  • This is so sad. I feel bad for Elise. I'm sure there are so many atheists who have to deal with the emotional ramifications of their family members knowing they are atheists. People can be so hurtful even towards those they are supposed to love.

  • Fantastic! A mormon ad to preface this podcast; "I believe that [a leprechaun] did something for me." -Pastor

  • lol your ads are "...and I'm a mormon" ads.

  • @FayraStudios "oh don't you dare blame religion for these sins" its in the bible , be honest to yourself, seek the truth and read the old testament. If god doesnt order all the atrocities mentioned by all us athiests then you have a valid point, however if god in the old testament does order all these horrific acts then you have no arguement to stand on.

  • Lol, there's an ad for a Christian prayer service next to this video.

Wait, that's actually a good idea. People pay me, I do nothing, it's the same effect.

  • @ 16:10> "moral dilemma / conflict of values" >> not only a great point, but well put; also, hearing the other guests contemplating exit strategies, the saying "don't cut what you can untie" comes to mind... best wishes to them in their struggles...

  • This is actually one of teh saddest things I've ever heard. Ministers preachign without belief? Fractured hearts and conflicted minds? This is not what God intended; especially from those He wants to lead His people. Scoff all you want.

  • I am interested also in those people who go into the clergy as atheists. I have known some who believe that churches provide important social functions, even though they didn't themselves believe in a deity. They enjoyed the social work, the counseling, and assisting people who really do think they couldn't be good if they didn't have the fear of an imaginary being able to see them all the time.

  • Jesus tells us to do the opposite of evil; this is how we know the difference between the Bible and false religions. A person who is 'open' to understanding, will understand the word of God (since they are looking to be good and not evil). A person who is 'closed' can't learn more than what they already know, and are content with living the way they want to, regardless if it's evil. These people usually are the 'cynical' ones. However, we can pray for these people, to turn to good and turn..

  • @ItsSoMe2011 ...away from evil!! There is nothing impossible for God! And God can remove their 'stony' hearts, and replace them with hearts of 'flesh', as explained in the Bible. God also says, "Evil men don't seek justice; but those who seek the Lord, understand all." (Proverbs 28:5)

  • Gee, since the Bible says it... it MUST be true. Never thought of that, thanks for the tip!

  • When people are with God, they will naturally understand the Word of God! Holy Spirit is here to guide us on earth, so all we need to do is seek for Him! ;') BLESSED IS OUR LORD! Put away evil things, and take up your cross and follow Jesus! He will show you the Holy way to live!! AMEN! Those who love good and seek justice, follow JESUS!!!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 God will show you the way, like He has with me! Just give Him a chance to work in your life!!! He WILL change your heart, and remove you from this deceitful world. Don't be in the hands of the devil, but in the hands of Jesus ;') He will help you and lead you to holiness....all you need is the desire to be good. If you do not have this desire, then I pray with all my heart you will, in Jesus name!!! AMEN! Peace to all of you, God bless!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Replace jesus and god with the names of any other gods or deitys and people will tell you the exact same their about their deity of choice, its just as unconvincing with them as it is when a christian says it

  • The only bible I follow is the Holy Bible - this is the true word of God. We are all sinners, me as well. We ALL need the guidance from God, because He created us, therefore, He knows what's best for us. Just like with an inventor and his invention; the inventor knows what to be done with the invention, not the other way around. We are not God, so we need to NOT see ourselves as 'god'. We need to obey to His Holy word, to live a pure life!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Which one is the HOLY one? Which ones are not holy? Your lack of knowledge is massive.

  • @YahwehNoweh No, I learn my wisdom form God, not myself. The 'Holy' Bible i right, (why it is called Holy and the rest are not). Jesus is our Saviour!! Jesus teaches love! The Holy Bible teaches us NOT to kill or hate, regardless if you are an unbeliever. We have no right to judge, only God can judge! This is why the Holy Bible is the truth! There is no confusion with what Jesus commands us to do.

