@Kaffyboy He was also a vital part of turning them into an embarassment and Brian should have fired him after"Pet Sounds"the Wilsons and Al Jardine could of sung those leads and they still would have been hits because they all had great voices and the songs were brilliant.Mike IMO was the weakest member of the group and to qoute Chuck Negeron of Three Dog Night: Mike Love should thank Brian Wilson every day for giving him a job that in my opinion,no one else would have hired him to do.
@johnboymac2000 well, that's fair enough, but I have always liked Mike. My favourite Beach Boy would definitely be Carl Wilson though. I visited his grave whilst in the States a few years ago. I have a vid of my visit here on youtube. His headstone reads 'The Voice of an Angel'. How appropriate?!
This is by far the best treatment of the Beach Boys story...much better than the 1990 TV movie. It's hard to cast a movie like this with actors who closely resemble the real people. Matt Letscher and Nick Stabile totally sold me on Mike Love and Dennis Wilson. Letscher even got Love's voice inflections down. And Kevin Dunn nailed Murray Wilson, even using some of his actual dialogue from recording sessions. I agree about the scene where Brian comes up with 'Surfer Girl'....chills.
I hate how dennis was treated by his dad and brothers. No wonder his true talent wasnt discovered till the end. Dennis was the heart of the group i.m.o.!
I remember watching this when I started highschool and I thought highschool would be like this: hanging out and simple. Wish I was around during this era.
@Karateworm Its hard to find actors that look and sound like the real people there are persons that look like elvis and charles bronson walking but didnt study acting they cant waste $28 million although there are people that learn on the job .
@TheBeachboys4ever i grew up in the 60s....i got spankings, but my dad never hit me over the head with a 2 by 4...he was an abusive prick who is rotting in hell
next up...the fucking prick mike love....the anti christ
@AcciaMunk Genius? You can see in this movie that Murry was nothing short of manipulative, and a Pharisee-ical perfectionist. He was abusive to his own kids, physically and mentally. That's one reason the boys turned to drugs, Dennis and Brian turned to 'the wrong people', etc... You'll see the long-term effects in Part 2 of this miniseries, but this stuff goes on in real life, and it's very sad.
little did they know what they would be doing 50-51 years from that day.
