • @pulmon66 well, he is getting questions asked about himself, so answering in the 1st person is way less obnoxious than answering in the 3rd person.

  • @pulmon66 FUCK YOU! Go back to listing to Christina Aguilera, you ignorant skidmark. Eat a bag of dicks.

  • @mikey11147 best insult evah!!!

  • @mikey11147 That's such an ignorant response.. as i do disagree with his comment. Yours is just as shitty. Having an open mind on music is so important...Like what pleases you, and whatever doesn't don't let it bother you..

  • @pulmon66 Huge, huge, huge faggot^

  • @pulmon66 You're one silly fruitcake to come to that conclusion. And really, if you don't somehow get off on the experience, why would you even be here?

  • @pulmon66 I agree. He was a serious narcissist.

  • @pulmon66 No, what a disgusting ignorant twat YOU are.

  • @pulmon66 Gee, someone talking about himself in an INTERVIEW? You know, something where someone asks you about yourself? Why, how horrible!

  • Man I wish I could have met this guy. Hes such a cool guy. Just chilled out, and logical.

  • Read the rear side of the interviewers t - shirt. You will find it funny

  • Musicians - pay attention to 2:58 onwards.

    I did not know this.

Zappa is a total legend :)

I'm learning from stuff he said before I was born.

  • he thought he was ugly, but i always found him to be insanely attractive. and what a versatile, original musician!

  • @thehurtline I don't think he thought he was ugly. Where have you heard that? I once heard him say he had an unplesant look, but that doesen't hean he thought of himself as ugly.

  • @superkulmedkniv25 here's a quote "I have an important message to deliver to all the cute people all over the world. If you're out there and you're cute, maybe you're beautiful. I just want to tell you somethin' — there's more of us UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS than you are, hey-y, so watch out."

  • @superkulmedkniv25 and in one of his last interviews, they asked him why he was singled out for talking smack about government and stuff, even though other people do it... and he said "because i'm ugly... you take a guy with a big nose and weird hair and people ask 'what is wrong with this guy?" (or something along the lines of that...) i mean, he was obviously not the 'pretty boy' type, and probably wouldn't have gotten famous if he was born in more recent times just because of that...

  • @thehurtline Ok, i guess you're right. I think he still knew he was more attracting than those "cute guys" though...

  • @MeistroMac91 I hope this is a joke, because I can't hear sarcasm through a computer.

  • @MeistroMac91 I can't help but notice you trolling at least 5 other Zappa videos on youtube. You're entitled to your opinion but make no mistake, no-one else wants to read your juvenile slander of a music legend.

  • @MeistroMac91 so tell us what is real music ?

  • @MeistroMac91 Like most people, you've heard one of his song (no need to say it by name as you all now which one i'm talking about). Get your facts straight or shut it.

  • @MeistroMac91 nobody likes you and youre actually the nerd for saying that a legend is a "pessemistic nerd". you need to die.

  • @jsnake2014 Holy crap, and I commented on this old mans vid how long ago??? And I mean god forbid an original thought should intrude on your sea of lies. Mainstream isnt the only music on this planet.

  • @MeistroMac91 i didnt look at the date dumb ass. you are probably around 12 years old and dont know what youre talking about and just gonna lie to me through a computer so go fuck yourself. bye.

  • @jsnake2014 "I didnt look at the date" then u are the "dumb ass" trying to bring up stuff from the past. I said it before and ill say it again ppl only get famous cuz they are in the right place at the right time. and I mean what are u trying to get so patriotic about anyhow hes dead and he doesnt care about whats going on. You can go to hell and get ass fucked by satan u narrow minded asshole. dont write back .

  • @MeistroMac91 whats gonna happen if i do comment back? really? i mean you have no control over what i do. and that doesnt mean you can come on here and start dissing him just because hes dead with after catching shit from his fans. and no, he was tallented you never listen to his stuff obviously, he was much smarter than you. just accept the fact.

  • @jsnake2014 man how long ago did I write the damn comment

  • @MeistroMac91 doesnt really matter does it?

  • @MeistroMac91 zappa is not mainstream... that was an extremely ignorant comment... what kind of music do YOU listen to.

  • I love what he says in the interview, but the camera man seems to have some issues.

  • Very interesting perspective on things. So true to "the music".

  • Genius! Great mind.

  • all negative space and form

  • t shirts too tight , sweaty armpits surely? changing t shirts?? yuck

  • seriously I never used to listen to zappa but now I could say his amazing and a tastefully musically sence of humor which makes his music pore interesting RIP frank zappa you said in one of your last interviews that you wouldn't like to be remember but guess what you will always be remember

  • I miss you, Hip Cat Daddy, you made me laugh, until I cried. Yeah, we both loved our coffee at Coopers Donuts. Free re-fills

    The Groovy Hippie Chick

  • This interview is actually a very short, but very advanced music theory lesson.

