In the first Margarito fight, Cintron simply wasn't ready. I'm not going to make any excuses for him...but he just wasn't ready in a number of ways. In this last fight, I agree with you. He fought courageously and got caught with a nasty body punch that literally paralyzed him. It wasn't did he want to fight or not...he literally couldn't. Margarito is a beast and seems to have Kerm's number but he's beat every other professional fighter he's faced.
I completley agree on this. In the first fight Kermits ego also did him in. He wasnt cocky or anything like that but, he was 27-0 with 27 KO's i think. He thought he would go through Marg. like a knife goes through butter. Amazed by how Kerm gets no respect. He's a great kid with an inspiring backstory and fan friendly style who wears his heart on his sleeve. There's no shame in his stepping up/losing to the warrior Margarito twice (he/his team were frankly "not ready for prime time" in fight 1 and you can see here that fight 2 was more a "vision quest" to try to redeem himself). With Manny out, I'd like to see Kerm with a top notch trainer (is Shields?) and keep learning. If he does he'll have a belt back soon.
Just so I don't get slammed-- the "belt" I think Kerm can win near term is Berto's, Clottey's or Williams'. Remember Margarito is a natural welter weight. Manny isn't. Th DLH fight was a big fiasco. Bob Arum would not put Manny against Margarito. Cintron landed some major power shots in this fight. He cut Margarito and had clearly inflicted some damage. I saw Margarito's face in the locker room after the fight. It was cut, swollen, and battered every bit as bad as Cintron's. That said...he is and was the better fighter by far. He is one tough SOB and will be trouble for any fighter in the 147 division. He did want to try to bang with Margarito and as we all know...it was not the smartest of choices. I can't hold that against him!

In the first fight he was an undefeated young aspiring champion coming off a hand injury, a long layoff, and major problems in his team and camp. He fought hard and simply had no answer for Margarito. In the 2nd fight, he won round 1 and then tried to bang instead of box. He's a man who wanted to try to avenge the earlier beating. I'm not sure what part you don't understand. He got beat up and went back to the bully for more. He held his own until the body shot that ended it.

im sure cotto will do alot better then people give him credit for. he has taken great shots from good power punchers (randall bailey, ricardo torres, shane mosley, zab judah) and has a very good defence and alot of heart. antonio has the height, reach, experience and possible power edge, cotto has the skill edge. it will be a good fight and i have my money on cotto :)

We're in agreement in the way Margarito took the shots. He is indeed a beast who barely flinched. I personally saw Margarito later after the fight with his glasses on. His face was as bad or worse then Cintron's. When I say he was hurt, I meant medically. Cintron connected with several shots that left lasting impacts on his face. Did it affect his fight...no. That's why I'm picking Margarito this weekend. I simply can't see Cotto beating him.
ahh, see that changes it. being hurt by a punch and physically being damaged by it are two very different things. although cintron lacks in some areas, hes punching power is definately up there, so its understandable why margarito had facial damage after the fight. as for cotto? he has alot more heart and will power then cintron, also a better defence and better body attack. i know very well about margaritos jaw, but i dont know much about hes body, so ill find that out when the fight comes :)

I was there. You obviously were not. His left eye was cut and swollen. There are number of photographs showing this. He had blood (his own) all over his left upper body. Did you not see his corner trying to stop it between the rounds? I know this because I was there...ringside!

Williams didnt beat Margo decisively one or two points isnt decisively. Santos was lucky that fight was in puerto rico he was fading rapidly and that fight would of cotinued anywhere else. The cut was not that bad. The comment that really makes me laugh everytime I hear it is the one that Clottey would of beaten Margo if not for injuring his hand. That was just an excuse, halfway through the fight he just quit trying to win and went into his shell.

mmolco...Margo is only 2" taller than Shane. Also Shane has a 1" reach advantage on Margo. More importantly Mosely is a far better boxer. Margarito throws alot of looping punches which makes him vulnerable for a stiff jab.

As to Margarito Cotto, first of all, I will not be sure the fight is happening until they show me the signed contract. Arum will NEVER encourage two of his best known champions to eliminate between themselves. IF the fight DOES take place, I would have to go with margarito, who is the stronger, taller, bigger and hardest puncher of the two. Try using your jab vs. Margo.
Cintron's problem is the fact that he knocked out almost everyone he beat. However, he failed to realize that he cannot fight like that against Margarito. Maybe he will learn how to stay on the outside against a tougher fighter. Boxing is all about styles and matching up against them. The great ones can adapt against any style and win.

There are some fighters that cannot make it against a specific fighter. It is just impossible to beat due to the style, strength etc. Cintron is not for margarito.

