Gertie the Dinosaur is not ever considered the first cartoon since Winsor McCay, who made Gertie the Dinosaur made Little Nimo 8 years before and J. Stuart Blackton made Humorous Phases of Funny Faces in 1906. Gertie the Dinosaur is just the most famous.
