First,I'd love to see a remake, maybe updated to present but the same music naturally.
I like that birth of the blues line.Is it white blues ? black blues ? New Orleans blues ? Kansas City blues ? What is it ?That's what makes Alfred Newman s blues parts so interesting.I love the guitar blues later in the movie.I call myself nevadasmith because of the music, not the western or the star.
YOU GOT IT BILLWINGFIELD. That transistionwe are cheated out of in this cut is just MAGNIFICENT LOOK FOR IT ELSE WHERE. billwing field your a man I know I would like to meet. You get it. The Harmonica-Guitar is like a historical representation of the birth of the blues Kudo's the ya
Newman had the genius to draw the viewer into a scene and make him or her care about the characters. And the main title music always created a grand anticipation. In this clip I love the transition to harmonica and guitar after all of the tutti grandeur. He did this in How the West Was Won in some scenes. The sadness of the harmonica is so poignant. The scene later in the movie when McQueen and Keith part ways brings back this harmonica statement of the main theme.
@tripsadelica...Totally agree, top of his profession as Hugo Friedhoffer, Elmer Bernstein and Dimitri Tiomkin, some music makes an ordinary film, these composers had style and class
Music for the movies these days is nothing like this. Present-day movie music seems to be written by dummies with a synthesiser, not by masters like Newman. Thank God Williams is still alive but, alas, many others have gone off to the great auditorium in the sky.
