@naomijful Hydro Quebec stepped away for reasons other than the actual worth of NB Power. It just shows how gullible you are, naomijful, that you believe the reason Charest gave to the media. HQ stepped away from the deal because they could not legally buy the assets. Legally, and yes, I researched this as well, if they signed the deal, we could just take back the assets at any time. Its called expropriation.
If you are going to respond, get your facts straight first.
Since Quebec Hydro just stepped away from the deal because the asset value didn't equal cost (3.2 billion), I'm thinking this student should stay in school for a few more years (or at least pay attention instead of making youtube videos). Big difference between 47 Billion and 3.2 Billion and they still walked away ...
@knubldr As per info in the video, NB Power cannot use the $700 million to pay off the debt because Graham's government is siphoning $420 million per year for things like their new "severance package" What a freaking joke!
Simple and well put, but my questions to all you NBer's is what are we going to do to stop this?? Obviously the big protest in Fredericton didn't work. We need much bigger, every city and town all at once.. We have to send a message!!
GREAT presentation! Have also heard someone compare selling NBP to a dairy farmer selling all his cows to someone else and the farmer paying this someone for the farmer to still milk them.
Good job . One comment I read was you were just a 4th year University student so you don't know all the facts. Well it doesn't take an intlectual to understand that you don't sell your assets to pay off your debts so that you are left out in the cold.
Profitable Solution, why don't we in New Brunswick buy NB power, at 800 thousand population we can purchase NB Power at about $5000.00 each, and the banks shou;ld lend us all because of the huge profit potential.
There has to be a huge protest organized...and it should have happened months ago. The Graham government may be gone after the next election, but still the damage will be done already.
"I have a Plan... I don't want to help Graham.." You're in 4th Yeah Uni. ...Not sure you have all of NB's Books, the resources as the government does and the expertise to come up with such a thing. You are in 4th Year University and state that you have a "Top Secret" plan. "I don't want to give it away to Graham" This is a very childish thing to say... Why Not showing it and prove a point?
If you have ever followed politics, you will know that as soon as one person comes up with a plan liked by the people, every party jumps on board and claims it as their own.
There are better ways of reducing/removing NBPs debt than selling it. As a 4th year business student, (and former CEO) I formulated a feasilble plan. I challenge Graham to do better.
I will not publicize my idea and have Graham steal it. If this is the best he has, let him lose the next election. He's not qualified.
@TheRealBronweN You have NO political Background! What will you do.. ?! Wait until March 31st to show your "007 Top Secret" plan? The election are well beyond this deal. You are simply taking advantage of this event to make yourself look "Powerful".
You're likely on Welfare and don't understand what she went trough that Degree. I do, I did the same! Our Gvt is populated with uneducated incompetents. This is how they ended up in this mess....
Now were talking....Graham needs to be fully investigated FULLY..These types of politicians have been raping the working class and underpriveledged for decades...Look at the Millions Sheldon Lee spent building the roads in Bonny River....Sure they needed new roads but WOW what an overkill.....He lived there.
Good work. I'd like to have the time and business acumen to assess the figures, but a couple of months ago, the auditor general stated that fees and profits rendered over 500 million in 5 years to the government. That was enough for me to consider the deal a joke (I believe it equaled the 'savings' in power rates).
One question, how do we extricate ourselves from the 'power profit instead of taxes' accounting? We can't pay off the power debt without losing a lot of general revenue.
The profits that the AG refers to are after such lines in the financial statements as:
Dividend Payment
Payment to Government in lieu of taxes
Finance Charge to Electric Finance, etc.
These are all "legal" and it is not the AG's job to report where they are going, but they all go to the same place.
The AG's assessment is correct, but there is a whole lot more money going to the government from NBP through sneaky routes that we are not being told about. This money will be gone if NBP is sold.
There are ways for NBP to increase profits without selling off to Hydro Quebec. I have developed a plan, which is fine for me to say, but I have no proof of that without posting the details.
I don't plan to reveal my plan online. I don't want to give it away to Graham. He doesn't deserve my help. He deserves to crash and burn in the next election.
I am counting on the court challenges to block the sale, and I will reveal my plan for NBP once Graham has been deposed.
Without this deal, in order for NB Power to remain stable and profitable, it projected an increase of about 15% in the next 5 years, How would the industries react to such a thing?
Actually... One more question, Because NB relies on non-reusable energies (natural gas, oil, etc.) Once NBP's "cheap" deal with the Venezuela comes to an end, Do you expect the rates to escalade?
Alright... Since you seem to know a lot.. Let me ask you some questions.. (In order to have better chance reaching you, I will post this message in Both Part 1 and 2, Just answer one or the other)
You have mentioned NB Power being a healthy company, How can you associate the fact that the rates have increased by 27% in the past 7 years?
You have been stating NB Power's value over the next 50 years, How is this relevant since NBP Profits could decrease or increase?