  • If a person does not know the difference between good and evil, they are deceiving themselves. The Holy Bible tells us what is wrong and what's right. A person might think 'killing' another is right, but it doesn't make this the 'truth'. God tells us the truth. What we need to know, and our purpose here on earth! We were created to follow and serve Him, since we are His creations! He is not telling us to do evil, so we know He is a good God. We need to read the 'Holy Bible'!!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 No! YOU need to read your chosen bible (BTW which bibles DONT you believe in). I know what many bibles say. Your bible clearly says people like you are called "evildoers" by yahweh. Do you continue to make mistakes in life? If so why are you trying to stop others mistakes when you cant stop yourself from making them??? That is EVIL. Think about that. Do you really think others should listen to you when you dont listen to yourself? Do you really claim to always know good vs evil?

  • Lol.I have an ad next to this video with the message "god can help you change your life".It must be a sign from Yahweh! O.o

  • atheists you may keep on talking because as they say "sticks and stone may break my bones but words can never hurt me"

saying that god doesn't exist doesn't make him disappear

and if your depending on absence of proof to back up your saying then, give me proof that god doesn't exist then i will believe you

  • @FayraStudios *sighs* ever read harry potter? nah, you prolly haven't. You're a christian. You have what I like to call a "Lovegood Complex." You believe in stuff even though there's never been proof, even though people try to prove it all the time and have never done it. It's on YOUR side of the court to prove, ours' to disprove your proofs.

  • @garulia17 no if you even had the brains to read what i said i said if you are going to use absence of proof as a proof of absence well then give me your proof my proof is simple and to me and many others out there in this world it is faith and the books our lord sent us

  • @FayraStudios the books...written and copied by man, right? I'm using the laws of policy debate. your the affirmative. everyone else is the negative. They either have to prove something else or disprove you to win. We haven't had the proof to disprove, so therefore we can't. Also, just because a lot of people believe in something, doesn't make it true. The crusaders (biggest massacre) thought they were righteous and there were a lot of them. I'm honestly not trying to be mean here

  • @FayraStudios #1 LOL saying yahweh DOES exist doesnt make that supposed god appear.

#2 Here is 1 proof (of many) that yahweh doesnt exist. It is impossible to be "all powerful". Need more explanation (I thot so). An all powerful being can do anything, right? So then yahweh could create a rock to big for it to move. But if it cant move the rock it just created, it is not all powerful. So, your supposed god CANNOT exist. And just saying it does doesnt make it pop into existence. Use your brain!!!!

  • @YahwehNoweh ok 1 who the hell are you? to say god doesn't exist the majority of the world believes in the all mighty, and the world is built on religion and the proof you gave doesn't prove anything you're just trying to confuse me by creating a paradox

  • @FayraStudios Wow, you are deluded about more than invisible beings.

    1) Who the hell am I? I am the creator of the universe.

    2) Who the hell are you?

    3) The world isnt built on religion,Islamic countries are

    4) The majority of the world doesnt believe in yahweh. Making up statistics doesnt make them so either.

    5) I am not trying to confuse you with a paradox. the supposed god you believe in creates a paradox and so cant exist. Use you brain

    6) I never said there were not gods. Use you brain

  • @FayraStudios

How do you know that the gods of the Hindu faith don't exist?

  • @493950 my belief says they don't.

  • @FayraStudios

And they're beliefs say that your god doesn't exist as well.

  • @493950 alright. I don't mind that the same as they don't mind me not believing in they're gods. you see us believers and religious people we actually have manners and respect and are well raised enough to not criticize each-other. that's what separates us from your kind

  • @FayraStudios

    Hey, you're a troll.

Also, your sentence is a contradiction.

  • @493950 no I'm no troll, and my sentence is not a contradiction because as I clearly said I respect a BELIEVER'S belief not an atheist's you want to know why? because honestly I don't think you people are the same species as me I don't think you may breathe my air. because if you just don't believe in god ok... who am I to tell you what to think but instead of just believing and respecting our beliefs you call us ignorant and crazy and make fun of our beliefs

  • @FayraStudios To respect your beliefs is the same as respecting someone who believes in fairies and tries to get their country to bae laws around faries and teach about them to impressionable gullible children.

  • @nn101198 wow your comment is just another plain example of what i said

  • @FayraStudios Why are we not the same species? Unless you feel like you belong to ahumanoid specis, homo ignoramus, who function with logical reasoning capabilities.

And to believe in a Santa Claus-esque figure cannot be compatible with sanity and knowledge.

