Don't put all the press clippings on top and obscure his dancing! You're killing the very thing you're trying to promote! Let his performance speak for itself!! Get that crap off the screen and let The Man do this thing!!!!
I miss James Brown. His music has been a part of my life since I was about ten years old. Funk just ain't funk without James Brown's special brand of funk.
Why the hell would you put those freaking newspaper adds over his face and his performance? That is stupid as hell. What the heck do you think people go to you tube for? To watch a live show or to read freaking newspaper articles?! It's called the side bar. The lower screen, even. Seriously... figure it out. This is infuriating.
Man, he must have been doin a lot of cocaine during this version....its a lot faster than some of his other versions...the band probably just had to keep up with him...still great though
@petree81 - Mr. Brown played his hits faster in concert throughout his career. From 1979 to 1988 they were even a bit faster. It has nothing to do with any drugs Mr. Brown may or may not have taken.
@jayman138: Yer kiddin', right? I used to rush home from school to watch "American Bandstand" with Dick Clark to see stars like James Brown, Little Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and so many others. White kids were DIGGIN' black music from Little Richard on when it comes to pop, and even 35 years before Little Richard in jazz. Ever heard of Louis Armstrong? Dick Clark rightly called JB the title "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business."
@tomthefunky - Don't be an ignorant jackass. Mr. Brown played his hits faster during this part of his career because he wanted to, not because of any illegal or legal drugs he may have taken.
At some point around 1980, J.B.'s show was virtually patented. He would run through the same song repatore. Most songs, including Get Up Offa That Thing, were typically spead way up, with no groove, just a run through. Occasionally, he would toss in some lost classic. Try to find and listen to "Shout and Shimmy," by James Brown, you can hear what is behind the Rolling Stone's success.
@Buckeyecat2002 - There was plenty of groove there. You guys who complain that funk can't be fast are clueless. Funk is better fast. Most of James Brown's songs sound much better sped up in concert than they do on the original studio recordings. I'll take a fast James Brown anyday over slow boring Parliament/Funkadelic.
Quirky arrangement and performance of a classic from a "lean" period, chartwise for JB. Great band...but something mising...despite the busy arrangement.
At this point - c. 1985? - I wished that he regrouped (literally) and brought back Clyde, Maceo, and others; plus some things like "Let Yourself Go" and "Lickin' Stick". In the last 20-21 years of his career there were only occasional surprises in the setlist.

I am so happy that Michael Jackson worshiped the ground James Brown sweat on. We were so lucky to have had them both. Brilliance to the max. xox
James looks esp pretty in this performance, imo.

this looks to be between '78 and '81.
I love JB but it seems rushed-not up to his usual greatness.

I strongly believe we're looking at 1984-85.
