  • That's cool and stuff, but I usually use the floor.

  • @JoseGalvez08 They might have expected ancient sumerians to develop a global internet at the same time as the early cuneiform writing system. :P

  • point?

  • NICE!!

  • pra que serve este troço????

  • 4 boxes are okay,,,

try use 9 boxes are the best

  • cant you just stay on one of them and let it move for you?

  • @bobsonenzo thats not the idea of it, it's so that you can change the movement of a real person into data on a computer and then use that to control and ingame character effectivly creating a virtual reality.

  • This project was humorous before but now it's getting dangerous! If he needs to walk over a hill but doesn't see it, he'll end up sticking his foot inside the guts of the machinery before falling!

  • That just means the the machines will be helping us in ridding the world of blind people. I can say that because no blind person will be able to read this.

  • @youfallopiantube1 did you take into account that there is such thing as a accesability machine it basically reads out the page in brail! using little bars under a peice of rubber which sticks out through another layer of plastic which has little holes in it. then to add on to that there are keyboards made in brail

  • Get a treadmill.

  • ha ha

he walkiing in REAL world not in virtual.....

  • he was talking about the usage of it..

it could be like the wii, but with the feet included.

  • TOO slow

  • They would develop it... everything must go through its early stages...

  • ok and other then moving in a virtual environement is there any practical use for this?

  • star trek holo-deck!

  • stumbled upon

  • ಠ_ಠ

  • let's see what happens when you stick a extra fat guy on there :P

  • This would make Oblivion be AWESOME!

  • Very Nice

    but...

What the point of this? 0_o

  • well imagine when you have virtual reality headsets or just tv glasses and your walking around in games, going up stairs etc without leaving the house. good no?

  • lol yer its basicly a tredmill witch is in 4 peaces and probably has a stupid price tag

  • very innovative, high imagination lets people create great piece of engineering..

this 4 robots integrated by each other

  • INCREÍBLE!!

  • When they can make these thiings hover, we will finally have houses in the sky.

  • this could be a component of the star trek holodeck in five years

just bump up the speed a notch, add more and bam! I would buy them

  • Nice moving floor concept for a real life HOLODECK . Just add VR goggles and you're in business.

  • use more units

  • That would be the best sidewalk to a house ever.

  • hah only one thing i found odd, was the big BUT that 3D model had to have lol!

  • :)) funny

  • Very nice idea. Awesome concept.

But of course it has to be sped up.

I'm also not sure if the square is the optimal shape for this, especially if you want to map curves.

  • but think about it when they will be up to speed and can cover a person's running speed (which the floors will be cycling very fast), pretty scary if you tripped and something went wrong with the machines n your leg gets in between the two floors or your head... ouch

  • and...... whats the point of this?

  • "and...... whats the point of this? "

eventually, you can plug yourself into a virtual reality world playing a soldier in a battlefield running and shooting while in reality you're just playing in a small room with a vr goggle and running in the same spot holding a vr gun.

  • Like a treadmill? Yeah, I think someone has already invented those.

  • treadmill can't move diagonally or sidestepping , when running you can't make a sudden stop and stand still immediately (you will trip if you do this on treadmill)

  • so, no, not like a treadmill

  • no not like a treadmill moveing in all directions is something that is one of the problems createing realistic vr games theres already headsets with guns but no body movement with that its posible maybe in about 2-5 years >.> 2 years if they can use the bases of games they have no and implement the controles into a vr system and 4 years if they cant 5 or more if there not seriosly working on it

  • Well they had that giant hamster ball thing for a while. I'm just not sure virtual reality is that usefull outside of cockpit simulators.

  • it isent at the moment but as soon as someone comes up with a way to make it cheep and a way to mass produce it + put something like games on it then everyone gunna want one XD

  • I think most ppl dont realise they potential this has for virtual reality applications

  • yeah, true for virtual reality of course its more practical that way. I was just imagining too much of a sci-fi thing where a person can just walk pretty much everywhere he wants in x y z direction only with few floating platforms ;P

  • Cool. Now I can live in a house without flooring. Think of all the time I'll save cleaning.

  • gayyyyyy

  • how bout i stand on one and the little thing takes me to 7-11 for a slurpee? Or better yet, program it to go get me one itself.

  • its just a bunch of roombas configured differently.

  • Think of the uses for this in virtual reality games. It's got potential.

  • One word.... Treadmill.

  • So essentially u can walk forever?

  • biggest waste of money ever. congrats!

  • Thank goodness I wondered when someone would finally invent a floor that you can walk on without getting anywhere. Where can I get this for home use?

  • what is the application?

  • it would make a good exercise machine.

  • cool XD they need to make em faster though probably for virtual game or fucking clean freaks that cant step on floors XD

  • This seems like a great way to delay old people from getting places.

