  • I love this type of musicc.. can anyone please tell me what type of jazz this exactly is?? Some jazz are just too slow tempo and moody and others are just to bright for me.. but this.. this is perfection..

  • damn, theys creepin

  • Benny Green knows how to hold back, a skill which takes quite a bit of discipline to master.

  • this feels too good

  • yeeaaaa.. green monk :p

  • Nice. But during Ray's solo I would rather not listen to any left hand piano

  • UMMMM, That's not Benny Green!

  • @bmdrum2 . UMMMMM your wrong. That is definitely Benny Green.

  • great Ray Brown, scholastic benny Green, impalpable Greg Hutchinson. This is a session with DeeDee Bridgewater orchestra.

  • monge azul!

    linda canção

  • benny green timing... holy cow

  • Fantastic! My favourite music is reggae, but jazz gives me another kind of chillout... Peace!

  • cilcsster, maybe it was all those years with oscar. anyway, gorgeous is gorgeous and ray was.

benny green is also truly wonderful not trying to be monk.

  • To be honest I dont believe that any piano player (ever) could swing harder and phrase better at a medium-slow than Benny. Oscar Peterson would tear it up but probably with a whole lot of notes and runs. I m not saying he is better than Oscar, it's just that Benny Green is at his best with this particular tempo.

  • This sounds a lot like Cruella Deville.

  • @EZ2anger

ha ha, yeah i always thought that too. and on green dolphin street sounds like 'food glorious food' from oliver.

  • Very very nice.

    Thanks for the post

  • yes

  • why the bou play bass vhen Ray Plays, accords would be enough.

  • The Best of The Best.

  • Can Greg Hutchinson even TRY to be more in the pocket than he is? Not possible!

  • benny green is insane!! I saw some of his other videos and HOLY MOLY!!!!!!!

  • This aired on TVP Kultura last night :]

  • These guys pretty much embody swing and all that it implies.

  • OOOOOOOOO Yeahhhhh.

  • benny green! berkeley high alum, what a beast

  • the best!!!!!

  • Ray Brown IS the BASS

  • @Surmusicp Why's he reading his part from the score, if he IS the BASS, that's just not clever

  • I wish Ray was still alive.

  • Yes, Ray was wonderful, why is it that so many of the greats become obese?

  • @cilcsster bcs they spend 6-10 hours a day in one position practicing - which makes them hungry, so they eat, and because they're practicing all day (which makes them great) they don't really have much time to burn off all those calories... Some artists' metabolisms are better predisposed to that type of regiment.

  • @whennen I thought that he was sadly deceased, but maybe not? where is this dude, I want to meet the guy, and yeh, does he give lessons, as I want to take up the double bass, but classical though

  • amazing..

  • what a nice fresh sound

  • i love jazz because most of the best song are a blues like blue monk mr pc bye bye blackbird and others

  • bye bye blackbird?

  • Yes, the pianist certainly does "care", but is graciously taking a backseat to a master in the foreground.

  • Does any of this incredible jazz officially exist on DVD? If not why not?

  • i kinda get the feeling that the pianist doesnt care but his playing is great ......

  • God I miss Ray. It was good to see Benny at Jazz Alley last week and Christian McBride last night. I wish they would bring the Ray Brown tribute to Seattle. Call John at Jazz Alley and get him on the ball!

  • i was at that show too! soooo good!

  • ray brown walking a blues..just great!

  • Gotta love the fact that Benny throws in a walking bass line during Ray's solo! Damn these guys can just flat out swing.

  • The swing feels oh so good!!!!

  • What a fantastic tune!

    this bassist is great!

  • haha one of the oldest and greatest, I hope you knew of him before this

  • wow very nice :-) makes my day

  • Oh Man, this is absolutely fantastic. What feel and groove. Anybody fancy a jazz session at my house?

  • Gotta love Ray Brown...it's amazing how he plays with so much feel

  • Nice...

Thanks for that - and Face202 thanks very much for your helpful and mature comment.

  • strepitoso senza parole

  • Great performance! If you like it I'm sure you would also like Gustav Csik -> My point of view -> Billie's Bounce. (Just mentioning because it is not easy to find that kind of stuff.)

  • he knows so many songs its easy to forget how some go...and its always safe to have the sheet infront of you just in case.

  • Asolutel fantastic - great pace, great swing; perfect.

What's confusing me a little is that it appears Benny Green is reading the music - surely Blue Monk isn't the most challenging of pieces? Am I wrong in this assumption?

  • He's not reading while he's playing the blues, at that concert the Ray's trio was a rhythm section for the big band so those charts were for for the big band music

  • @BlueinGreen2

Dex : ``How can you play jazz if you don't know blues?``

Form simple, but play it 100 times and ask yourself how to keep it interesting after the melody :)

  • @BlueinGreen2 hes looking at the rest of the band

  • @BlueinGreen2

He's watching Ray for cues. The sheet music is there for anotherr tune.

  • @BlueinGreen2 he´s reading a magazine don´t get confused

  • Ray brown was the man.

  • this is so amazing.

  • so soothing, so artistic, its wonderful. this is jazz

  • For me, Benny swings better than any piano player in the business. Hail Benny Green! Keep it up Boy.

  • I had high expectations for Benny. Yet, No one could anticipate this excellence. RB liked it, too.

  • He was the greatest of them all thru all Jazz history

  • nice, benny!!! nice!

  • this was at least 10 years ago

  • @Face202 this was in berlin 1997 .. i was a member of the bigband

  • We can always count on Benny Green to deliver a very unconventional but delicious interpretation.

    Another demonstration of genius.

    R.I.P. Ray. We love ya.

  • I have had the great fortune to see this group play here in San Diego. A few years ago.

I loved it to the max.

  • ray died in 2002. think real hard it must have been more than a few years ago. on the other hand I saw Benny Green last night. mad talented and mad humble...

  • fikuss!!
