@28rampage - Well, I believe if its a 15 round fight, Hagler will probably win by round 13 or 14. But Hearns might not be able to keep him off for too long. Hagler is really dangerous though, Hearns would be in trouble if he make only one mistake because Hagler would jump in for a quick kill! I doubt it would be as much a classic as the 1st, but it still would be a great fight!

Many "Moons" ago.......when my relatives of Detroit, Michigan introduced me to the world of Thomas "Hitman" Hearns........I had no idea at the time what a FAVOR they were doing me! Next to Muhammad Ali, Tommy became a personal "Superhero" of mine in the sport of Boxing. Although this fight was a prime example of Tommie's talent & courage......It also represented one of my more depressing moments as a sports fan. No one likes to see their "Superhero" humanized.
Great fight involving the two best fighters of the day. I loved both these fighters. In my opinion, Hagler was the greatest middleweight of all time. He was never Ko'd, and only lost 3 times in 67 fights and avenged 2 of those.
Hearns was a great fighter too and showed real heart in this fight. If he has managed to keep his legs who knows what might have happened? Hearns is also an all time great and should have beaten Ray Leonard both times they fought.
Hey, from what I hear, before Hearns got into the fight he received a rather distraught message than worries Emmanuel Steward. Does anyone know what was that massage?

But it's noticeable that he didn't use his right much in the next two rounds. He probably hurt his hand delivering his flurry of punches to Hagler and busted him open. Man... @expressivechild about why his legs always turned to jelly and they said his leg muscles which are used most in boxing were weak so (i think this was after the 1st barkley fight) he used a bike to build & strengthen them and it helped quite a bit considering he moved all the way to cruiser without being ko'd again..
@28rampage - I think a fighter like Tommy brings out the best in his opponents, because Tommy would fight so aggressively that you just got to be in motion all the time. I think you were right, Tommy's legs went rubbery when he got knocked off balance by Hagler. That one mistake actually cause Hearns the fight. Hearns is a warrior in the ring!

Marvin Hagler was my all time boxing hero. A fantastic fighter, and in my opinion the greatest middleweight of all time. Thomas Hearns was also an all time great, and this fight was just awesome. Two great champions giving it their all.
Two things played a prominent role here too: one, Hearns had bad legs going in cause of a back massage given to him just befoe the fight. Steward swore he would NEVER have a masseuse touch another fighter of his so close to fight time again; 2nd, Hearns broke his right hand right away after that monster uppercut in the first. It still would have ended by KO though cause Hagler was not gong to be denied. He looed like he was gong to die before he would lose. Wow these men are such lions.
Still one of the most exciting fights of all time and probably the most exciting first round in boxing history..honorable mention Foreman Frazier 1 just for the the drama of watching the heavyweight championship of the world change hands.

@28rampage - Hmmmm... Tommy has always been humble and a class act in spite of his ferocity in the ring. For him, if he lost, he lost, no questions asked. But it's noticeable that he didn't use his right much in the next two rounds. He probably hurt his hand delivering his flurry of punches to Hagler and busted him open. Man... If Tommy did not break his hand, there is possibility Hagler will have to be stopped as he was already bleeding badly in the 3rd round before Hearns got KOed. (continue)

@expressivechild about why his legs always turned to jelly and they said his leg muscles which are used most in boxing were weak so (i think this was after the 1st barkley fight) he used a bike to build & strengthen them and it helped quite a bit considering he moved all the way to cruiser without being ko'd again..

@28rampage - I think a fighter like Tommy brings out the best in his opponents, because Tommy would fight so aggressively that you just got to be in motion all the time. I think you were right, Tommy's legs went rubbery when he got knocked off balance by Hagler. That one mistake actually cause Hearns the fight. Hearns is a warrior in the ring!

@expressivechild yeah he sure was, he was desperate for a rematch but arum said he had to earn it so he arranged a fight vs schuler and hagler vs mugabi on the same card & if both won then the rematch was on, many thought hearns was done & thought the undefeated schuler would use hearns as a stepping stone, oh how wrong were they tommy blasted him out cold in the 1st rd and hagler struggled with mugabi so the rematch was on, until leonard came back & stole the fight bcos he brought more $

@28rampage - Looks like Hearns got distracted more than once in a fight before, probably before a major fight too. I wouldn't take anything away from Hagler after all, both men fought with their heart and soul that night! Chin is what makes the difference...

People say Floyd Mayweather has not fought anybody the man dethrowned Gatti he beat Mosley then he came back and beat castilio twice then beat De La Hoya at his walk around weight which at fight De La Hoya was 160 pounds that a fucking middleweight! Then he beat Marquez the same guy that beat pacquiao twice but got screwed by the judges! Marvin Hagler was my all time boxing hero. A fantastic fighter, and in my opinion the greatest middleweight of all time. Thomas Hearns was also an all time great, and this fight was just awesome. Two great champions giving it their all.

Two things played a prominent role here too: one, Hearns had bad legs going in cause of a back massage given to him just befoe the fight. Steward swore he would NEVER have a masseuse touch another fighter of his so close to fight time again; 2nd, Hearns broke his right hand right away after that monster uppercut in the first. It still would have ended by KO though cause Hagler was not gong to be denied. He looed like he was gong to die before he would lose. Wow these men are such lions.