  • @nn101198 you people think your logical while your the ones who are delusional, religion have been around for thousands of years and is too real for you to deny.

we are completely sane human beings who have reached a point of realization which is that we just couldn't exist on our own we cannot exist on our own so there must have been a higher level being a god that created everything around us. you actually think the entire universe was created from a single atoms explosion?

  • @FayraStudios You think that you're sane so you believe in a magic sky fairy?

And you support deism, an understandable position. Not theism. That's stupidity.

Slavery, homophobia, sexism and racism were around for thousands of years, that is not an argument in favor of them. Islam and Christianity were both around for thousands of years and have the same amount of evidence for each other.

And I don't know how the universe was created. But God requires a creator anyway so it solves nothing.

  • @nn101198 oh don't you dare blame religion for these sins and you are just a typical atheist who makes fun of his opponent to prove his point and no God does not require a creator he is creation itself he is existence itself. and not you or any of your other fellow lesser human form atheists are in any sort of position to change that now good bye *you don't deserve a sir!*

  • @FayraStudios You believe that a perfect God wrote an imperfect book that supports genocide, sexism, racism, homophobia and slavery. It's in the Bible don't deny it. And if the universe requires a creator then so does God because if God doesn't need a creator the same logic applies to the universe. And I can't change your delusions so why would I try?

You call a rational human being a lesser life-form for some reason and then you accuse me of ridiculing someone who believes in talking snakes.

  • @FayraStudios Saying that god does exist doesn't make him appear. Christians are the ones asserting a positive claim, therefore they have the burden of proof, we don't need to disprove god, you need to prove him. If i tell you there is a unicorn living in my closet, its not your burden to disprove it, things aren't correct until proven wrong, the burden of proof is on the people asserting the positive claim

  • I am an agnostic atheist. I am pro contraception but ...abortion is a SOCIAL issue. It is not a religious issue. The fact that Religion or Christianity has hijacked the moral viewpoint that killing viable unborn life is atrocious; not to mention that fact that they then speak out against contraception and plan B - again which I support. Killing is killing. Women should be in charge of their own bodies , BUT since we ARE KILLING LIFE some consideration must be taken for the unborn life.

  • Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father (God)!!!! Jesus is the Son of God. All other beliefs that are contrary to this are FALSE RELIGIONS. Christianity is so wonderful, you develop the 'real' knowledge of the real God, in the Holy Bible! (God's words) But it's no good being a 'phony Christian', and making up your own rules. A person MUST follow God's way, not twist it to suit them.

  • @ItsSoMe2011 this is an atheist channel now leave

  • @TheDrewManXD Many atheists comment on Christian videos - freedom of speech, it's a free country! And I have come here to help, not criticize. If I only cared about my own salvation, I wouldn't bother preaching to you all. But I do care. ;') God loves you, and Jesus saves!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Deceiver!!! There is a plank in your eye! Until you remove it dont try to take the splinter out of anyone else's. Read you bible. Obey it. If you would you would realize that by supposedly caring about us, you are damning yourself. You only preach cuz you have judged others in need of your help. JUDGE NOT...You will be damned if you continue to preach as you have with such profound ignorance

  • @YahwehNoweh You are not making sense. To 'care' is a good thing, and Jesus teaches us to love our neighbour, which I DO! How can I deceive you by telling you this? A person can't damn themselves if they care about other people, I don't know where your learning this - probably from this evil world where the devil lives. You need to find Jesus, He will show you the right emotions and feelings and things we should follow. This world is nasty in it's ways, and evil. Please, follow Jesus!.

  • @ItsSoMe2011 You decieve by telling me that you know what your supposed god wants. You say your supposed god loves me and that this supposed person jesus "saves". One of the bibles says clearly that "a person is justified by what he does". jesus does not save, its your "works" that save, you are supposed to know this, but you twist and interpret words, & act as if your interpretation is the only one. So you 1st deceive yourself then you deceive others. Fix yourself, NOT ME as your bible commands

  • @YahwehNoweh When a person is doing something wrong, a person of God must correct them into righteousness, and spread the gospel, saying 'God tells us different, a better way to act, not an evil way'. It is a Christian's duty to do this. If I see a person I love, is wasting their life away to his world, do you think I wouldn't want to spread the good news and tell them to follow Jesus; who is the life and the light? It isn't judgement. You are mixing 'caring' with 'judgement'.