    Hear the Prophet speak!

  • Interviewer, FZ, and cameraman are all high...without a doubt.

  • @courtnieJ Actually, Frank did not use any drugs, and would not tolerate it from any of his musicians (except beer, and then very strictly not during sessions or practice). He said it made them stupid. It may seem surprising, but it was pretty common knowledge that Frank Zappa looked down his long nose at all drugs except cigarettes and coffee, which he consumed constantly.

  • @rumpledilskin You're right, of course, but he really does look high here -- his movements, facial expressions, etc... Maybe he was sleep deprived, or maybe he was high on nicotine and caffeine; he appears to be smoking especially intensely. Maybe he felt the effects of his two drugs more than most people do. ... On the subject of his looking down his nose, it seems he could be arrogant and likable, even charming, at once. Rare trick.

  • @jimirymodestoca Indeed. Rare man. I can't help but think that we need him now more than ever.

Long nose to look down, too...

    You are missed Frank.

  • Tobacco was his favourite vegetable.

  • @MegaYoshitsune he said that during an interview about his cancer, he is great

  • @MegaYoshitsune No way, american was his favourite vegetable.

  • I think "The Mother's Auxiliary" would have been a hilarious name, with the connotation attached. Still, props for defying.

    >..

He is not much of a smoker.

  • I think "The Mother's Auxiliary" would have been a hilarious name, with the connotation attached. Still, props for defying.

  • There ought to be a Zappa in every state.

  • dommage que dans pas mal de vidéos il n'y a pas les sous titres français

  • I respect Frank Zappa as a person more than most musical artists. He's a wonderful conversationalist and seems like a "real", good, sensible guy. From what I hear, he has raised a great, tight, supportive family.

  • 1:03-1:11 LOL his rapier wit and sharp tongue---such an exceptionally intelligent soul.A dear friend of mine and I used to imagine the musical and creative partners that Zappa could work with. [ I remember prince always was in the top 10 lol {real prince enthusiasts and fans know why :) } --- tho we would agree that whomever it was would have a tougher time trying to play with frank than vice vera.Prince has always been able to adapt to any music and Zappa knows artists strengths/weakness]

  • who is the composer he mentions in regards to tone colors and whatever else he says.

  • @TheButthead420

    Edgar Varese and Stravinsky.

check out Ionisation by Varese, trippy shit. Apparently he loved the sound of the alarm in it haha

  • frank was a genius

  • Man, the 70s were cool

  • What a bad ass sexy ass motherfucker

  • Yo Russallert, Why are you on this site? If you knew anything at all about F.Z. it was that he didn't give a fuck about reaching the green day audience. Frank played for his OWN enjoyment and if others enjoyed it as well, then so be it. Now go back and practice your smoke on the water chords, MANGIARE MERDA E MORIRE...

  • If you're on this site it's not by accident, you ARE a Frank fan. This man was with out a doubt the most influential musician of our life time. Young people in music theory will be studying his works for ions. To say that he is missed is an understatement, their has never been and never will be another man of his abilities. Can you just imagine all the events over the past 10 years that he would have slammed? OK, now make sure you all are in Baltimore on Sept. 19th for the statue celebration

  • Frank Zappa had a truly honest and inspiring personality which he easily transfered over to his music.

Wether you agree with his thinking or even like his music you still must respect him.

  • Frank was the last true musical genius of our time. There wont be anyone like him for a very long time.

  • Frank is Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yes, i am about as avante guarde as i've ever been *smirk*

  • the t-shirt with the nixon quote is glorious.

  • An amazing musician who actually didnt do drugs.

  • Am i the only one who is reminded of Freddie Mercury ?

  • @russallert

are you retarded? zappa's whole philosophy behind song-writing WAS to be a selfish artist. why would he write music for an audience if HE didn't enjoy it? people who recreate three chord pop songs are the ones accountable for the horrid musical culture in america ever since the 50's, really. Good music can't be defined. If it IS about communication it was clearly between his music and himself. if you as a listener enjoy it, awesome, if you don't, so be it. there are no rules in music

  • @odoylerules47 "There are no rules in music."

Zappa would be the first to tell you you're wrong about that.

  • @narozzz

    whats your favorite zappa album

  • @1m2a3t4t5 - That's a tough one, actually. "...For the Money" is just staggeringly brilliant and sounds like it could be a musical, to hilarious and awe-inspiring effect. "Hot Rats" is....Hot Rats. What else needs to be said? "Freak Out!" and "Absolutely Free" are often dismissed as mere blueprints for "....Money", but all three possess some unique variation on the MOI sound, aesthetic and ideology, not to mention atmosphere. Also, I find "Burnt Weeny" oddly addictive; side two makes a (cont.)

