The only problem I really have with it is the fact that Imperium pretty much enforces a planetary draft, i.e, on a planet, you are given a draft card. When called, you join the PDF (national guard, but way less professional) When Imperium needs more solders, they take PDF forces and turn them into Guardsmen. Good video though, it has that Imperium feel to it.

@Tjongibuljongen Commissars are taken from different worlds than the regiments they serve with, they are often orphan children from fallen Imperial Officials, these Orphan's are then taken to a facility and trained to love the Emperor, once they reach a certain age they will be put into Cadet Commissar training area's then when they graduate they join regiments and are usually stupid enough to go trigger happy, Inquisitors are also trained in the same way, but Inquisitors are usually Psyker's.
@Tjongibuljongen Some Commissars(like Cain/Yarrick/Gaunt) know it hurts the morale worse if you go shooting everyone you see, Cain not so much that, but he'd prefer to have another body infront of him preferably a live one, Yarrick, well, let's just say Men have many Ork qualities, the more men we have fighting alongside us, the more fearless we become, the more successful a leader becomes the more of us flock to him, Yarrick was very successful in fighting Orks, so naturally men would go to him
the only problem with this video is that its not just anyone who can join the guard... there are military specific worlds who pick their own (vostroya) or even a whole world dedicated to producing fresh guardsmen trained from birth for that purpose (catachan and cadia) so the point is its not quite as easy as this to join the guard....

@padaanza Well the thing is each planet is like a mini nation unto itself for all it's blustering and harsh speak the Imperium of Man is nothing more then a ragged, torn up Imperial Confederation. So each world has a certain amount of autonomy and in actual reality in the case of the outer most planets, complete autonomy. Unless a Inquisitor just happens to be roaming around chances are you could do whatever you want on the Imperium's fringe.

You just have to read some of the fluff in the Guardsmen codex to know some Guard regiments are more like mobs in riots.

And they do have a concept of the afterlife, well atleast the Imperial Cult, they think that you spend it by the Emperor's side. And dying is just one of the many concerns of your average Imperial citizen but it certainly isnt the worst. And the reason its harsh in the first place is because it doesnt want to repeat the Horus Heresy and will go to any lengths to do so.

it depends on the planet and whereabouts the planet is located. cadia for example forcibly conscripts troops from when they are youngsters, for the simple reason that they are extremely close to the eye of terror and come under frequent attacks by chaos. planets which are extremely far away from any known combat zone will have their own planet army but will not forcibly conscript unless in extreme circumstances

@padaanza There IS one SLIGHT flaw with this though. The Imperial Guard doesn't recruit directly last I checked, They tithe local Planetary Defense Forces (PDFs) for needed men, since those guys already have gone though basic and are marginally more combat ready and capable than "civvies".
Do you think they'll ever do that? Restore the czar, that is? They do have some candidates, although it would be a ceremonial position probably just intended to further legitimize Putin, former KGB man though he is.

It would be more a "respect" issue regarding the Romanovs and the former Russian Imperial House. I´m not sure joining the Space Marines is that much better actually considering the low probability of surviving all the implants, chemical & psychological 'engineering' just to become eligable to join. Ofcourse the survival chance if you survive that process is about a billion times safer then to be a Imperial Guardsman so it might just be worth it if survival is more important then retaining your humanity.

@padaanza There IS one SLIGHT flaw with this though. The Imperial Guard doesn't recruit directly last I checked, They tithe local Planetary Defense Forces (PDFs) for needed men, since those guys already have gone though basic and are marginally more combat ready and capable than "civvies".

Do you think they'll ever do that? Restore the czar, that is? They do have some candidates, although it would be a ceremonial position probably just intended to further legitimize Putin, former KGB man though he is.

@themysteriouscrumpet I think the romanovs are all dead. It'd be pointless to make someone czar... that'd be like making a random n00b king of england or emperor of japan. It's not really symbolic unless the rulership has continued uninterrupted.

@themysteriouscrumpet I guess you'll have to go after those who used the tune for several Church hymns then.....It was published in 1833, and as such had it been "copyrighted" , the copyrights would have long since expired and the tune would be Public Domain . It would be more a "respect" issue regarding the Romanovs and the former Russian Imperial House. The Russians very nearly adopted the tune of "God Save the Tsar" for their new anthem following the fall of the Soviet Union.

I´m not sure joining the Space Marines is that much better actually considering the low probability of surviving all the implants, chemical & psychological 'engineering' just to become eligable to join. Ofcourse the survival chance if you survive that process is about a billion times safer then to be a Imperial Guardsman so it might just be worth it if survival is more important then retaining your humanity.