  • @ItsSoMe2011 It is a christians duty to know what their supposed god wants and do it for "him"? Do you know your supposed gods will? Also you must do nothing wrong if you can spend your time "correcting" others. Correct yourself...THAT is your duty. Who told you it is your duty to correct others. That is NOT in any of the many bibles. A HUMAN told you that and you bought it, you have been deceived and now you deceive. I see you are wasting your life, which is why I am trying to help you.

  • @YahwehNoweh Please don't imitate me. This world is evil, and it means people who love this world, are wasting their life (because a world without God, is evil). So we have to make the choice to turn to God. I need to correct my ways to be more like Jesus, that your right. But, this doesn't mean I can't help my fellow friend along the way. Jesus is pure, so therefore, we can choose to live and follow Jesus! This world is evil.

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Dont flatter yourself. I'm not imitating you. If you read (& understand) your bible you will see that 'god' points to you as the evil one. You shout for the world to follow jesus but you dont. You are the most evil hypocrite of all. Im trying to help you not imitate you. Youre so lost you cannot yet help anyone. I follow jesus more than you, so why dont you listen to me? Stop preaching lies and start learning jesus's real meaning. Your misinterpretations are the evil you speak of

  • @ItsSoMe2011 If you dont believe me. Would you believe a Bishop? Listen to those who know more than you. You say you need to correct your ways but can still help others. Will you accept help to correct your ways? If you dont think Im offering you help, understand Im simply echoing the voice of Bishop Spong. Have you committed your life to jesus as much as a bishop? Listen to those who are smarter than you. If you dont believe I am one. Fine (but you are wrong). I love people - more than you can.

  • @YahwehNoweh A person still living of this world has forgotten love. God is love, but the further people are from God, the less love they have for others and themselves. This world teaches a lot of evil, and a lot is also subliminal (through signs that people might not notice, unless they follow the wisdom of God, they will 'see') Look around you. Almost everything you see has a connection to the devil. Increasing amount of computer games are violent, films and music are demonic...

  • @ItsSoMe2011 ...but unless a person wants to see, they will be stuck in the evil ways of the world, being lured by the devil's tricks. It's all a plan from the devil, and you may think this world is the be and end all; but it isn't. It is a battle against good and evil. We just need to choose our path. It's about realising, the world has nothing good to offer, nothing holy. If you want to change, Jesus is here to help you. Just accept, be humble, and see the world for what it really is!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Come Back to the word. YahwehNoweh, actually makes some good points. You seem to have lost your way. It sounds like some misguided preacher was part of your past. Dont rely on preachers,.

  • @YahwehNoweh Even John the Baptist told Herod he was going against God in his adultery, and was angry with him because of it. He told him to repent, which is what I say to all of us, we need to repent and turn to the good ways, the ways of Jesus Christ again. This world is an evil place, people need to search for the light. Jesus will light up your life! Please, trust, and understand. I love you all, and I am telling you, there is no truth in the ways of the world. Love the Lord!He loves you!

  • @ItsSoMe2011 Again you cant see the plank in your eye. You claim not to be judging, then say "When a person is doing something wrong". You CANNOT know if someone is doing somehting wrong unless you have judged their actions. You are blind to your own wickedness. YOU MUST REPENT. You think you are righteous but you are the most wicked amongst us. You're like those in Matt 7:22 who ask yahweh "did we not do good works in your name" to whom he says 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

  • (c)..."Therefore tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'Return to me,' declares the Lord Almighty, 'and I will return to you,' says the Lord Almighty." (Zechariah 1:3) We must make a choice, that's the bottom line. You can't expect to see God's Glory in your life if you have rejected Him in the first place. Make a decision to choose to understand Him, get to know Him and His will and what He wants for us. The rewards will come to you then.

  • When a person 'accepts' the Lord into their life, you will be shown God's glory in your life. If you instantly reject, God won't work in your life. You have to be genuine, and to 'want' to reject all sin (evil) in your life. If you can't accept you do sin, the chances are, you will believe you are your own god. This is not the reality, but what 'you' believe in your mind. We have been created. God will turn to those who turn to Him....(c)

  • I can't find the clip he's talking about with Dan Barker at TED...

