i don't think it's 'too fast.' it's faster than the record, yeah, but i kind of like the tempo. tom's such a great guitarist, though. really inspires me to keep playing.
I saw them in Cleveland on that tour. It was Peters first solo tour. I hated Marquee Moon when I heard it on the college station before the concert. Then I went to that concert and was blown away. I miss Television!
I've never heard this song before, or listened to this band. However, I must say, their instrumental elements of the song is very well constructed. The only thing that sets me off is the lead singer's voice. It is completely off beat with the music, and makes me wonder 'Why did they ruin such good instrumentals with lyrics to this song?'
Not sure what you mean. It's syncopated on the off beat, but it's not a mistake. It threw me when I first heard and I couldn't figure out what they were doing. That's just the kind of stuff Television did that nobody else was.
Verlaine's not a classically strong vocalist, but I find him pretty expressive in the NY 70's way. And he's surely got about the most interesting, unexpected solos from here to Bill Frissell
Amazingly inspired solo. Very cool stuff. I usually prefer the stuff when Richard Lloyd is Co-Lead, but this is pretty friggin' nice. Thanks, psssyche.
Apparently, in the late 1970's, U2's Edge was significantly influenced by Television's/Tom Verlaine's guitar playing style/ethos, of playing what you feel, any way like, no rules, except 'does it communicate what you want'.
So sad that the song is cut off at the best part!

Transcendent! Marquee Moon has better build and climax than Bolero. Verlaine is triumphant virtuoso. Never tire of this song.

He obviously inspired Rich Gilbert, a gift to anybody that loves guitar playing. It's a sure thing HSR was listening to this.

This guy changed my approach to the guitar! he is great, his playing is amazing, his lyrics are brilliant. Period.

i understand anyone who might be out off by tom's crummy vocals, but there's no denying that he's an amazing guitarist.

Verlaine's a totally undervalued guitarist. He has his own signature sound: tinny, manic, sweet & heavy on the vibrato...

Yeah, this is an amazing song, but they are playing this way too fast.

You can see how he influenced jeff buckley and why he wanted him to produce his last album, even if the result was slightly disapointing