  • @narozzz - (cont.) great case for the Mothers OF INVENTION as a tight, just about virtuosic, but clearly awesome band, not just Zappa's clumsy sherpas who were the only ones willing to climb THAT mountain. Black and Estrada lock in and rock out like true MOTHERS in that "Little House", without a doubt. Furthermore, I firmly believe -in spite of my spotty knowledge on the subject- that if one must pick ONE 70's record, it's Roxy & Elsewhere. Hands. DOWN.

  • @narozzz - *An admission - I have yet to absorb my copy of "The Grand Wazoo" front-to-back as of yet. This just HAD to be the week it became clear that the fifty bucks for a new needle was an absolutely necessary investment before ANY further listening could safely be had, now didn't it? *groan*......

  • @narozzz

thanks for the reply, would you say frank zappa albums himself are better to listen to or mothers of invention

  • @1m2a3t4t5 - Well, you can't REALLY seperate the two, but the MOI albums truly made history, and they're still a bit terrifying. In many ways they may be viewed as a link between the Velvet Underground and the rest of the Sixties, where they apparently never really belonged. Everybody knows "Over-Nite" and "Apostrophe(')", and they're fine albums, but "Roxy" is the one everyone should hear. Everything that positively distinguished that period in one place, in peak form and hugely appealing.

  • @narozzz

cool, so besides Frank Zappa what are some of your other favorite artists/bands

  • @narozzz - *My feelings about the "Zoot"/"Sheik"/"Joe's Garage" aesthetic are pretty redundant for the most part, in that if you've ever read anything about Zappa, you've likely heard some version of them. As for the orchestral stuff, not my department at the moment, but I'm interested in hearing more of it. "More" meaning whatever that means in Zappa's world. Listen, I know next to nothing about the guy. I own ONLY FIFTEEN of his albums! Pathetic, right? You're probably wondering why I'm here!

  • @russallert I knew and loved Zappa. We had such fun giving the Rabbi's the business on Fairfax and guess what, C-U-N-T- fits you perfectly. I don't think The Hip Cat Daddy would have to look any further than CUNT to describe you. Who are you to say what Zappa understood? It is obvious you understand nothing, music being only the beginning of your delusion. You have no idea how creative Zappas was. He was a genius composer and could work in any style. But best of all, he made me laugh!

  • @russallert Hi russ, just fuck all you clowns and shutup a sec, ... russ - Frank was not a wanker, nope. To say this that they aren't a wanker about someone they have to be a serious person and Frank was a serious person who found the world to be absurd, imagine that; right? And you can't say he was so selfish either, he was a performer and a performance is 'given' so he gave. He also sold records from his house, what a cool guy. I don't like much of his music either but some I love + I love him

  • @russallert Frank Zappa was (or ssould I say IS) an iconoclast I-C-O-N-O-C-L-A-S-T . Maybe you do not get it; his art was not so much a positive, life affirming thing that most people go for in pop music. He was fucking with THE WIRING UNDER THE BOARD. Most people don't understand the subleties of SELF PARODY, IRONY & PARADOX; If you don't get Zappa, then Bowie is a start. Yes, he was something of a "self important artist", but I, personally, will take NO criticism of the music of the Mothers.

  • @russallert - Quit perpetuating a false dichotomy - it's all about how WELL the given harmonic language is USED as a means to communicate. Zappa adored both "The Rite of spring" and "Louie, Louie". Makes sense to me.

  • Frank zappa can fuckin do interviews like a mother fucker haha

  • He was a great man. And I appreciate your sentiment. But your use of the language is an insult to his intelligence.

  • @scarbowl Good Point! But he was about non censorship, and the term mother fucker was used by frank as a compliment and it was used to name "the mothers"

  • This is frank at his best talking about the music that he loved.

  • He was clearly a smart man, you couldn't tell by his appearence alone. Then again, many smart people have a unique, rugged, and sometimes over the top look. Miss ya Frank!!

  • @Classicfan67 and all of your wonderful weirdness

  • @Classicfan67 That appearance comes from his italian, arabic and french ancestry. The first two are stressed more than the last.

  • @Defsolid yeah his daughter Moon looks very italian, hence why she is so beautiful.

  • Man this guy died way too early

  • @ComfortablyNumb849 all the great ones do

  • The cameraman is really diggin' Franks t-shirt.

  • @greenfruitface Actuaully they changed t-shirts before the interview. So Frank is wearing a t-shirt of the interviewer, and the interviewer is wearing Frank's shirt.

  • @cosmicrat I don't buy that

  • @greenfruitface that shirt is pretty neat!!

  • Zappa was a wizard, a magic-maker.

  • Hey I live in Pomona CA and at this one liquor store they got an old flyer of The Mothers from 1965!

  • Genius.

  • Frank Zappa is like Jesus but real

  • @FoxIslandman Don't forgot bicycles.