  • I think that when you're a child and you have parents who go to church every Sunday, you believe by default. But as you grow older, you HAVE to be able to come to the conclusion it's all bullshit, with the intelligence and information we have now as a human species. Because if you don't, you're simply retarded and should be put in to a mental institution, but that's just my personal opinion.

  • @member5738 What would you say is the main thing that makes someone retarded to believe in God?

  • All of your podcasts are great but this one was especially. Very hopeful and inspiring.

  • why can't i comment or post anymore on the facebook page? =O

  • I love how when Seth has a caller he just shuts up and listens unlike some other shows out there. I love the Atheist Experience but I find they interrupt the caller too much. Seth is just so respectful towards the callers. The best example in my opinion is the Grief Without God episode.

  • @LilDrummerBoy74 Well, I will say that this episode is not a particularly good example to point to when comparing to the AE caller interruptions because Dan Barker isn't really saying anything objectionable. It is pointless for the hosts of the AE to let idiots ramble on unchallenged for 20 minutes and shotgun blast out 500 claims which can't possibly all be addressed. You claim it's disrespectful, but a dialogue is just that. This show is different than the AE. It's apples to oranges.

  • You also hear these testimonies from some christians, that they once walked around as non-believers, or even atheists, but in all secrecy they once in a while prayed to someone up there, like: "God, if you are there, let me meet the real you, not all this phony religious stuff!" That is what I did. And I gave my life to Jesus half a year after that. Maybe not so different, believers and non-believers.

  • @MindTheHeart anbody who believes there's "someone up there", and that someone has all the attributes of our understand of a "god", isn't an atheist... The whole concept defies the meaning of the word itself.

some people may not care about a deity... that doesn't necessarily mean they're atheists...

  • I was born and raised Atheist. My 1st exposure was my dad's girlfriend, Sherry. She forced me to go to Sunday School with her 2 boys. I hated it with a passion. It all sounded like the Fairy Tales my dad would read at bedtime, but with a lot more "Do what we say or burn for eternity." I grew up thinking religious people needed mental help. On the way to daycare, when I was 2/3, we drove by a church and I would point and laugh at the little man on a stick out front.

  • @TheCrimsonification When I was young, I thought when people said "JESUS CHRIST!" they were saying "HOLY SHIT!" I was 5 when I 1st stepped into a church. It was disgusting to me. I hated it. Still do. Religion has done nothing but destroy the natural progress of humanity. I think it was created to hold back the sheeple by holding back the truth. Knowledge is power and the Illuminati don't want to share.

  • I had a personal relationship with god. I got tired of trying to figure out if the small voice was me or god. Ah wishful thinking I dont miss it at all.

  • I apologise Lynn I forgot your name when I was posting my comment.

  • My Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus periods led to awareness of my atheism at age 12. Religion so pervaded my environment, though, that by 18 I felt I had misunderstood Christianity and it must be just a body of metaphor. I soon learned that Christians actually accept their myth for reality. The only mystery religion now poses is why so many waste time and thought over patent nonsense--but thanks to all you antitheists waging this long war against religious insanity.

  • The lyrics I like most, about Christains, are by The Devil Makes Three: Yes, I guess I see They ain't do nothing, here, but living off of you and me, well Yes, I guess I know There ain't no place left on this earth that you can call your own, and Yes, I hope I see The day we all wake up and get up off our bended knees, well Hallelujah! Let it all just burn Cause they ain't the type for listen'n And they sure ain't never gunna learn
  • You really need to get Penn & Teller on the show!!

  • I must say that if I knew of any priest/pastor who became a non-believer, I would have additional respect for that person. The strength of their personality to overcome their confinement in their profession is against so many odds. They have so many manacles holding them to their faith and to break those manacles is an impressive feat of reason.

  • Its nice to have a comforting add on the side of the video. "Get your own 'The church Jesus built' "

  • Comment removed

  • I'm "Lynn" who Seth interviewed on the show. I can assure you, if it weren't for the bills, I'd be out of there. I'm hoping that by June this year I can walk away. Even though I no longer believe, I still do my job. I care for the people when they are sick or in need; I preach the beliefs that they hold and lead the church according to their religious structure. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I am being faithful to the vow I made to care for the church.

