i love this song, and i would love to see them in concert. last few years ive been plagued by being in the right place at the wrong time. hope next year works out better.
think about it, Alex creates a slightly different solo for this song every night they play it live, and some are quite creative. I love this song, love these guys, how can you not like em?. Can't wait to see them once again INSIDE THE BALTIMORE ARENA (the now first mariner arena) coming up in April!!
my Packer fan came up from lake kookoomongo with a sword to the steelers... like carrie bradshaw's biloxi wing an wand, dreams aint worth shit. time machines art
@chitoryu12 well deep duh kemosabi we art jung. crack the sky oh mighty trimveritas cymbalic epic crack the skyy it sea, it urged, hell upon the curb, keel upon the heel... my gawd what a restless d minor
@Umagula You might try looking up geddy on wikipedia. was reading there the other day and it listed a lot of the stuff he has used over the years. you might find what you are looking for there. Hope that helps
You got that right, although I will say I like 1 song from that era you refer to as "not great" But still, it's only one song.
Some of their synth based songs are really good (Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, ones from the early 90's), but they abused the synthesizer (like most bands in the 80's so don't blame them) and the synth in not a good substitute for guitars (except in rare cases)
Amazing performance as usual! I can't think of any other music I'd rather listen to!! They are THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!! Alex's guitar playing is phenomenal!!! Long live Rush!
Amazing performance as usual! I can't think of any other music I'd rather listen to!! They are THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!! Alex's guitar playing is phenomenal!!! Long live Rush!
@Inthescissor The best time was putting Hemispheres, Fairwell to Kings, 2112, Caress of Steel on the turntable putting on the headphones laying on the bed with the eyes closed and picturing everything Neil was writing about in that AWESOME music!! He paints such a great picture in Cygnus X-1,it just feels like you are along on the journey!
@mushanekoproductions Agreed. I was lucky enough to watch it live in person twice, thus far. If only there was a way to bottle up the experience and power of the performance for future use.
Yes, it's from the same show at Auburn Hills. It was filmed by the venue, not Rush. They also filmed the Presto and Roll the Bones tours there but the RTB show has never leaked. You can see several clips from it though on various documentaries. There is also a proshot full concert from the Presto tour shot at Mountain View, California. Clips from all of these are on youtube.
I'm guessing this is from the same concert in Michigan during the Counterparts tour where Neil's drum solo was recorded and released on his "Anatomy" DVD?
@Snowdogkh - The Palace Vision people are the ones who "record" these. They have about 6 cameras in the place at various locales. ( We were at this show. 5 rows up on the side, right in front of Geddy) - They broadcast the entire show live (obviously) on the video monitors throughout the arena. (Bars/Eateries and on the jumbotron above the floor.) So Rush must have let them "publish" this one. ;-)
What a great great SONG!!!!! There is no one better than RUSH IN MY OPINION. Alex is so creative and emotional in his guitar playing. I just Love the way he plays!!!! Geddy is a SMOOTH Master at Bass and i dont even need to tell you how incredible Neil is.......I get goosebumps hearing this...
This is better than the version on "different stages" - superb. Rush aren't as good as this anymore (but then who the hell is??) - the five-year layoff didn't help and Geddy's high register is fucked these days.
WTF are you smoking? Did you even catch the R30 or Snakes & Arrows tour? How about either DVD? There STILL fucking fantastic...and IMO even better that they have been in A LONG tme. There like a fine wine...
I got the Rush DVD "Working Men" for Christmas, and it was the first time I was introduced to this song. The version on that DVD is way better than this, your wine statement is spot on, seeing as how that was about 15 years later.. :)
@stallionplaya52: WTF? Roll the Bones is their 2nd best selling album (Moving Pictures being 1st), Double Platinum, and also the biggest audiences, even more than 80s. People don't know sh!t about the bands they like... god.
Their '90s material (including Presto as well) is mainly disdained because of the lyrical change and the genre shift. Many fans of Rush during the '70s and '80s stopped listening at this point.
You don't seem to know much about Rush as well, I know probably 10x more than you do. And that comment was from over a year ago, I'm more educated now, I guess.
@stallionplaya52: there were more people coming to their fanbase than leaving... the bigger audiences and record selling just prove that. People love to call everything underrated because they think they are the only ones wise enough to enjoy some stuff. Yeah, you know a lot more, sure...
@stallionplaya52 That's incorrect. Fans of 70s Rush stopped listening around Signals. The direction the band was taking was drastically different than that of their prog rock style, so the fans jumped off the bandwagon. It wasn't until the 90s (Counterparts to now) that the fans have rejoined. The electronic style of the 80s has now been abandoned, and Rush has returned to their original rock element.
@stallionplaya52 Right, but a lot of their original fans returned due to the rock element and guitar coming back into main focus. What they didn't like was the synthesizer-based pop rock they were making in the 80s, so when they realized they have returned to guitar-based rock music, they jumped back on the bandwagon.
@stallionplaya52 Well, I have to throw Hold Your Fire in there for synth overload. I like some of the songs from that album, but the "much too prevelant" electronic sounds drive me nuts. Turn up the good, turn down the suck!
@stallionplaya52 My favorite is Lock and Key. Writing, vocals, and music excellent, just wish Alex was turned up and the keyboards turned down, if that makes any sense. Great solo..very under-appreciated guitar player.