  • dont need technology to do that, just ask them how the war went.

  • good concept, wonder how they can make it fast enough for running though

  • i think for running, the robots would have to be working very very very fast, maybe in the future only...

  • wow, this is gonna kill the tiling industry...oh! here's another idea - MAKE THEM LOUDER!!!! WINKWINK

  • What happens if you try to run?

  • WOW that was fun to watch. I wonder if the makers of this are trying to create some kind of game?

  • okay for those who don't get it this is created for walking in a virtual environment.

"Why don't they just use an omni-directional treadmill?"

Because you simply can't create the sensation of height with it, and it has its limitations.

Now it seems really pointless, but if they can make this thing faster, smaller and more complex, we could walk in a virtual world.

But, maybe even this isn't enough for a walk in a virtual space, but this may be the foundation for something more complex.

  • this could possibly be advantageous in creating virtual reality video games

  • LOL wtf ,why dont they just make the 1 platform, the person can stand on it, then just move that platform and the person doesn't need to walk...

  • it would have to be circular/pherical for 360 degrees of free movement.

  • lol i can understand watching this wen your high off your azz this would be cool... but this has to be the dumbest thing ive ever seen as far as inventions are concerned

  • So what is it good for?!!!!!!!!

  • I don't know. But they'll probably find usefull way to use this techology.

  • when will this ever come into good use?

  • this is dumb as fuck. of all the different solutions out there this is one of the stupidest.

  • This is useless, and anyone who doesn't realize it is a SERIOUS moron.

Why didn't they just build a floor that was like a tred mill that moved in different directions.

    DERRRRRRRR!!!!! DAAAAA DERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would have been more efficient, and less complicated.

    JESUS CHRIST

To think that someone was smart enough to build this floor but dumb enough not to realize that a "move-in-any-direction" treadmill mill would have been 1,000,000,000,000X better, and easier to construct....

  • I can't wait for a halodeck in my closet!!! ha

  • a treadmill that works in all directions!

  • and to think we could be curing cancer!!

  • This could actually be the start of a great idea. Those of you who think it's useless need to think ahead. If they could continue to upgrade it to the speed of the CG videos, we would have a serious breakthrough on our hands...

  • why was this built? Are we running out of ground to walk on?

  • Cool! A robot that gets you literally nowhere!

  • wow i cant believe there are so many people who think this is useless...straight over your heads!

  • I cant belive someone actually spent alot of money on this.. thing?

  • No, it is straight over your head, etnelav. A simple treadmill that moved in any direction would be easier to construct and more practical.

This "machine" that these people have built is completely worthless and inefficient.

  • its the begining of the outdoorsimulator:D you walk along and see lots of stuff but youre actually not moving at al

  • if those block scould fly well it would be usefull but like this no diss but its useless

  • What the fuck is the point

  • that is cool lol ahahahah

  • seriously what the fuck is this for?is this suppose to replace elevators?this is useless technology that has no serious helping in everyday life.show me the cure for aids then i will really be impressed

  • just what i were thinkin about

  • Useless.

  • WOW, great for video game

  • imagine playing CoD VR with this!

  • what if a nigga jogging

  • Put ASIMO on it, see how it goes. xD

  • wouldn't a treadmill have the same purpose???

  • It could, but a treadmill is unidirectional, something like this could potentially go 360 and coupled with a Virtual Reality unit you might be able to be in home walking around in the palaces of Rome! Open your brain to the possibilities! Japanese aren't just doing this because they're dumb and like to build robots! Jeez!

  • I don't see any real useful application for this

  • Star Trek Voyager,

    Xmen Danger Room

this is how you explain infinite distance in a holographic projection room.

  • if the circulafloor could float in air.....

  • good if you intend to walk really slow lol. But still pretty cool

  • how long have you been living on this planet son? the first mass marketed IBM PC was 5 Mhz. this is how all technology starts out.

  • cool but useless

  • exactly, what's the point of this?

  • man people cant you see it ???

this is the future!! i a few years many people will life in virtuall worlds. we will wear hads witch shows us this world, controler (like the Wii things) to akt in there and with this stuff we even could walk around in this Computer-world but staying in our room!!

and dude, this crazy cyberworld is comming to be our reality belive me!! (see WoW and stuff!)

  • yeah i thought that but this is useless but cool

  • big sigh.........

  • those were the same famous words uttered by Xbox and Sony execs when they heard about Nintendo's "Revolution," they said, who would want to play games using a remote control? the "revolution" got a name change before its release, it's now called, "Wii"

  • i know its awesome i want a robot!

  • wii sucked then and now.

  • So there's already hologram technology available and now this. Now they all they need to do is refine it and you've got a virtual reality training tool.

  • magneto did this in xmen...