  • @AgnosticPastor Lynn, thanks of coming on the show to tell your story. Your posts here make me wonder how much service to people drew you into your career, and if possibly folks like you could help lead to the development of non-theistic alternatives to church, where local groups that meet to share, support each other, socialize, do good works, learn lessons of moral and ethical nature and about the world. There is a need for these things, just not for the religion part.

  • @AgnosticPastor I don't think you should feel guilty about continuing your "profession" despite your apostasy. There are plenty of people that hate their jobs but are forced to continue working that job. Religion is a fraud whether the pastor giving the service is a believer or not, but those listening from the pews are getting what they want either way.

  • Thanks for the interview! I enjoyed being on the show and chatting with you! Keep thinking! ~AP (aka Lynn)

  • @AgnosticPastor Wishing You all the best and good luck!

  • your voice is awesome.

  • Balance. Between your voice and theirs.

  • Interesting podcast ! thanks for sharing it with us

  • It's hard to believe that if atheists had community gatherings, and if one left to become christians...

That the atheists would email them hate..

Hell, it's hard for me to bleieve that a atheist family would disown a christian child..

  • I don't know waht to think when someone says "Don't make any rash.. unrational actions.. because they don't usually end well"

Because most of the time when I acted sort've rash, and arguablly unrational, it worked out in the end..

example- I no loner watned to associated with someone because they openly talked about theivery... I suppouse at first i started rational by discussing the theiver, but when she showed up at the door step, it wound up with me saying f off and slaming the door..

  • I'm going to create man and woman with original sin. Then I'm going to impregnate a woman with myself as her child, so that I can be born. Once alive, I will kill myself as a sacrifice to myself. To save you from the sin I originally condemned you to.

    - God

  • This fear of rejection seems to be a stronger in America than it is in any other western country.

In England, I became an atheist nearly 50 yrs ago. I never made a secret of it and I still have most of my friends I had then and I am still on good terms with my family, most of whom are still Christian.

for a country that claims to be the land of free speech, America seems to have a lot of intolerance for anyone doesn't conform to the mass thought.

  • Very good show, especially the callers. They all had great, as in significant, stories to tell.

And something that came up a number of times, church without religion. I like the idea of church, people meeting for moral/philosophical lessons and discussions, people that support each other, maybe sing, do good works for the community. Too bad about the deity stuff and the sick and twisted ethics.

  • Going to seminary is almost a sure way to make people become atheists! My brother did 4 years of seminary and is now the biggest atheist I know!

  • What America needs is a presidental candidate who is a non believing gay and black woman. With the current line up of candidates I believe this is the perfect timing!

  • "NEWS IN HEAVEN"

Doug, who raped and murdered his 12 year old victim received the holy spirit just before he was executed in prison. He is now reunited with his victim in heaven.

    The bible is evil.

  • @metalsusa1: Amen!

  • @Alineniz Yeah right.

  • Good show

  • If you think these people are deplorable for espousing beliefs they don't hold, help them find another way to keep the bills paid. Don't criticize the way someone else handles a situation you've never been in.

  • @lazyperfectionist1 if they are only doing it to pay the bills, that may be acceptable, but thats not the case, though lying to "pay the bills" as if thats the only way to, doesnt seem better than any other scam artist.

Dont criticise thieves because they are just trying to pay the bills.

Not that pastors are necessarily thieves, but its all the same, if i cant criticise somebodies choice to lie just because they have to pay bills.

  • @waltermh111 It may very well not be the only way for society overall, but for some people, being religious leaders is all they know how to do. Would you be willing to help a person in such a situation keep a roof over his or her head and those of his or her family while going back to school?

  • @waltermh111 My Brother-inLaw was one of these clergymen who lost his fath very early on. He still considered that he had a role to play.

He centred his ministry on the moral and social side of christianity and kept the theological side to a minimum.

Strangely enough, he was considered by most of his parishioners to be a very good vicar and they actually preferred him to many of the "bible-thumping" clergy.

If he was providing comfort and hope for people, who are we to judge?

  • Humans are Compulsively Tribal and Religion Hitch Hikes a Free Ride on that Nature!

  • @Pablo113 Also, Religion serves a "Death Denying" Function

  • Good episode.

I would encourage folks not to ponder too long. While you worry about supporting your family or what the neighbors would say, your time to do the right thing runs shorter and shorter. Your family and friends deserve to know the real you and you deserve the chance to become responsible for yourself and know what that really means.

