What made the 70's the 'golden age' is the amount of competition. Its a simple fact that number of boxers has declined. Fighters fought more often and had to win more fights before getting a title shot. So the ones who got through were tougher and more experienced.
As for 'crazy', the majority of knowledgable boxing fans would pick Ali to win that fight, and would call you crazy for suggesting that todays division has better fighters than Holmes or Norton, for example.

i always thought tyson was awesome. i used to get up at 4am to watch him fight live from the other side of the atlantic. I like the way he tries to help botha when he falls back on the ropes. you don't see many boxers who show that kind of courtesy

@aitraining so go over to the Holyfield or Lewis's videos and enjoy his fights. Holyfield plus Lewis's video count combined do not equal one of Tyson's training video. What that means is it is more exciting to see Tyson train, then to sit through and watch a Lewis fight according to video statistics

@sneakerbootshu The announcer was right, though. I actually saw the whole fight back in the day. Botha had won every round up to that point and Tyson was fighting like crap until he finally landed that big shot. Well, that's why it's called a "puncher's chance," right? Guys like Tyson, Foreman, Ernie Shavers, etc. could always end a fight with one big blow even if they had been dominated round after round by the other fighter.

The best example of what your debating on would be bruce the guy trained harfer and more frequently in a time when most fighters training consisted of a light jog and few push ups to warm up then some sparring so he seemed phenomenal but his style of training is commen practise now so it would take a lot more raw talent to shine now and he may not stand out as much now as he did then and it is the same in any sport. What made the 70's the 'golden age' is the amount of competition. Its a simple fact that number of boxers has declined. Fighters fought more often and had to win more fights before getting a title shot. So the ones who got through were tougher and more experienced.
As for 'crazy', the majority of knowledgable boxing fans would pick Ali to win that fight, and would call you crazy for suggesting that todays division has better fighters than Holmes or Norton, for example.

@oOIZodiacIOo Michael Phelps had an unfair advantage towards each and every record he won, he beat everyone fair and sqaure but that suit, which has been banned, was proven to make the swimmers outrageously faster which doesn't make the actual argument sound when the 60's person could wear it, or Phelps doesn't. So yes I bet my favorite swimmer could beat him. Let alone I doubt he'll be unstoppable this time around.

Like I said I'm not gonna deny that nutrition and training techniques dont make a difference, but its not going to outweigh natural abilities in a sport like boxing. Especially since training techniques have hardly changed at all. The only difference between Tyson and Floyd Patterson for example, is that Tyson was NATURALLY tougher and stronger.

I never heard such nonsense. So now Ali is compared to a modern day amateur.... despite the fact that he traded shots with some of the biggest hitters of all time, beat everyone put in front of him, aside from his last 2 fights when he was old, shot and brain damaged.
Ali's speed in the 60s was superior to most modern heavyweights...and the chin is timeless.
