  • I want it tattooed: "Play William by Mount Kimbie on the day they bury me."

  • Your vid is popular on Sweden

  • reminds me of driving back from my stupid boarding school through london and staring at the window and VIBING

  • nostalgia

  • Your video is a favorite on Jamaica

  • Beautiful... makes me feel like i'm in a rainy forest, but the rain's going up... Off the flowers, off the ferns and moss, off me, from the ground.

  • gechillter scheiß.

  • AHHH, why da f do people care about genres so much, the only thing that should be set in stone is the name of the song and the artist everything else is opinion. Genres are just arguement starters.

  • I was so scared for a minute that people were actually serious about mentioning certain unfitting artists as dubstep. The world we live in is full of stupid people, I wouldn't be surprised.

But moving onto the video... I think this band is great, and will certainly be investigating into them further. This sounds so eerie, but not in an unpleasant sort of way. I could fall asleep to this without a problem. Very relaxing.

  • top rated comments on this are so pretentious smh, how about some mention of the fact that this should be 20 years long?

  • I'm so fucking sick of all these morons who don't know the difference between actual dubstep music and house/electro/whatever tracks with LFO wobbles on them......... don't classify music if you don't know what you're talking about. just shut up and listen.

  • is it just me hearing a bit of the silent hill 2 soundtrack in here? white noiz man i can hear it

  • does it really matter what genre this is, mount kimbie is mount kimbie and people should enjoy it for that and there entrancing sound not because it might be dub-step or chill wave or whatever silly genres people are making up these days.. stop arguing and trying to be 'cool' by listening to dub-step and just enjoy it because it's nice music!!!!

  • wonkstep

  • supreme

  • i have only realized that they actually sampled basinski in this track

  • So what exactly stops William Basinski and Mount Kimbie to do a collaboration?

  • the vocal is james blake singing the following:

"and if i felt like i knew myself then maybe i could start to rectify the situation, but i'm cheated by the process and i cannot stop thinking i should try for some explanation."

  • I don't rate Burial that highly, many of my friends do. It's definitely nice to have pioneers making uber chilled stuff but his stuff just doesn't click with me. Much prefer MK.

  • I'd say that Burial in his own right, is nothing short of a musical genius. I also say that Mount Kimbie, in their own right, are nothing short of musical genius' too. Everybody wins, I get to spark up and listen to this, and we all live happily ever after.

    The end.

  • it's simple: Post-dubstep

  • @jojonewsom think the genre is called chill wave. sort of sucks in a way but also kinda cool, that the mount kimbie sound has created a whole genre. sucks cos i started hearing songs that i thought were kimbie but turned out it was someone else when i once thought the mt kimbie's sound was pretty individual, but cool cos how freakin awesome would it be to invent/pioneer a new genre!

  • @zuziatree While Mount Kimbie certainly is a pretty unique sounding electronic group, I don't think they really invented chillwave, and I wouldn't really call them a chillwave artist in the first place. The term "chillwave" was coined by the guy who writes the Hipster Runoff, which is kind of a satirical blog. Most subgenres of electronic music are pretty loosely defined, but people seem to describe Mount Kimbie as "post-dubstep," which is a silly name if you ask me.

  • @PrivateBuckwheat i've just recently heard that term been coined to them and others who share teh same sound, personally i dont like the name chill wave, and i kind of prefer post-dubstep haha tho it mostly doesnt share the same characteristics that make 'dubstep'. tho pshhh to genres :) its just *good* music

  • @zuziatree That's the right attitude to have, I think! I think that with electronic music especially, genre names have become so convoluted that there's little point to even bothering with them; there's always going to be a snob who says "oh this isn't real dubstep" or "this doesn't sound like chillwave to me." Most music fits perfectly into one genre, it seems like we almost come up with a new term for every good artist. Anyway, I hope you keep enjoying good music, whatever genre it is or isn't

  • Its like the brainchild of Burial and Boards of Canada, amazing.

  • and higher

  • big beats man, absolute disgustin tunes

  • Loving that skateboarding sample

  • @SouthPawBrown haha i thought i heard a skateboard sample, brilliant

  • wow, just found out something really cool. the william refers to william basinski. check out the 6th track from his album melancholia. adds a cool dimension to the tune, love this one :)

  • @kem1kal I heard the first few seconds of this and I figured it must have been a reference to Basinski. Really cool!