    Show them how it's done.

  • This channels helps a lot. please do not stop.

  • Glad you used the lyrics I shared with you on your FB page! I think I may have gotten my wires crossed when crediting the song on your page, the lyricist is actually Nick Hornby, who is normally a best-selling novelist, and was tapped by Ben Folds to write lyrics to this album. Hornby is best known for the novels "High Fidelity" and "About a Boy," both best-sellers which were turned into movies. Not sure if copyright prevented you from playing, but you read it beautifully nonetheless! - David

  • ALBERT CAMUS - ABSURDISM.

  • Lol at the ad on the side "Read the Bible in a Year!" that's half the reason I became an atheist, because of all the bullshit in the bible.

  • @wolfy2033 Judging by your comment... sounds like you've read the bible in a year... that's more than most Christians read in their lives. Congratulations! you're holier than most Christians! ;)

  • Great show!

  • Here's an idea for another episode. How about one dedicated to people who were atheists all their life, their first exposure to religious ideals, why they rejected them at the time, and the interactions they have with theists in their lives.

  • @stickybug0 This'd actually be very interesting. The idea of growing up without having religious ideas implanted to begin with seems completely alien to me.

  • @stickybug0 Good luckfinding this person you speak of. Religion is taught to the young for a reason.

  • We had a case in Denmark with a pastor who came out as an atheist when he in an interview with a newspaper said the following: "God belongs in the past. He is actually so old fashioned that I am baffled by modern people believing in his existence. I am thoroughly fed up with empty words about miracles and eternal life."

What's most remarkable is that his congregation stood by him during the shitstorm from bishops and others. But this is Denmark, and christianity is pretty watered out here ;-)

  • i was raised mormon, there might be bishops that are atheist but cant leave because of family and stuff, but i havent even thought of the higher-ups, could the prophet be an atheist?...

my mind has been blown O_O

  • This is no different than a cop beating up someone or spraying a kid in the face with a dangerous chemical for exercising free speech and saying, "It's just my job."

It's no different than a soldier voluntarily joining an illegal invasion and torturing and murdering an innocent people and then saying, "It was my job."

Religion is extremely hurtful, destroying countless lives. It is immoral to teach it at ALL.

Get out, take 2 minimum wage jobs & THEN make plans.

    There are no excuses.

  • @t4705mb6 I agree to an extent but the reality probably is that if it wasn't these guys it would be someone else. I don't think it's fair as much as it's tempting for us atheists to judge people in those situations, unless of course you've been in the same situation yourself.

  • @mrgejwaites I have. I worked for a "fortune 250" corporation in an "upper management" position in environmental services for nearly 2 decades. They always had a problem at the "big" meetings with me because I always brought up moral questions about their business practices.

When I was ORDERED to release poisons from our factories into municipal water supplies, I QUIT! I walked out - on the spot.

Not only that but, I reported it. The whole thing has led me through hell.

  • Thanks so much for doing this show!

  • Why wasn't Edward Tarte on your show? An X Catholic priest with an atheist youtube channel. I guess he didn't know.

  • edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte edwardtarte

... would have been perfect for this show.

  • @fegolem love that dude!

  • Not only pastors, but us bastards, who have "believer" family members, as well as our political candidates, have a hard time "coming out" as god atheists

  • We all lie, but we all don't make money off our lies.

  • I DONT BELIEVE ANYMORE IS THE REAL AWAKENING !

  • as an atheists I still lets say pray however its a placebo to praying to my own being as to say enlighten me to heal my inner being only ! no god needed ! lol

  • ah jesus oh well guess his speedy exit from the cross shows alot ! guess he had to go lol didnt have the time to stick around an show those romans ! lol

  • I really regret missing this podcast, I really wanted to hug a lot of the callers. :(

  • @Mimi2591 Thank You! I'm "Lynn" who was interviewed on the show. Your compassion means a lot during this very difficult time.

  • @AgnosticPastor Good luck Lynn. :)

  • i really think ironic christians cant accept abortions when if they really believed in a god that this god couldnt save the unborn an wisk them into their fake heaven as saved lol wat a bunch of crap religion !

