Tottenville is not only the southern tip of NYC, it's the southernmost point in NY state. Cool video. I've been riding the SIRT for 40+ years, and I've never been further south than Prince's Bay.
From the vid it looks like Tottenville would be a cool place for a railroad museum or just park private railroad cars while visiting NY. Right now they have to be kept at Sunnyside yard in Queens. On their layovers. The SIRT does have diesels. Diners and Palours from the national system to Tottenville! aaprco com
Hey,thanks for posting this! I was born there and lived my 1st 12 years there,I can still remember riding and can still hear in my mind the old brown trains with the glazes straw bench seats!
@077mank The ferry from NY was owned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad which also owned the Staten Island Rapid Transit. So they had a joint terminal at the north end of Staten Island. Which is still there. At one time long ago, there were thru sleeping and dining cars over the North Shore Line from St. George to Saint Louis Missouri over a thousand miles away. The B&O never ran trains to NY just Staten Island and Jersey City Terminal with connecting buses to NY with Ice air conditioning!
actually its no longer called staten island rapid transit its called the staten island railway now
