I'm happy to know you are one of the three chosen as finalists... I enjoyed your choreography and am sure your new piece will be wonderful. Good luck!
Just saw this on the local news tonight. Well-deserved being in the top 3. You are an incredible choreographer! Good luck (or break one of your dancer's legs)! Can't wait to see more from you.
Though the dancers were strong I thought the choreography was weak in the first excerpt. However I love Edward Gorey, and was intrigued by the second excerpt. There is something there.
Heather I love all your choreography - I don't know how you could even choose which pieces to show?! I love seeing THE MEN - such a refreshing change from so many pieces in this competition.
After watching so many of these entries, it's refreshing to see something so polished, professional, and engaging all at the same time. The skill level is far above the bulk of the competition, and the sheer accessibility of both works somehow manages not to compromise the artistic integrity in the slightest.
The dancers in the first clip are indeed wonderful...the solos on display are very similar to one another and thus, not very memorable. You remember seeing a nice dancer but not much about the steps.
Agreed - Music, Costumes, Choreography and DANCERS are amazing!!!
I wonder how many of us are hooked and drawn in by the first dance simply because for a change we're seeing 3 mostly naked "male" dancers and 1 female dancer on the stage?!?!
So I have found myself watching about thirty seconds of some of the related ballet nouveau clips and I keep getting bored and clicking on something else.
i was totally hooked on this one within the first 3 seconds. so beautiful. and the many deaths of edward gorey?? that is AWESOME and very original, everything about it was perfect too...the costumes, the ambiance, it was just gorgeous. you are a very ingenuitive choreographer! good luck in the competition!
I find myself returning to view this clip again and again - can't seem to get enough of it. It's got that intangible something that's visible in every moment of movement and music. We use lots of different words to describe this quality, which happens in the best of every artistic creation. Today, "genius" is what comes to mind ...
Heather Maloy's choreography would be great from Ballet Nouveau- based on this video - a mix of cinematic contemporary Euro style ballet with an American edge.
I love the athleticism of Ms. Maloy's choreography and it was great to see such a beautiful mens' piece. I agree with an earlier post and would like to see the entire Gorey performance - the dark humor was tremendous and money could be made off the outtakes of early rehearsals. Well done.
I spent my first moments of this piece watching a dance and then felt pulled in by the subtle narrative. I was receiving the story seamlessly through the dancing. Brava!
this is all very beautiful. the choreographer seems to have a unique perspective, that can appeal to a lot of people, and still be incredibly innovative.
The beauty of precision, elegance, and sensuality is available in every movement of "The Men." It's a unique and inspired presentation of motion, music, and the male body. Maloy's second piece is equally surprising and delightful. With "Edward Gorey," she confirms that her choreography is strong in grace and style. Then she combines an irresistable playfulness with an eerie setting to tell a story. Her works are truly innovative and exciting. Both left me wanting more.
The concepts, images, shapes and conection to the choreography is amazing. I regret that I have not seen one of your productions. I will fix that. Thank you for bringing your talents, dreams and direction to Asheville
I liked her choice of modern music, and I felt that her innovative work conveyed the music well. She makes good use of the ballet vocabulary but beyond that, the work was captivating making me want to see more. There is an up to date feeling about this work that brings ballet into the 21st century.
Heather Maloy and Terpsicorps are North Carolina's best kept secrets... but not for long! Their reputation is spreading, and for obviously great reasons!
Having already had Ms. Maloy once for a teacher, I knew she was highly skilled as a teacher...however now I realize what an amazing choreographer she is as well. The cheoreography absolutely captivated me! I especially loved the calming eeriness of "Edward Gory". The music of both pieces provided a great canvas for Ms. Maloy's talents. Her choreography provides the viewer a story, and they can further interpret it. That's the beauty of these two pieces.
Maloy's work deserves to be as well-known and often-seen as Lynne Taylor-Corbett's or Christopher Bruce's pieces. They're certainly as original and accomplished; she's really succeeded in adding a new layer to the dialogue and tradition of contemporary ballet.
Heather Maloy is one of the hardest working and most dedicated people I know in this genre of dance. This extract performance of her and her troupe's work is a fitting testimony to the highest level of excelence that they have acheived.
Does anyone know the name of the MUSIC?

Those men are pretty impressive! Every other video in this competition seems to be mostly women dancing...it says a lot about a choreographer to:
1. have such good dancers
2. utilize men's physical capabilities so well
3. choose a pop song that is accessible to all members of the audience and make the dance look musical despite the genre of the music.
Finally, Edward Gorey? Who would've thought of that. WOW!!

Wow! Sexy, sensual, playful, haunting AND classy -- does it get any more contemporary?