  • the dislikes r the fcktards still living n fantasyland lol

  • I know that there are non-believing pastors in my community. Due to professional confidentiality, I don't know who they are, but I have my suspicions about one.

  • Thanks TTA, best one in ages, made me reconsider my gut reaction to atheist clergy, wife bought me "Godless" for X-mas, time I got around to reading it. I have a strong opinion on NAP too, really looking forward to next podcast, thank you for all your hard work!

  • Somebody start a church, the church of Secular saints.

  • Our Pasta, Which art on the plate, Hallowed be thy meatballs or vegetarian alternative. Thy will be eaten, (It will be good), At home as it is in the restaurant. Give us this day our choice of bread, Forgive us our whining, As we forgive those who whine against us. Lead us not to dogmatic traditions, But deliver us from heartburn, ulcers, & gas. For thine is the Noodle, the Sauce, and the Meatballs or vegetarian alternative. RA-men.

  • @Scyntist Vegetarian alternative? Blasphemer!!

  • @theBartone9119 No true believer would EVER doubt the Vegetarian Alternative! It is you who is a blasphemer!!!!

  • @Scyntist I'm a meatball orthodox pastafarian and I find your liberal openness to vegetarianism an insult to the faith! You're just opening the flood gates of evil lettuce and radish!

  • @grimordwow Oh, really now? I think a Crusade is in order. HAVE AT THEE!

  • @Scyntist "Only thhe fool has said in his heart 'there is no meatball'!"

  • @Scyntist You have introduced me to a new variety of awesome.

  • @Scyntist FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER FTW! Ramen *bows head*

  • This discussion reminds me of the Bill Maher movie Religilous where he interviews the Catholic Preist in Rome and the Preist comes out and says ya all the stories in the Bible are just stories and not true and they all know it. Religion is a multi billion dollar industry and it aint going away as long as the sheep keep coming.

  • Thanks for the very interesting podcast. Where I live people do not really care that much about religion, so it's not that big of a deal for me but I can still understand that some people do really have to go through a lot of trouble when "coming out" as atheists. The more I admire them for doing it anyways. And the example of the son being happy that the dad is no atheist gives hope.

  • "area code 352 - "Larry" - "People are afraid of you if you have a degree in 'bible' or 'theology', I've found..." Not surprising, considering how out-of-touch with reality so many fundamentalist Christians are, nowadays. Hiring someone with a degree in 'bible' might mean hiring someone who doesn't even understand the science behind rainbows [as the preacher's daughter stated] - OR someone who will spend their 'working' hiours proselytising instead - and I've seen THAT happen more than once...

  • Id just like to say im tired of hearing this dichotomy of atheism and agnosticism. People really need to stop doing that. The two terms are NOT mutually exclusive. Being an agnostic is not a view point, it is an admission that one cannot or does not know. That is all it is. I myself, am an agnostic atheist.

  • Excellent broadcast! But - when people talk about "so-and-so" isn't a "believer" anymore, they need to use pseudonyms - never use the person's 'real' name, not even nick-names... Premature "outing" would be a MAJOR problem for these people...

  • ( . )( . )

  • The references to Recovering from Religion and AA's journey to sobriety is profoundly understated.

  • Seth, what is your impression of someone such as John Shelby Spong?

  • Can some one tell me when The Thinking Atheist airs?

  • @uewVumopVapIsVdn Tuesday evenings 6pm U.S. Central on BlogTalkRadio.

  • another great one. Dammit one of these days Im gonna catch it live and call in:) THe last two would been perfect for me

  • Really well produced show - great voice and audio quality- if you don't mind me asking, what is your setup in terms of software used, and hardware? Thanks for the upload.

  • As for your shows being about ex-believers, I think that is more important than ANY other content. I am very alone and although this show is not enough, it does help.

  • Sometimes I wish I could put the genie back in the bottle because the battle never ends and there's always one more person I need to tell. When I tell, I'm usually rejected.

I can empathize with these pastors. Not only will they taste rejection on so many levels, they will also lose their livelihood. In many ways it's a no-win situation.

  • Seth, keep the deconversion stories coming. Very interesting stuff and uplifting that people are thinking and questioning...and this is coming from a person who was pretty much always an agnostic/atheist at heart.

  • HUGE HUGS to Elise.

Hearing her story made me tear up. We are here for you, girl.