I like Cintron. And to see a Cintron 3rd fight against Margarito without Margarito's hidden 'bricks' would possibly be like seeing what the old Shane Mosley did when he beat the tar out of Margarito. I believe Cintron and Cotto were both cheated against Margarito while being the better fighters...Just my opinion....

watch his fights vs Santos again, and you will see how controversial they were, and santos, even though bigger, was not the agressor. In his first fights he was not even 17 years old, and were also controversial. Cement?? he used it on his chin too?? Mosley is a cheater, he admitted using steroids, and probably used them vs margo, who knows. And who checked his wrapping? Besides, mosley said he fights like a mexican cause he´s from L.A. but fought like an East coast black man, hugging, pushing.

He took it like a man and went out like a true warrior...Remember, when you get hit in the body, you just cannot move, its impossible. In the first Margarito fight, Cintron simply wasn't ready. I'm not going to make any excuses for him...but he just wasn't ready in a number of ways. In this last fight, I agree with you. He fought courageously and got caught with a nasty body punch that literally paralyzed him. It wasn't did he want to fight or not...he literally couldn't. Margarito is a beast and seems to have Kerm's number but he's beat every other professional fighter he's faced.

I completley agree on this. In the first fight Kermits ego also did him in. He wasnt cocky or anything like that but, he was 27-0 with 27 KO's i think. He thought he would go through Marg. like a knife goes through butter. When he realized he couldnt dent Steel which Marg. calls a chin, he broke down mentally...In other words, he wasnt ready for the fight. Kermit has a bunch of fights out there for him that he could win. Berto, Clotty, Quintana. He has great power and size.

Amazed by how Kerm gets no respect. He's a great kid with an inspiring backstory and fan friendly style who wears his heart on his sleeve. There's no shame in his stepping up/losing to the warrior Margarito twice (he/his team were frankly "not ready for prime time" in fight 1 and you can see here that fight 2 was more a "vision quest" to try to redeem himself). With Manny out, I'd like to see Kerm with a top notch trainer (is Shields?) and keep learning. If he does he'll have a belt back soon.

Just so I don't get slammed-- the "belt" I think Kerm can win near term is Berto's, Clottey's or Williams'. Margarito is out of reach for the time being, and (having just seen the replay of Cotto/Qunitana last weekend) I would also think a fight right now with Cotto would not be wise. However, Cintron/Qunitana or Judah would also be interesting.

Remember Margarito is a natural welter weight. Manny isn't. Th DLH fight was a big fiasco. Bob Arum would not put Manny against Margarito. Manny has power in his punches but as much as DLH wasn't even in the fight he did no knock him down. Manny vs Margarito... No way, think about just the simple weight issue, Tony would eventually finish Manny. One thing is to imagine and another one is reality. Plus Margarito is at his prime. You can dream, but I doubt it's gonna happen.

I love how everyone in the stands is so quick to critcize the guy who has the courage to actually get in the ring and face a champion like Margarito (twice). Cintron lost. Cintron landed some major power shots in this fight. He cut Margarito and had clearly inflicted some damage. I saw Margarito's face in the locker room after the fight. It was cut, swollen, and battered every bit as bad as Cintron's. That said...he is and was the better fighter by far. He is one tough SOB and will be trouble for any fighter in the 147 division. He did want to try to bang with Margarito and as we all know...it was not the smartest of choices. I can't hold that against him!

In the first fight he was an undefeated young aspiring champion coming off a hand injury, a long layoff, and major problems in his team and camp. He fought hard and simply had no answer for Margarito. In the 2nd fight, he won round 1 and then tried to bang instead of box. He's a man who wanted to try to avenge the earlier beating. I'm not sure what part you don't understand. He got beat up and went back to the bully for more. He held his own until the body shot that ended it.

Cotto quit like Cintron did in the first fight. He gave it his all and just couldn't match up. There is no disrespect in that. In Cintron's 2nd fight he didn't quit at all. Margarito ended the fight with a perfectly placed liver shot that paralyzed him. Cintron is a warrior who gave it his all and lost to the guy we now all see is the best in the division. If you can't see that, not sure what will satisfy you? Margarito is a beast and losing to him is not a disgrace at all.

