  • Smurfs!

  • Well played, but i feel this piece is too fast for such a haunting and beautiful melody. I still love Toscanini, just not his interpretation of Schubert's masterpiece.

  • Nobody ever repeats expositions anymore...I think they ought to be repeated. Any thoughts?

  • @aubreyprosper1994 They must be, but maybe it's all in the interest of time?

  • @Kuzya3k In my opinion pieces should be played the way they were written to be played. There are reasons that they were written this way - takes away from the entire piece of music as an art when parts are skipped over. :D

  • I realize this may be small-minded of me, but isn't Schubert a real "looker"? haha He's quite a good-looking man. And he writes beautiful music too. I've read that he and his wife had a very devoted relationship. Nice t:)o hear when two compatible people find each other.

  • @MsTruNorth

Sorry, correction: Schubert remained unmarried, tumbling from one relationship to the other, often unrequited love with noble ladies whom he taught the piano. You may be thinking of the composer Schumann, who was married to Clara Schumann who was also a pianist.

Schubert died at the untimely age of 31. He leaves a huge oeuvre.

    Impressive character.

And, I agree, he was damn good looking ;-)

  • @MsTruNorth Actually I believe he wasn't that good looking, I think the pictures on this are of Toscanini, I'd be interested to know if I'm right. Anyways..... the music is one of the greatest of all symphonies

  • @sixteenforty The younger pictures are of Schubert. They then transition to pictures of the interpreter of Schubert, the conductor, Toscanini. I'e seen pictures of Schubert elsewhere. He was a looker. :)

  • @MsTruNorth Thanks, I apologise to you and young Franz

  • There supposed to be four parts (as usual) in this symphony, but there's only two (and no one knows why). That's why it is called 'unfinished'.

  • Can anyone explain why this symphony is called "Unfinished"? It sounds very complete to me. It's beautiful and seems to have all the movements of a symphony.

  • @MsTruNorth Schubert wrote first and second movements completely, but he only wrote about half of the third movement, and only in piano form. There is some speculation that Schubert wrote the fourth movement, but used it as the first movement of the Rosemunde as it was only written less than a year later, it really doesn't fit the Rosamunde and it fits what shouild possibly be the fourth movement of the 8th.

  • Too many people let this piece drag... But not good old Toscanini :D

Bravo the great Maestro, he really makes it gorgeous.

  • I love thsi piece! we played this last year in our orch

  • Thanks for this - Toscanini's Unfinished - what a treat.

Can you please tell us the year and the orchestra?

  • I assume this is the 1950 NBC Symphony recording. The quality is too good for it to have been a less premeditated (or earlier) recording.

  • I love Schubert's Unfinished symphony. When I first heard it I was so impressed, and I want to play this so bad. Thanks so much 4 uploading the video :)

  • Thanks for upload

  • @Nameless2k7 Not at all!

At last someone has 'discovered' also my Schubert!