  • How to walk like a retard

  • Yeah dude i dont get the point of it. Lol

  • man thast pretty sick lol haha

  • could be implemented in a game

moving at all direction without hitting the room wall

  • lol there are way better ways to make this =P

just a round thing u use in gyms to run that can move in all directions.

This is weird =P besides these things run on batteries or something which is stupid and wont last long

  • watch?v=nJKWhYcXW5o

  • Free The West Memphis Three!!!!!

  • it's too slow..

  • Think of a virtual reality environment that you can walk around in, The idea is to create that illusion and obviously its not up to scratch yet but one day this will be useful

  • Is there a point to this? All you need is one that moves you.

  • thats what i thought. whats the use of this thing?

  • If you would've watched the video, this is designed to be employed in a virtual reality device so that you stay in one place while "walking" in the vr world.

  • why don't they just have one panel and it'll move around while your on it?

  • U dont get the idea of it , its meant to keep u in one place whilst u walk

  • well i was bored before and after watching tjhis video it gave me some entertaintment and encouraged me to keep watching haha :] nicely done.

  • this shit is dumb

  • maybe it's for ya i got nothing l8r

  • But can it fry an omelette ?

  • Treadmill?

Who knows how this may be used productively in the future, but for right now?

What do they think they are aiming at?

  • Did you watch the video? He explicity states its designed for VR simulations.

  • Oops. Thanks!

    (Wacking forehead with open palm...)

  • this is a revolutionary step toward the future, it may look not as useful now, and quite slow in terms of walking but it will develop into a great invention in the future

  • who would want to walk that slow???

  • for a second there i thought it was made by sony. haha

  • Wii Walk?

    I'd buy eet.

  • Seems like a treadmill would be a much simpler solution. It doesn't turn, but big deal. Most of the time people walk just forwards or backwards, anyway. The turning could be done with a hand control or something, and the treadmill could move forward again when it's needed.

  • The point is to make motion more natural. Do you use a hand control to turn in real life?

  • Comment removed

  • wow that's uhh gay

  • roombas u can step on

  • that is weird

  • Don't step on the lava.

  • Yeah a virtual room like the one on startrek i get it, goodstuff man.

  • There could be some good aplications. For example, desiging a house inside a computer then going on a virtual tour without needing a major setup,

At the moment it is slow and you can't take big steps but speed will come with time. I say hats of to those who made this.

BTW, I would like to play the original doom with this xD anyone going to stick the doom music + game play to this vid?

  • Pretty Much Useless.!

  • Naah, in the future they might have floating ones, instead or stairs, they might have 4 of those floating and you just climb. :) Saves space and shit.

  • Well If It was hovring,

Then We Got Something In our Hands.!

  • Nice video! (It sucks)

Watch my video's, they are better than this stupid shit... Why would you walk on tat poop?

  • go back to our game runescrap.

  • By the virtues! What vile magic invaded Daventry?!

  • lol. a Star*

Because we all know a circleO would have infringed copy right.

  • Don't step on the lava.

  • At last someone has invented a million dollar device to stop janitors walking back over their newly polished floor:)

  • to bad u need to wattle on em, and what would the point of haveing a moveable floor other then advancing technological stand points?

  • Only if it could hover instead of using wheels. Oh well, still pretty cool

  • This would be great for the future of video gaming. I could imagine wearing a mask to view the screen, wii type controls, and the ability to walk any direction in the game, while always staying in the same place. Pretty cooL!

  • Cool concept. I don't see it being practical or even usable for many years but as an idea it's got a lot of potential.

  • what is the point of having this...

  • i'd like have one

  • A hexagonal plate can rebuild the path faster. I think.

Pressure sensors can improve the precision too.

  • lol what is that bullshit the new playstation

  • YaaayYYY I would like to play WoW with this floor xD

  • It would be way better a square full of rolling pieces, so you can walk with any speed, and this square dusun't move, just the rolling pieces you step it.

  • They're doing it wrong :) Omnidirectional treadmill just seems righter

  • That was what I thought!

  • Agree, it seems more effecient since does not require individual robots constantly cercling around you.

  • This is fucking goofy.

  • I sure hope scrolling, low-contrast subtitles isn't something that catches on.

  • WOW a Rumba you can step on!

  • WOah, they invented a treadmill once again...

  • a faster, more quiet version could be used for simulations.. think of what great games we could make. glasses and earphones, the running on (as said above..) faster and quieter version, linked to a game. combined with what nintendo did with wii, wireless controls held in your hands. imo it could be improved alot. + not just games, but training different people (i dont know what really XD maybe military or such)

  • this is somewhat a better design then the treadmill that went in all four ways (forgot the name), because this can easily be fit in a living room

  • i remembered the name - Omnidirectional treadmill

  • holodeck?

  • this is frakin fantastic!!!

  • wow! imagine 3D first person shooter games on this floor!!! the future rocks!!
