Thw whistle is to draw the guards to the station so it gives him more breathing space to move without being seen.

And sitting in the back provides better vantage to shoot anyone that fires at the truck. Passenger's seat is a bit vulnerable as not all angles can be seen.

It's not an FPS, it's a survival horror game, so it's obviously not got a crosshair, but you can enter aim mode with a weapon, like you would aim in real life.

I can help you with the book part of that desire. The author whose works this game is based on is H.P. Lovecraft. He didn't write books because he was a Pulp Fiction writer, all his works are short stories that you can buy in collections at bookstores.