  • I just got off the phone with mount kimbie. I asked them what genre and they told me. apparently this is "good" music, whatever that is.

  • how do you think of dubstep while listening to this? its just good listening, and neck breaking once the percussion comes in.

  • kind of reminds me of early dubstep like orbital and 808 state yeah totally guys. same thing with like goldie and ferry corsten. totally dubstep. totally awesome. like even metallica and judas priest were doing dubstep back in the day. aaron carter had a pretty good dubstep tracks too.

  • @shangrila42 Have you heard about this new dubstep group, Royksopp? They did the music in this one Geico commercial. Also, the Aphex Twin has this awesome dubstep track called "Avril 14th." I really dig that one. I've tried listening to some older dubstep groups like Brian Eno and Karlheinz Stockhausen, but really I don't think any of them did dubstep as well as Kraftwerk.

  • @PrivateBuckwheat you're going to have to explain to me how Avril 14th is dubstep.

  • @danielinsporto Go listen to it and just wait for the drop at around 1:26. That's bound to get the dance floor groovin.

  • @PrivateBuckwheat You made me laugh for a good four minutes straight. Thank you

  • @PrivateBuckwheat Royksopp arent a new group or a dubstep group, theyve been around for years and just play more chilled breaks. Kraftwerk are also not at all dubstep. and i dont know how eno and stockhausen are dubstep either, or that AT track :S ...

  • @zuziatree Psssshhh I bet you only listen to mainstream dubstep like Blink 182... I wouldn't expect you to understand (it's okay, though).

  • @PrivateBuckwheat ok? was just pointing out that all the groups you mentioned to be 'dubstep' arent actually dubstep, so im not really sure you know what characterises the genre? and actually i freakin hate brostep (nero, skrillex). listen to some datsik, digital mystikz, Benny ill, hindzy d, caspa, benga, downlink, some of africa hitech, james blake, emalkay, scorn, 2562 =pretty good range of *good* dubstep :]

  • @zuziatree ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha dudes OBVIOUS joke flew straight over your head and on top of that you classified datsik and emalkay in the "*good* dubstep" camp vs brostep. LOL

  • @schizoidchimp ..never mind the list was a *range* of different styled 'dubstep' or dubstep-influenced artists?? have you ever seen either live? emalkay 3yrs ago for me, good producer too (tho yeah his newest stuff steps into brostep but his older stuff is pure bliss). & saw datsik earlier this year, amazing dj- not brostep tho, dubstep is still allowed to be hard and angry without being brostep. but yeah alright rereading buckwheats comment i feel a lil silly for my first comments haha

  • @zuziatree to each his own of course but those two are definitely "bro".

  • @PrivateBuckwheat my fav dubstep must be SunnO. i love it how they drop the beat in most of their songs

  • @PrivateBuckwheat I'm pretty sure those tracks aren't dubstep....

  • @JimvsBob Ah, just saw the previous posts... thanks god for that..

  • @PrivateBuckwheat i love you.

  • @foofermoe Thanks, I love you as well!

  • @PrivateBuckwheat I never knew Kraftwork ever made any dubstep songs, can you tell me one of the dubstep tracks they made so I can check it out, thanks

  • thats right 0 dislikes, no haters music, just peace, love, chill.

  • @CapaQdoe 3 people don't smoke weed

  • Does the start of this song remind anyone else of Boards of Canada a bit?

  • Arguing over the categorisation of music is increasingly stupid. So much music coming out these days are a blur of genres, especially in the electronic field. It's just not worth it, feel free to identify particular songs as belonging to particular genres for sorting in your own head, but arguing is pointless. Relating genres to songs etc. is now more based on opinion than easily identifiable fact

  • I saw them live, last Friday, in Amsterdam.

    They were amazing.

And I can't describe how their work just flows through me...

Epecially when you're in a room with 100 people and everybody is vibing and is dead silent.

    Just amazing.

  • Sounds like aphex twin. Me rikey.

  • this track definitely goes into my "there is none" genre.

  • Can people stop whining about what is and what isn't dubstep. Just appreciate good music.

It's the same with every 'dubstep' (or debatably 'dubstep') track on YouTube. Please go on litter the comments section of one of the shitter tracks that falls into this ballpark with your garbage remarks.

  • This song reminded me of Paper Mario for Nintendo 64. So I downloaded it, and beat it. Thank you Mount Kimbie, for helping me finally beat that game.