I'm just pushing a little to see what would be said. I KNOW that Margarito hurt Cotto and he couldn't go on. It was smart on his corner's part to throw in the towel. He'll definitely be back. He's a top world class boxer who just happened to face someone a bit tougher, nastier, and better. Margarito is a beast, a champion, and worthy of all he now has. I hope he takes a Williams re-match. Knowing that Williams simply can't hurt him, he'll attack from the start and KO his ass this time!

im sure cotto will do alot better then people give him credit for. he has taken great shots from good power punchers (randall bailey, ricardo torres, shane mosley, zab judah) and has a very good defence and alot of heart. antonio has the height, reach, experience and possible power edge, cotto has the skill edge. it will be a good fight and i have my money on cotto :)

We're in agreement in the way Margarito took the shots. He is indeed a beast who barely flinched. I personally saw Margarito later after the fight with his glasses on. His face was as bad or worse then Cintron's. When I say he was hurt, I meant medically. Cintron connected with several shots that left lasting impacts on his face. Did it affect his fight...no. That's why I'm picking Margarito this weekend. I simply can't see Cotto beating him.

ahh, see that changes it. being hurt by a punch and physically being damaged by it are two very different things. although cintron lacks in some areas, hes punching power is definately up there, so its understandable why margarito had facial damage after the fight. as for cotto? he has alot more heart and will power then cintron, also a better defence and better body attack. i know very well about margaritos jaw, but i dont know much about hes body, so ill find that out when the fight comes :)

I was there. You obviously were not. His left eye was cut and swollen. There are number of photographs showing this. He had blood (his own) all over his left upper body. Did you not see his corner trying to stop it between the rounds? I know this because I was there...ringside!

cotto is a great boxer but so is margarito...there are many intangibles that go into the matchup...like "chin" speed height size leverage...tuffness etc imo i see Margarito getting a KO in another "timeless classic" Mexican vs Puerto Rican matchup...either way its gonna be win win for the true fightfans...reminiscent of Sanchez vs Gomez or Vargas vs Trinidad...we get to add Margarito vs Cotto...i cant wait for this one their will be an truely electric feeling for this one!

Hindsight is 20/20 as they say... he should have learned that the first fight though... but in the first fight he was blaming personal demons. There won't be a third fight with Margarito, after all, Margarito basically threw away Cintron's beloved IBF belt a month after winning it to fight Cotto.

Wow, I'm Mexican and I feel the exact opposite lol. Of course I hope Margarito wins... I think he can take anything from Cotto... but I also think Cotto can probably take anything from Margarito. That being said, it will boil down to who is the better boxer, and at this stage in his career, I think Cotto may be the better boxer. If you can beat Mosley, or Malignaggi... you have some bad ass boxing skills.

Williams didnt beat Margo decisively one or two points isnt decisively. Santos was lucky that fight was in puerto rico he was fading rapidly and that fight would of cotinued anywhere else. The cut was not that bad. The comment that really makes me laugh everytime I hear it is the one that Clottey would of beaten Margo if not for injuring his hand. That was just an excuse, halfway through the fight he just quit trying to win and went into his shell.

mmolco...Margo is only 2" taller than Shane. Also Shane has a 1" reach advantage on Margo. More importantly Mosely is a far better boxer. Margarito throws alot of looping punches which makes him vulnerable for a stiff jab.

Clottey was having his way with him before injuring his hand and Williams beat Margarito decisively. I like Margarito but alot of his fans have selective memory. Somebody stated that Cotto's jab wouldn't be effective against Tony because of TOny's size...I was pointing out that Tony isn't much taller than Mosely and has a shorter reach. I do think Mosely is a far better boxer than Margarito but this is a moot point.

Much respect to my Kermit Cintron. Remember he chose to fight Margarito again, Margarito was in no way his mandatory but Cintron being that warrior that he is chose to try to avenge his only lose. Although most Puerto Ricans have been riding with Cotto all along Im sticking with Cintron, my favorite fighter. It's easy to be a fan when a fighter gets a W but true fans stick with there fighters through the loses as well!

I give credit to Cintron for wanting to bang with Margarito (although he should have boxed). I also would question how many Welterwieghts would have taken those bombs he was landing on Margarito. As to Margarito Cotto, first of all, I will not be sure the fight is happening until they show me the signed contract. Arum will NEVER encourage two of his best known champions to eliminate between themselves. IF the fight DOES take place, I would have to go with margarito, who is the stronger, taller, bigger and hardest puncher of the two. Try using your jab vs. Margo.

Cintron's problem is the fact that he knocked out almost everyone he beat. However, he failed to realize that he cannot fight like that against Margarito. Maybe he will learn how to stay on the outside against a tougher fighter. Boxing is all about styles and matching up against them. The great ones can adapt against any style and win.

Cintron is an honest fighter... he talked to much before the rematch but i thonk that now he knows that he is good but not good enough for the big leagues, on that league are Cotto, Margarito, Floyd, etc... I wish good luck to Cintron, sure he have a chance to be World Champion again if he fights Quintana (the easiest of the champs) or Williams who will win against Quintana in their next match on June... Besides that, i can´´t wait to see if Cotto would have the possibility to fight like you mention with a Margarito atacking relentless and hitting him hard like he did with Cintron... There are some fighters that cannot make it against a specific fighter. It is just impossible to beat due to the style, strength etc. Cintron is not for margarito.
