  • wow 380 bpm

  • Who was the drummer here?

  • @MrExtraToastable young chuck norris

  • @MrExtraToastable young chuck norris

  • @MrExtraToastable - I believe the gentleman's name is Maurice "Moe" Purtill

  • What movie is this? That version of the song was on FIRE! I can't believe jazz snobs don't like swing!

  • what a drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hihats didnt exist back then! they where invented later

  • aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeesoooooooooome

    mega cool

  • Mo Purtill is a very underrated drummer and deserves a lot more recognition. Maybe Youtube can help....

  • @GingerRum This is certainly one of Mo's signature pieces. I'm a huge Gene Krupa fan, too, but I like Mo Pirtil just fine.(And who can dislike Buddy Rich?) You and I may be the only Mo Pirtle fans left alive.

  • The drum solo is really nice. He must've been going at least 280 bpm.

  • That was a nice solo by Tex Beneke at 1:09. Man, this song has alot of trilling done by the saxes.

  • i love glenn miller, but personally, i like benny goodmans bugle call rag better.

but both still have a place on my ipod :D

  • The first Wipeout by a drummer. Fantastic!

  • my god! wish we orchestras like this....

  • Look how fast that left hand is. Drummers like this are showmen AND musicians. Real classly and awesome chops.

  • Jackie Gleason was supposed to be "comedy relief" in "Orchestra Wives", so he filled the chair where Doc Goldberg was actually playing bass on the soundtrack (ditto Cesar Romero sitting in for pianist Chummy MacGregor).

  • Ki lehetett az az egy hülye, akinek ez nem tetszett?

  • How the hell can the audience stand so still at 2:34?! I'd be jumping all over the place man

  • I have a remastered version of this song... but it's not as explosively good as this version!! I WANT THIS VERSION!!!!

  • lol, in jazz, you can't play the clarinet facing down; you HAVE to play it @ a 35-40 degree angle.

  • Haha. 1:05

  • I heard they were the first big band that people came to see perform than to just dance to.

  • Outstanding pure swing! Those hep cats could really jam. Hot sax solo, wailing clarinet, smooth trombones, exploding percussion...now that's what I call jazz!!

  • MY DAD, GO MOE!!!!

  • @Pats12 is that really ur dad? boy does he shred hes amazing.

  • Mo Purtill on the drums, dynamite!

  • Tex rocked :)

  • best sax solo forever

    TEX BENEKE was the best!!!

  • I agree tex's sax break is the best i ever heard.

  • I don't think you'll ever hear a better sax 'break' thank Tex Beneke's in this song - RIP sir - you were the best!

  • I beg to differ, it's actually Wilbur Schwartz, who played the clarinet lead in the famous Miller "Sound" and also alto sax. McIntyre had left between the time Sun Valley Serenade was made by Fox where he can be seen in the sax section, and the time Orchestra Wives was made. Hal was leading his own band by the time this movie was filmed and released.

  • Sure he's Schwartz! Lead altoist is Skippy Martin, which replaced McIntyre ang gave the reed section a new impulse!

  • like Barqs root beer, its GOOD!

  • i think i've jizzed in my pants for the frist time EVER listening to this

  • @protestxday do you mean jazzed? :D

  • What an incredible song! I've got this on my worn-out "Remember Glenn" double LP from the '70s, love it! A treat to see the showmanship that went along with the music; Glenn on the slip-horn and Tex Beneke on sax. In the '80s I had the pleasure of seeing several big band greats in concert; Tex Beneke, Harry James, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw (he hadn't played his clarinet since he'd filled it with concrete and made a lamp out of it in the '50s, but was fronting a new band). Such classiness!!

  • I adore this one! When the guy yells at the drummer during his solo!!! I do that to my drummer Hubby sometimes and we laugh cuz he knows just where it comes from. :)

  • The drummer here is Maurice Mo Pirtle.

  • Ah! Thank you for the info!

  • The guy yelling is Hal McIntyre, who was one of Glenn's best friends.