  • this song passes by so fast. in fact, it's already over.

  • where is the dubstep?

  • funny how you guys are calling this dubstep. And some people are saying this bassline makes it dubstep, when its the most simplest bassline ever. This is more tech house than anything. 3/4 of the song has a 4/4 beat. Even Beatport categorizes this as Tech house & Electronica

  • @panictryouts dubstep can by 4/4 listen to antiwar dub by digital mystikz

  • nice song! the vocals do perfectly fit in... does anybody know where they are from?

  • @tazzmanNBG london

  • 54 likes - 0 dislikes... thats what i like to see!

  • that stuttered beat @ 2:55 is just phenomenal...

  • i wouldnt call this dubstep. for me dubstep is a half time beat with a much stronger pulse and bassline. this, being derived from burial, is what i would call 2-step garage or simply ambient. not that it really needs to be categorised.

  • @TyroneeT I think a lot of new listeners to Dubstep don't know the difference between 2-Step and Dubstep, they just associate that 2-Step rhythm with Dubstep. It's a fair mistake to make, and doesn't make a great deal of difference to anything, it's just strange when some old 2-step tracks are uploaded and labeled as Dubstep suddenly :)

  • @TwoTube2 i thought dubstgep was just 2-step stripped of midrange leaving just bass and drum but i guess thats too literal. really its just the sound that evolved out of dark garage so any 2-step produced past 2003 will be called dubastep ior future garage

  • This is why I got into dubstep back in the day. Rawness.

  • @SectionF4 back in the day? as in '09?

  • yeh in fairness to the angry guy this isnt dubstep really. I dont think you can really define this as anything other than ambient music.

    Truly beautiful

  • its the interval between the beat that makes its dubstep ;)

  • Even if I would use genres... this would never ever be dubstep. The bass is what makes dubstep... and bass is a bit rare in this one

  • You don't understand dubstep no offense

  • Holy shit, you UNDERSTAND dubstep? Could you explain please, I really want to know.

  • Can we kiss first

  • @PinkSupervisor Did you actually listen to the whole track?

  • @untactful Are you fucking with me?

Why would I call a track NOT dubstep if I didn't actually listen to it?

And still: This is not dubstep PERIOD!

  • @PinkSupervisor it's just there own unique style of music influenced by 2 - step, dubstep and ambience i'd say. has no genre

  • @PinkSupervisor the bass is not what makes dubstep thats a ridiculous statement

  • @Hartle1707 Then what is it that makes dubstep?

  • Comment removed

  • @PinkSupervisor 70/140 bpm + the bassline makes dupstep in theory. but seriously, who cares?

  • @fenikt I don't but it looks like we are the minority here oO

  • compare this too early kode 9 and mala tunes which most site as the origin of dubstep i think this is far closer too that than wot you might perceive as dubstep

  • I love this, but it's too short, and the vocals aren't long enough either.

  • @sussex113, stop being ruled by genres, it's all music. Diversity for the win.

  • @kingldub- i'm not. i was pointing something out. anyway, as you say, who cares. music is king!

  • @sussex113 It's stripped down leaving just bass and drum hence DUB and its got shuffling 2-step percussion hence STEP.... DUBSTEP

  • i actually think mount kimbie is a dubstep trendsetter in their own right, just as burial is in his own right. this is way more ambient and patternless than burial. it's like nothing i've heard before. can't wait to see where they go after their sketch on glass ep!

  • well said

  • Who is this mickla guy......bet hes from bray and has a beard

  • Bignest? arent you that guy who killed that hooker when u found out it was a dude?man ur like famous!see i got u on the Mount Kimbie vibe anyway, good man

  • fukin chooon

  • boys and girls - i am a quim

  • yea this track is fire.

  • aurait

  • This is so good, never expected dubstep to go in this direction, but this is lush, i love that vocal sample, anyone know where it is from?

  • I agree. What a beautiful turn!

  • Tho, actually, we're being quite silly. Dubstep's had this in it since the beginning, way before I ever discovered it. But this sound is very much descended from burial, don't you think?

  • if its decended from anything its Boards of Canada..?

  • @didyoujustouchmyass art of noise

  • @didyoujustouchmyass or something of druqks

  • I think it's just one of the guys in the "band" which is singing. And yes, this is well lush!

  • plaisante douceur.

    on aurai aimé en 7"
