I talked about this issue with AT&T according to one person this is still being talked about. According to another it has been in effect since April 20,2011. A tech person e-mailed me a link about the proposed caps. If you watch at least 20-50 movies per month you could easily use 100gb if you watch 100 that would be 200gb. This is AT&T really trying to bury their competition;Netflix. All the companies who are proposing this offer some type of cable of expensive internet!

There is a petition on change.org regarding this issue. Anyone who wants to do at least something about it can voice their dismay in the petition. Just search "AT&T cap petition" in Google and you'll find it. Dunno when it was started, probably yesterday, but it already has over 500 signatures.

i cant believe that you Americans are complaining! you have one of the best internet networks in the world! Here in Australia, most, if not all internet is capped. For 50gb/month you are paying about $60//month, and the max speed you will be getting is only about 6 or 7mb/s at best.

In Australia we have cap plans since internet started haha 50gb a month now 1tb! :D but if you go over its 512kb/s a sec no extra charge. We are now starting to get unlimited adsl2+ plans now tho pretty slow tho only 20mb down and a couple up :(

If most companies have a bandwidth cap then there will be an opportunity for some other isp that HAS NO cap. Trust me. The greatest danger is if GOVERNMENT gets involved. Then it would be possible to impose a universal price structure on bandwidth usage.

@jellokim downloads are typically rated in bytes, and internet speed is advertised in bits 8 byte = 1 bit

so your getting 2.4mbps which is normal if you have 3mbps dsl.

I began to get capped a year ago, without any notification, the first month I went over my limit "60GB" by 70GBs.

I use internet for everything, uTorrent plays a big part in it.

its $2.50 a gig when you go over. So 70 x 2.50 you do the math.

I still go over 20-30 gbs a month but I cant change internet because where I live there is only one high speed ISP

How do u plan on doing that while keeping the service stable. But that is a good deal but its not gonna happen because U would need to setup boxes for the poeple to receive their internet. At the same time you would need like 1terabyte or alot more to send the interntet out to the customers so its not so easy. For me I have att 1.5mbps down/384kbps up and it was capped at 384kbps/384kbps but fixed it and its now at 1.5mbps so no problems and ive never had any with att so yea.

If you watch "V for Vendetta", you'll know that if you give the people the power, changes can be done. I know it's a big task, but it can be done if we all put our heads together. At one point, companies like at&t, verizon, comcast were just ideas until somebody decided to make it a reality. So by capping the internet, the ISP is making us look like a socialist nation when we are a Capitalist nation where ideas & progress should be cherished. I know it's not easy but it can be done. I see your concern. An idea could be to have everyone donate $5 (~$1.5B) to buy out a lot of small ISPs to gain access to a bunch of small networks. Look at Japan, u don't hear anything about caps. My fear is that with the Internet being capped, America may become a third world country in technology in 20 years or less if we are not careful. Think about companies like YouTube, Netflix, IPTV companies like Revision3, Hulu are going to get hurt. This is why I don't support caps. Thank you!

Uverse is IPTV "internet" TV - its even in the name, their is no getting around this. Uverse tv puts traffic on the same network that the internet is on, yet they cry uncle with internet usage which is way lower than the data uverse tv uses.

the 25/2 profile is the highest you can get, my RG can sync higher, but att does not allow this....

2 hd streams on my internet uses about 13mbps, eating into the total of 25, leaving ~12 left over.

Or if that's the fastest service they will sell to you that is because of the physical limitations of your phone line, me using my internet cant effect yours, even more so I am on UVERSE, a fiber biased network, your provably on their older DSL service. I see now ah uverse eh and 65 dollars a month damn, Now I see u get what u pay for. yup they say that its my limit at 1.5 but before 1.5 it was only 384kpbs and they said that it was my limit i did not beileve becuase Ive gotten higher download rates and look its now at 1.5 becuase i got help from an online site. I even called the company to tell them to force it to 1.5mbps and that I was paying for it. They said it would disconnect here and there cause of the distance limitations. They lied.

eh most internet companies suck if you are like me and download alot... such as torrents music.. movies etc... then i would look into the ISP you mentioned lol... most internet companies like comcast or w.e. else.. with the really high speeds.. limit your downloads... i've heard many rumors bout comcast like they slow your connection alot after you hit the download limit... didn't believe em till i got on my friends PC and started downloading... so ask your ISP if they limit it before you get it

Uverse FTTN is an inherently bad middle step from copper and fiber, but its a cheaper hybrid network. Although it allows ATT to be competitive no where DOCSIS 3 (fancy word for cables new internet.) But att only chooses to be competitive where they need to be, cheaper for them. This is where our government is trying to step in. Our government right now is trying to figure out how to encourage ISP's to deliver faster internet to undeserved markets. @$65 I get less than @$55 from comcast docsis3

hulu uses hardly any data compared to uverse tv. uverse tv does not come from a remote server over ther internet. it comes from AT&T.

My RG uses VDSL ITU G.993.1, ALL phone, tv and internet data travels along this one 25/2 mbps connection, if tv was on a separate connection how come your internet slows down when your watching tv? Its sharing the same connection. Its an all in one connection. Maybe things get split up at the VRAD.

the 25/2 is the connection between you and the VRAD. the RG knows what traffic is tv, phone, and internet. your internet slows down probably because your line isn't good enough for the plan that you are signed up for. try watching tv on a slower rate plan. you will see that it does not slow down.

the RG uses QoS to make sure that the TV stream gets the bandwidth that it needs. I only watch HD OTA as it is anyways so I never really had this problem. TV is too expensive to pay to watch anyways.

It doesn't cost att any more to send a few electrons thought a different router.

ATT uverse tv and internet goes on my line to the VRAD, at which point its in the fiber network, That fiber network carries the burden of U-Verse tv, the same way it does the my internet.

18Mbps = 2.25MBps = 135MB per min = 8.1GB per hour = 194.4 GB per day

Watch 2.5HR of live HD video, and record 2.5 hr of HD video to your dvr over the course of the month would = 12mbps (two 6.5mbps video streams) would use 3.8 TB a month!
